Informative tour

It was a great experience being in the underground city of Naples and learning the history behind the massive underground channels. Our guide was knowledgeable. However, she talked very fast. It was a big group so we felt the tour was rushed but understandable as there were other separate language groups running simultaneously.

We jumped off the train in Naples on our way to sorrento. Left our luggage in kibag drop and caught taxi for this 1.5 hr tour. Then straight back to the train station and off to sorrento. That was plenty of time for me in Naples. The place is chaotic, cramped. The tour was fine. We saw the underground aqua duct system and where WW II hiding took place during bombing. At the end we saw remnants underground of a theater which was cool. In 3 wks in Italy this area was my least favorite. No fault of the tour guide. Just is what it is. Starting the tour is a bit chaotic. So be prepared. They have everyone show up at the same time and there were hundreds of us. Then they take quite large groups down. So u wait on people to catch up a lot so that everyone can hear. And u cross paths with other very large groups underground. Like I said, a bit chaotic. They say they sell tickets at the gate but I was glad we bought here in advance bec there were so many people that the guy was telling others he’d have to see if they could go. I definitely would buy here if you want to do this.

Interesting but crowded

We went on a Saturday in August… and so did everyone else! It was quite chaotic getting in since they had Spanish, French, and English tours all scheduled for 2:00pm. It took 30 minutes for the English tour to get started. Our guide was good, though not always understandable. The best part was going through the long, dark, narrow tunnels. That was worth the tour.

We really enjoyed the tour and walking through the old underground aqueducts. The day we went, there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in Naples, and it appeared that the underground tour had more than an expected number of tours going through the underground passages. We found it interesting that tour guides appeared to be regularly giving each other dirty looks. Multiple tour guides speaking at once in echoey underground cisterns make it challenging to hear what your tour guide is saying. Our favorite part was walking sideways through the narrowest passages.

This was not a tour on our list. It was recommended to us by a local. We're so glad we took his advice! It was a wonderful experience and very cool to learn about the history of underground Naples! A bonus was that it was UNDERGROUND (nice to be out of the blazing sun for a couple of hours). Tour guide was great! Would have been helpful to have headphones, as it was hard to hear at some points.
