Pompeii Archaeological Park

On a fateful summer's day in 79 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius erupted, spewing volcanic ash over the prosperous city of Pompeii. Unaware of the imminent danger, most people continued on with their daily lives and as a result the entire town and around 20,000 of its inhabitants were buried under tons of ash and pumice. Almost 2,000 years later, you have the opportunity to explore the site of this famous disaster and see first-hand the houses, streets and public buildings miraculously preserved by the volcanic ash. Accompanied by your guide, you'll see such fascinating places such as the Forum, Thermal Baths and Lupanare brothel.

Great way to see Pompeii....

Great way to see Pompeii. It was so so hot that day and so busy! But it was still nice to have a guide to give us the history behind all the buildings. Definitely worth doing!!

The whole experience Walking where others have once walked in history. I found the whole experience remarkable. I was able to visualise fully the scenario of being in the streets of Pompeii , after listening to our guide .
Amazing guide

Above and beyond

The guide who took us through Pompeii was very good - informative, kept a good pace, managed the group well. Then, when I tore a ligament in my knee and couldn't walk, she arranged for medics to take me out of the city in a wheelchair. The guide who was on the bus with us then took over. He convinced the medics to let him use the wheelchair to get me back to the bus. Without his intervention, it would have been next to impossible for me to get back to the bus. I can't thank the Viator guides enough for helping me when I was in need.

Pompeii, what a day

Pompeii was amazing! How they were able to dig up the city, it was a must see. The only bad was it was very hot. I loved the market there also.
Chaotic but got the job done

We had limited time for a shore excursion on a cruise that stopped in Naples and had hoped to book an excursion to Pompeii with a small group, but sadly they were sold out. So we booked with a larger group and it happened to be the Thursday before Easter. Glad we found a way to Pompeii but what chaos! At least 4 language groups were herded down there on the same bus then split up among different guides by language once we arrived. Given that it was a holiday and many travelers were out and about, the experience was one of massive crowds. Our English-speaking tour guide had a group of about 30. She was good and managed well given the group size and crowds. Once we were to leave we were gain divided into those who went on to Mt Vesuvius and those who returned to Naples. There was a lot of standing around waiting and guessing where we were going and when. But it all happened. Glad we had the opportunity to see Pompeii but I would never do it again on a holiday or in a large group!
Hot time summer in the city

We were picked up at our cruise ship and taken to The bus terminal and rail station to pick up additional parties who are going on the tour. Upon arriving at Pompeii we were split into groups depending on which languages we spoke. Our guide was terrific and was able to communicate clearly in our language. She explained all the highlights of Pompeii. Although it said it was a half-day It was almost 7 hours. August is a brutally hot time to visit Pompeii.
Great Tour of Pompeii
Gordon_W, Aug 2019
This half day tour of Pompeii in Naples was eye opening. The air-conditioned bus was great especially in the hot weather and the hours of walking in the heat. Our tour guide Maria spoke in English and was very knowledgeable in the history of Pompeii. We had headsets to hear her clearly as there were crowds of people from other tours at the site. My family and I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend this to everyone.
Great time!

We just got off the NCL Epic & used Viator to book our Pompeii excursion. It was an amazing experience. Comfortable bus, & a GREAT tour guide, Maria! She gave us a lot of information, her English was clear to understand & I would definitely recommend seeing Pompeii if you are interested in history.
Great walking tour of Pompeii
Vasant_J, Aug 2019
Our guide spoke excellent English and gave a great walking tour of Pompeii. She covered a tremendous amount of history and provided insight into the local culture at the time of the eruption. We did not climb Vesuvius but apparently this is available as an add on. The only negative for us was pickup at the cruise ship dock was chaotic and delayed. We were supposed to leave at 9 40 but actually the bus left at 1030. Pompeii had no shade so being plenty of water inside, avaliable just outside of the entrance for purchase.
Great knowledge

Loved the tour! Easier to look around with a knowlegable tour guide! Pompeii is huge! Amazing place to visit. It was a very hot sunny day, so many get an umbrella. Not very stroller friendly but manageable.
Tremendous experience
Matt_F, Jul 2018
Pompeii is probably the most incredible site I've ever visited. My wife and I went on this excursion during our honeymoon cruise from the Naples port. The bus picked us up right at the port, which made things very convenient. The bus then drives through Naples and makes other stops at hotels to pick up other patrons, and then heads south to Pompeii; this took roughly 45-60 minutes. The guides were helpful and knowledgable. If you are at all a history or archaeology buff, you have to visit Pompeii. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Our trip to Pompeii was extremely enjoyable, with many thanks to our guide Maria who was very knowledgeable - consequently we were able to learn a lot about the history of Pompeii - this is definitely a not-to-be-missed opportunity to visit one of the most historic sites in the world!
Manuela waited for us at the port...
MarieEve_C, Oct 2016
Manuela waited for us at the port when we got off our cruise ship. It was very easy to find her, she had a paper with our name on it. Then we picked up a few people and went to Pompeii where our tourguide Gino did the guided visit. His english was sadly not perfect, he had a strong accent and we were a large group. I wouldn't recommend going in the summer, it must be overcrowded. Pompeii is superb, def worth it. After the tour, we were escorted back to our ship by Manuela again and it went very smoothly.

David C, Apr 2017
We booked our first Viatour tour in order to see Pompeii. The booking was a positive experience. It was the second day of our cruise so we met some nice people from the ship right off the bat. Our tour guide was excellent. We learned so much from Elisa sp?. She was informative and had a wry sense of humor. She paced us so that we never felt rushed, but we got to explore, explore, explore. I talked to other people who had toured with Viatour and they were all very happy with the guides who conducted them. Viatour had been a last minute idea and I wish we had investigated them for more of the places to which we journeyed. They will definitely be my first choice next time.

Polite, punctual, friendly. safe, helpful driver. Friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining guide. A great tour. We learned so much that would have passed us by without Maria to explain it. The best way to see Pompeii if time is limited.

A_W, Jun 2013
We came by cruise liner and were met at the terminal as promised on time with my name clearly displayed. The tour guide for Pompeii, we think his name was Antonio, was excellent. He had a very good and clear command of the english language, with an in depth knowledge of Pompeii spiced with plenty of humour. Good value for money, certainly compared to the on-board excursion price.

The actual tour of Pompeii was spectacular. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave a great tour. My only criticism is that there was NO time built in to look at the vendors who lined the street before going in the gates. All in our group due to ride back to Naples wanted 15 minutes or so to see what was for sale and the driver said there was no time for it and we had to leave. We also were given 10 minutes to look into a cameo shop; while that was nice, it was much too short. Our "1/2 day tour" was really a bit less than 3 1/2 hours, as the driver had another group to meet at 2 p.m. and he didn't pick us up until 10:30 a.m.
