What To Expect

Meet the tour guide and group in SoHo to begin this walking tour of three of New York City’s most interesting neighborhoods—SoHo, Little Italy, and Chinatown.

Walking toward Greene Street, see the site of the Manhattan Well Murder, the first recorded homicide case in New York City and the first murder trial in American history to be fully documented by a court stenographer. This well is currently in the basement of the Manhattan Bistro restaurant. Needless to say, there are a lot of requests to see the basement here.

Much of SoHo includes the Cast Iron Historic District, which consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings, many incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. Look out for celebrities in this area as SoHo is a favorite spot for movie stars and models.

In Little Italy, listen to stories about mobsters like John Gotti, plus the troubles Italian immigrants faced when they first arrived here. The name Little Italy doesn’t really apply today. It was once known for its large population of Italians, but the neighborhood only has a few Italian stores and restaurants remaining now.

Just a few blocks away is Chinatown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Manhattan and home to one of the largest concentrations of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere. Chinatown provides a fascinating cultural experience.

Finally, visit the site of Five Points, a spot that gained international notoriety as a disease-ridden, crime-infested slum in the 1800s, before you end the tour in Columbus Park.

Get a chance to sample some of the local foods in these historic neighborhoods.

Educational, interesting and fun
Joanna_B, Sep 2023
It was most satisfying experience. Not the least because of our guide, Alex. She is a very gifted story teller and fun to be with. I liked the mixture of history, architecture and murder stories she presented us for. Interesting and most enjoyable.

The tour guide Joseph was very informative…enjoyed Soho, little Italy and Chinatown… I think next time I would do the tour in the fall when it is cooler.
Waste of time and money
Wendy_L, Aug 2023
Worst tour I’ve had. The tour guide was completely unaware of the group’s reaction to her kindergarten level information and humor. She was not well-informed about the buildings/neighborhoods other than the rote info she had memorized. She tried to bond with my daughter and me by talking about whether weed was legal in our state. What?? We actually walked away half-way through the tour because time is precious when we’re in New York and this tour was painful.
Excellent tour with more than excellent guide
Penny_S, Aug 2023
This was a great walking tour with just the right amount of information delivered at the right pace. It ran right on time (2-2:10 hours with a 25 min break). Jonathan was a superb guide. In a group of 20 people, he remembered everyone’s name and where they came from. He spoke both French and German and was engaging and personable.
Two Thumbs Up

Awesome tour of the historic district of NY city. SOHO can not be understated for its beauty and impeccable maintained state. Little Italy and Chinatown surreal to see and their historical significance can not be understated. Learned so much on this tour including stories of stuggle, transformation, corruption and murder within these districts. Highly recommend!

Our Granddaughter, 18 was focused in the moment with entertaining stories and getting a rich story of the past and present of this area for a top guide!
Best tour ever
Xavier_G, Jul 2023
I would like to rate it more than 5 stars if possible. This tour is a must if you want to have a real insight of these lovely neighbourhoods. I have had several tours during my stay in NY, and our tour guide (Verena), was by far the best one we encountered. She was fun, quite knowledgeable and provided a lot of information at every corner of the tour. Having the chance to walk these streets with someone that expert is priceless.
