What To Expect

Make your way to the Île de la Cité, where this tour begins, then cross the Seine River towards the Latin Quarter—this intellectual neighborhood is the home of the Sorbonne University, and it's the historic core of the Parisian Left Bank. Hear stories about the famous thinkers and writers who made their homes here, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, and discover some of the landmarks that recall Paris’ ancient history. You’ll stop by the Panthéon, Roman ruins, charming shops, and the Luxembourg Gardens, with a pause to browse stacks of books at the famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore.

Throughout the tour, the guide will share tales of the Latin Quarter’s colorful residents and vibrant history, and offer tips on the best places to check out after the tour concludes. This tour is limited to a small group of 10 people to ensure personal attention from the guide.

Latin Quarter

Meet your private guide on Ile de la Cité to begin your Latin Quarter walking tour at Notre-Dame Cathedral. Then walk across the Seine and onto the Left Bank, into the Parisian neighborhood that both Hemingway and Fitzgerald, among other writers, once called home. From ancient Roman ruins to the backdrops for Woody Allen’s film Midnight in Paris, this tour takes you through the centuries that have shaped this historical and cultural district. Learn about its intellectual roots at the Sorbonne, or discuss the famous thinkers buried under the Panthéon’s majestic dome. Pal around with today’s literati as you browse the stacks at Shakespeare and Company bookstore, and then discover Luxembourg Garden (Jardin du Luxembourg), the most beautiful park for finding a bench and reading a few chapters. There’s no shortage of fascinating stories that your guide shares with you as you stroll along the cobbled streets of the Latin Quarter, each more charming than the last.

Ile de la Cite

Once at the meeting point, you will start your tour by exploring ile de la cite, the oldest settlement in Paris. Once known as Lutetia, this former Roman city was the predecessor of present-day Paris, from which the city grew outwards.

Francois our guide provided us with the best possible experience.
Allison_H, Mar 2023
We absolutely loved this tour! Francois was so knowledgeable and excited about sharing the beautiful city with us. We also lucked out being the only people on our tour, so we got a real personal experience. Thanks to Francois for making our time in the Latin Quarter so wonderful.

Excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. We ventured into many areas. We’d recommend this for anyone.
Leaves a lot to be desired

While the guide was a lovely person, genuine and caring, the content of the tour was poor. Very little on offer. More on architecture than on history and a tad repetitive. For the price of the tour (which is expensive) unfortunately lacked depth on content and lacked historical content.
Our guide, Tamari was very informative, friendly and very willing to answer questions.

The stories our guide shared with us. She also showed us many pictures which helped us understand the history and significance of what she was sharing with us.

Best Walking Tour [Guide] Ever

Really, the most memorable experience was the one provided by Alex, our guide. His knowledge was impressive, but above all, he spoke to us as an experienced tour guide without ego or arrogance. He was super friendly and made it easy on us to ask lots of questions, even if we thought "this might be a stupid question"... He took us to all the sights promised on the itinerary and provided thoughtful and interesting information on the history, architecture and context behind what we were seeing. Highly recommend this tour, esp for Paris first-timers and esp if you get Alex as your guide.

Ferit was an incredible guide. We got lost and detoured because of an Olympic event, and Ferit went out of his way to call us, and help us eventually catch up to to the group. He was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.

Alex was a great tour guide. Having grown up in this area and with his history background was a bonus for giving us extra details about the area. I was looking for a tour that included the neighborhood feel, and was pleasantly surprised at all it offered. I would definitely recommend this tour and our tour guide. We walked for about 2.5 hours, so be ready to hit the road.
