What To Expect

Meet your guide at a central location in Paris and take the RER train together for the ride to Versailles. After picking up your bike a short distance from the Palace of Versailles, continue to a nearby village market to purchase baguettes, cheese, ham, wine and whatever else you’d like to feast on (own expense) for your picnic later on in the day.

The gardens and forests of Versailles span 1,976 acres (800 hectares), and are crisscrossed by a network of picturesque trails and tree-lined paths. Follow your guide and leave behind the pedestrians as you explore parts of the grounds that few venture out to, including Marie Antoinette's country-style hamlet, the Petit Trianon, and the Grand Trianon.

Arrive at a lovely secluded section of the Grand Canal that only those on bicycles can reach easily, and settle in for your picnic lunch. Get a kick out of the fact that you are sitting on the same spot where Louis XIV, XV, and XVI enjoyed their meals when they wished to admire their spectacular palace from the outside.

Then, cycle back toward the palace and spend time inside. With your provided audio-guide, learn about the lives of the French monarchy before their removal from power by the 1789 Revolution. See the King's State Apartments and Chapel, and walk through the unforgettable Hall of Mirrors, where the treaty ending WWI was signed.

Your Versailles bike tour ends with a return to Paris via RER train.

Traveler Tips

Palace is huge, so is park - get ready for a long day!
The day is rather strenuous, so I would recommend it for people who are able to walk and ride for several hours straight.

Rory was a wonderful guide. He learned all of our names and was very solicitous to each in the group. He was very knowledgeable on many subjects and brought a witty perspective.
Very pro tour.

Great tour with great weather. The guide was outstanding. Be prepared to do some exercise. These are not e-bikes. Versailles is mainly flat so it was not too bad. It was fun to get a picnic basket from the Versailles morning market. Great food and so yummy. End of the tour you do the main chateau on your own. I doubt I would have seen the full Versailles without this tour. They covered train tickets and Versailles admission and entry times. Very pro tour.
Biking, walking, enjoying Versailles

It was a beautiful day with an incredible guide. David made the whole trip an experience we will never forget. He is so knowledgeable and careful, especially on the bike lanes and paths. I would do many more trips with him as our guide. Versailles is a once in a lifetime experience!

Everything! The bike ride, history & picnic. Our tour guide was wonderful he had a great personality and was very knowledgeable.
Amazing experience. Great staff(thanks Martin!).
Holly_G, Oct 2022
Our guide was Martin and he was amazing. He was personable, knowledgeable, and professional. The day of our tour the Versailles palace workers went on strike so we could not actually go on the bike ride around the grounds. Martin maintained his cool and led us to a park where we picnicked for a few hours. As we were headed back to the bike store to return the bikes for the day, the palace gates opened and we were able to complete the ride on the palace grounds which was an amazing experience as we covered so much more ground than anyone could walking. We had to do a fairly quick ride because we lost time earlier in the day due to the workers’ strike, so I thought it was a real workout (not sure every tour would be like this since the palace strikes are super rare). Anyways this was an awesome experience despite all the curveballs and Martin managed it all so well.

Chai was an incredible guide providing both humor and fantastic insight into the history of Versailles. Riding bikes around both the city and the palace was nothing short of spectacular, the picnic on the palace grounds was perfect.
Amazing tour

Nick was an awesome guide. I really enjoyed the bike ride even though I haven’t been on a bike in years! Really lovely tour of parts of Versailles you usually don’t get to see. Met the group at a metro stop, journeyed together to Versailles, hopped on our bikes and took off for the market to choose our picnics. Then went off on our adventure. At the end of the tour the guide leaves you at the gates of Versailles and you’re able to explore at your leisure. All tickets are included! Worth every penny.
Versailles is well worth a trip!

Great Way to See the Grounds
Brian_B, Sep 2022
This was a great way to see the grounds. If you are lucky, Martin will be your guide. Don’t forget the tour of Versailles is on your own.
Fun learning experience in an amazing environment!

Rory, our guide, was funny and knowledgeable. His positive attitude made the experience light, while also ensuring we were all safe and satisfied with the tour.

We had a very nice time on the bike tour. Picnic was fab in the gardens and you get to see the palaces/grounds from a different perspective. Local market had amazing food and the recommended bakery was amazing!! One of the best. Our Tour guide engaged with everyone and was super easy to talk to. Would recommend.
Versailles bike tour was awesome

Our tour guide Martin was wonderful! We loved the bike tour and especially picnicking on the grounds.
Versailles by bike was a MAGICAL day!
Jenna_B, Sep 2022
This was our first trip to Versailles and our bike tour was one of my top 5 most memorable days ever! The tour was a great value and such a special way to see the grounds surrounding the palace. Our tour guide, Martín, was the absolute best! We felt so lucky to have him as our guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable, hilarious and caring, and he made our day so, so special. It was lovely to shop at the local markets and prepare our picnic lunch. All of the food in Paris is divine but the picnic lunch was our absolute favorite of the trip. Martín took us to his favorite spot to pick up the most delicious sandwiches. That, plus the wine and fresh fruit from the market made for a delicious meal. Though it is a long day, the biking was leisurely as was the walking. You do not need to be an expert cyclist to enjoy this day. I will be recommending this tour to everyone I know visiting Paris and Versailles. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Thank you, Martín, Viator and Fat Tire Tours for such a wonderful experience!
Great day in Versailles

Such a great way to get off the beaten path and see Versailles from a different (and less crowded) point of view! Highly recommend.
Beautiful Versailles.

Maddie was wonderful at explaining everything. She was very attentive to our safety and enjoyment. We had a great time with her.
Extremely Long Day and a lot of standing
Rick_M, Aug 2022
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun, which is good but trying to lead 21 people was too big a group. Yes, we biked but would have liked to ride longer. We stopped to listen to history information but stood far too long each time whether from bike guide or palace guide. Palace was way too hot to stand in a large group in small rooms long. History info was interesting but a shorter version would have been better. Needed about 20 more minutes to buy food and go to toilettes. 9 hours was really too, too long. 6 or 7 would be better.
Fun day!
