What To Expect

Your journey through mystical New Orleans’ begins in the French Quarter. Choose a morning or afternoon start time and meet your friendly local guide for a narrated walk through the French Quarter. Discover the architectural diversity of the area as you pass French and Spanish‐inspired buildings, gorgeous Creole townhouses, ‘Entresol’ houses and shotgun homes. Catch a glimpse of a cloistered courtyard and hear of its utilitarian function.

As you stroll, enjoy tales of New Orleans’ voodoo history and peek into a small shop that specializes in voodoo ritual materials such as herbs, oils, and amulets. Hear more from your guide about a largely misunderstood religion that still enjoys a formidable presence in New Orleans.

Take a short break at the old train station. Then walk through Louis Armstrong Park where you visit Congo Square, a historical site from the 1800s. Here, slaves and free people met on Sunday to openly trade, socialize, play music, dance and practice voodoo rituals.

Please note that this tour covers about one mile of the city, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

French Quarter

As you stroll through the streets of the French Quarter, learn about New Orleans history and the classic architecture around the city. Walk by shotgun homes — one of the most popular styles of Southern homes in the early 1860s — as well as Creole townhouses. Along the way, hear more about the city’s legendary voodoo practitioners such as Marie Laveau. Many New Orleans residents believe in the religion, and various ancient traditions and rituals are still observed.

Traveler Tips

Just keep in mind if you are not staying walking distance from your hotel to the Pick up point, then take a uber or cab.
There's a restroom stop after the graveyard so you can still enjoy the tour with a short break.
I reccomend doing the tour earlier in the day as there are fewer people around and it's easier to listen and enjoy.

Donna_G, Mar 2023
William the tour guide was awesome! Only downside was that a bunch of ppl showed up late and joined our tour, and it was too many ppl and slowed the tour down.
Great tour!

Slightly misleading as you don’t actually get to tour the cemetery. I was looking for more of a haunted history tour but this was moreso just a history tour. If you are a history buff this is for you.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Hi there-- we do state clearly that these tours cannot enter cemeteries so I do apologize for the confusion! We do offer a haunted tour (our ghost, voodoo, vampire and French Quarter tour may be a better fit for you!)
Rich with history!

Robert was an amazing tour guide through this peak at the city. He was very informative and very fun to listen to. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a background on NOLA and the amazing history and culture that founds this city.

Very informative & entertaining! Quite a bit of walking but well worth it. Covered areas and history not covered in other tours.
Voodoo, Congo Square, and French Quarter
Courtney_R, Nov 2022
First time in NOLA and took my mother on this tour. William was fascinating and engaging and knew a lot about the history of this town. The voodoo aspect of the tour was new to us and interesting to listen to. Don’t know how this compares to other tours as it’s the only one we did, but we enjoyed it and learned a lot. Didn’t delve into the supernatural, just stuck to facts and history. This tour would be suitable for children, family, solo. Thanks William!
Great tour

Voodoo & Graveyards
David_M, Nov 2022
Our guide William was a wealth of information. It’s impossible to see everything during a brief stay. William conveyed his love for New Orleans and genuine stories about people than shaped the history of New Orleans and beyond.

Taylor was very knowledgeable and made the experience memorable. He provided a lot of unique historical facts and clearly loves what he’s doing. One of the highlights of our trip.
James was a wonderful guide!
Jason_G, Oct 2022
James was a master storyteller. He shared wonderful and thoughtful commentary. We would highly recommend his tours to anyone visiting.
Misleading- Not Allowed Into Cemetery
Taryn_M, Oct 2022
Misleading tour, expected to go into cemetery 1 but was told immediately that we were not allowed in. We instead stood around empty beer bottles and trash across the street from it while the tour guide (who was very nice and engaging) pointed to the cemetery wall and told us to ‘imagine it’.
Disappointed
Jason_D, Oct 2022
For a cemetery tour, being told at the start that we weren’t allowed in the cemetery was quite a disappointment. While it was interesting, the rest of the tour wasn’t worth the price of admission.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Hi Jason-- we do state on our tour page and description that this tour doesn't enter any cemeteries. We do understand that frustration, as we love our cemeteries too!
Fantastic historical tour
Kristin_W, Oct 2022
William was so knowledgeable and fun. I love history and his information exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this tour!
