Your drive brings you through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as you increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As you continue further into northern Arizona, travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, one of the largest contiguous forests of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams is the first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition.

Your van climbs up to 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) before you reach your first stopping point in Grand Canyon National Park. Expect ample time to explore the features around the deepest and widest part of the canyon, which measures 277 miles (445 km) in length. Visit the El Tovar Hotel and Hopi House in Grand Canyon Village, multiple scenic lookout points along the East Rim Drive, and have time to shop, go for a walk, grab lunch (own expense), and visit cultural exhibits along the rim.

Your tour ends in the evening upon your return to your starting point in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area.

Route 66 (Pass By)

An amazing tour with an amazing tour guide! A wonderful experience and I highly recommend to anyone new to the area looking for a great introduction. Diane was spectacular and I will specifically plan to travel with again on my next trip to Arizona.
Perfect day!

We are Arizonans and had old friends in town who had never been to Sedona or the Grand Canyon. We were hoping Detours would be a good way to do it in one day—AND IT ABSOLUTELY WAS! We made some fast friends with the other tourists, and our guide Sam was fun and very knowledgeable, We learned a lot and had a blast!

The whole place was an amazing experience. Our driver was knowledgeable and fun. I had always heard that the Grand Canyon was so beautiful and it was hard to explain. That proved to be true. All in all it was a trip worth taking.

Amazing trip with the best Tour Guide and group of people ever. I was traveling solo but was later accompanied but what had to be the absolute best group of people who I referred to as the “six pack” or “70-sixers” as they were three amazing and lovely couples from Phoenix and Ohio. Detours pick up was prompt and courteous with Robert & Sam arriving in a very comfortable white van. I was the first pick up at 6 AM and then about 10 minutes later this energetic and effusive group of six (the 70-6ers) joined. I could tell right away that this was going to be a blast! They were n absolute HOOT!!! After two more pick up stops and another 6 added to the party, Robert hopped off leaving us in the most capable hands of Grand Canyon Sam and we were on our way with captain “Grand Canyon Sam”. Out tour guide (let’s call him GC Sam) was engaged, extremely knowledgeable, funny, and accommodating and just put the group of us (now 13 of us) at ease by creating an environment that made us feel we were with friends and not with strangers. His sometimes corny jokes (aided and abetted by that most wonderful group of 70-6ers) were so endearing one couldn’t help but warm up to GC Sam. Throughout the trip GC Sam gave us heads up of what was around the bends so that we could have our cameras ready. His curated locations for capturing photos was just outstanding! He provided us with his stack of pancakes analogy and his interpretation of how the earth tells us Her story through the layers of the magnificent rock formations within Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Having completed his undergraduate studies in the Grand Canyon area, GC Sam shared insights into the native flora, fauna, as well as the Navajo. Naturally, Sedona & the Grand Canyon speak for themselves with their majestic, ethereal beauty. But no doubt that our day’s journey with GC Sam made it all the more meaningful and memorable. Keep up the incredible work Sam (& Detours)!! And to the 70-6ers, (Jacque, Sandy, Cindy & their adorable spouses) keep spreading joy and laughter and I can only hope that our paths some day cross again! In three words….BEST TRIP EVER!

Great tour of the canyon
claudio_c, Mar 2023
We were fortunate to see the canyon after significant snow and was beautiful. Our tour guide Derrick took us to multiple stops in the canyon and had a scope so we were able to see deep in the canyon and the river. Driving was a bit crazy and mini bus a bit of a stiff ride but was nice to have someone else navigate. We also had a reverse route to Sedona which in my opinion was even better to come in at the top and work down.
Great tour in Arizona!! Highly recommend 😊

Eldo was an awesome tour guide. We throughly enjoyed our trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. We will definitely use this company again. Thank you.
“Grand” experience!

Our guide, Bruce, was great. Very informative and funny. Lucky enough to have joined with some very pleasant people.
Thumbs up
drew_s, Mar 2023
Bruce (tour guide) did a great job. Pointed out stuff we wouldn’t have known or seen otherwise, but didn’t feel compelled to talk the whole time. Nice job. Two tips: 1) have a visible tip jar. It’s okay to explicitly reference tips verbally (once). I felt bad if/when he got stiffed by someone. If they’re a non-tip person, so be it. If they simply don’t know any different, you have to let them know. 2). Don’t look at your phone or clipboard while driving. He was a VERY safe and attentive driver. But, still, you’re being paid to drive, just do that.

I was unfamiliar with Viator tour and skeptical that you would be able to fulfill the goals of this bucket list trip. You exceeded my expectations and the adventure was excellent. Stan was the perfect tour guide an allowed us to enjoy the trip and relax. Thank you, a very satisfied customer!

Bruce is an exceptional narrator and guide. I was traveling solo for this trip but I felt secured and at ease thanks to our lovely guide. He was very attentive and kind. The views were out of this world. Worth every penny!
