Make your own way to the Piazza Porta Marina in central Pompeii to meet your guide (unless hotel or port pickup has been arranged), and use your skip-the-line tickets to head straight inside the archeological site of Pompeii.

Follow your guide on a walking tour of the ancient Roman city, admiring ruins that date back to as early as the 7th century BC.

Learn how the city was buried by the AD79 eruption of the nearby Mt Vesuvius volcano as you admire the remarkably preserved Roman Baths, Termopolium Capuano, and House of the Tragic Poet; stand in awe before the world’s oldest surviving Roman amphitheater; then hear stories of Roman life as you wander the Forum.

Next, head to the newly restored Villas or ‘Domus’, which were once home to rich aristocrats, and only opened to the public in March 2017. Stroll the magnificent ruins, stopping to admire the elaborate mosaics, beautifully restored frescoes, and gardens decorated with statues of mythical gods.

See the Domus of Venus with its colonnaded façade, striking courtyard, and renowned painting of the Birth of Venus, emerging from a seashell. Next, visit the House of Octavius Quartius, where the highlight is a painting of Narcissus; explore the House of the Fruit Trees, with its exquisite frescos, and stop by the House of Iulia Felix, which once served as a spa retreat.

After around five hours exploring Pompeii, your tour ends back at the starting point.

A tour of a lifetime with my guide Italo!
Jennifer_H, Apr 2022
There was a mix-up with my tour and I had no tour guide to meet me. Luckily Italo, another guide from Raphael Tours, warmly welcomed me into the private tour he was leading and continued with me when their 2 hour tour was finished. Italo was everything I could have asked for in a guide - considerate, incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, able answer all of my in-depth questions and provide insightful information into the ruins and the history. Despite the rough beginnings - which is the reason I removed one start - the tour turned out to be everything I wanted it to be. Bravo and Grazie Mille, Italo! A tour of a lifetime.
Wonderful trip

Had a fantastic tour of Pompeii. Tour guide was one of the best we have had during our visit to Italy. Not only focused on the history of Pompeii but also pointed out things that made Pompeii unique from other historical sites. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Pompeii.

This tour was fantastic!! Our tour guide, Veronica, was the best guide that we have ever had. She made the time fly by and involved our kids in the entire discussion. I would definitely recommend the five hour tour since I don’t think two hours would be enough time. Great experience!!

Wow we walked, listened and talked for an amazing five hours with Giada, our knowledgeable and energetic tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our private tours were the stand out experiences of our trip - and this was no exception. We were tired in the best possible way and profoundly impressed by Pompeii and our guide. We entered Pompeii with a decent knowledge of the site but without out guide providing context and direction.. literally.. we would not have enjoyed or valued our experience anywhere near the level we did.

What a wonderful tour! Our guide Fiorencia my apologies on the spelling was knowledgeable, attentive, and read our interests well. She adapted the tour and the stories to make the day relevant to us, which made it that much more special. She really knows Pompeii well and was able to give us details about the people who lived there and what it was like in the city and later when the eruption occurred. We learned quite a bit and the city became real rather than just an archaeological site. She was also considerate of our being tourists, helping us with future travel suggestions and taking time for restroom breaks and photo opportunities. Highly recommend!

Our guide was professional, very knowledgeable, entertaining, and just overall wonderful. Extra effort was made to make the tour fit into our schedule. We saw all the highlights of Pompeii, had the sights and history explained in detail, and didn't waste time aimlessly wandering around on our own. Highly recommended. We'd do it again to see all the stuff we didn't have time for.

Our private tour of Pompei with our guide Barbara was fantastic. While 5 hours seems long, it flew by as there is so much to see. Barbara was very knowledgeable about both the history and the sights of Pompei, which made the tour very informative. I could not imagine tackling Pompei without a guide. Barbara knew right where to take us, got into private sights and made sure we had priority where ever we were. Awesome tour! Highly recommended.

After spending this day with an expert guide, I can't imagine doing Pompeii without one. Our guide was fantastic and her detailed knowledge of the site and history made this ancient city come alive. We saw so much more than we would have if we had wandered around with a map and guidebook.

I highly recommend the all day tour, which is what we did. It's actually about 5 hours and worth every penny. This was the only way to see Pompeii, what an amazing place to visit. Our tour guide Margaretta spoke very good English and answered all of our questions with ease and sense. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes, you will walk everywhere. Bring ample bottle water, as there is none available once inside the grounds. Don't worry about restrooms, there are several places to stop on the grounds and the facilities are VERY CLEAN. Enjoy your time there. Once again, it is an amazing place to visit and learn.

We had the most wonderful guide, Firenze. She had a good sense of humour, spoke excellent English, and knew the history of Pompeii inside out. I highly recommend the full-day 5 hour tour and we couldn't have asked for a better guide than Firenze.

Andrea Fiorello was our tour guide. We wanted to say that it was the most wonderful experience. Andrea was kind, thoughtful, funny, friendly, and knowledgeable. He very obviously cared about the location. He taught us so much. He explained everything wonderfully and we had a perfect day.

Our tour guide Rosanna was the absolute best guide ever and my husband and I were so fortunate to have a private tour with her! She was so passionate about all the history of Pompeii and took us to see all the highlights of the place. Anytime I pointed something out she knew the answer to my question and explained everything in such detail about how the ancient Romans lived. She truly was such an amazing person and she shared her education with us which sounded very exciting! Our tour started at 9:00AM and she was with us until 2:00PM, we met her at the café right next door to the gates. Pompeii is very large so much bigger than we ever imagined, make sure you wear very comfortable walking sneakers/shoes, bring a water bottle with you and bring a hat because there really is no shade there. We came across 2 water fountains that are still in working order so you can fill up your bottles. At the end of the tour there is a café on the other side of the market place where you can get something to eat and drink and even a gelato and there's tables if you're lucky enough to find one. I completely recommend this tour to you and if are lucky enough to get Rosanna you will have a wonderful time with her and you'll learn so much of the ancient people of Pompeii just as we did!

This was a great tour. Five hours passed in a flash of fascination. Our guide, Fiorenza, kindly met us at the train station in Pompeii and then weaved our passage through this ancient city with a mixture of knowledge, humour and kindness. Her familiarity of Roman living, traditions, myths and architecture both past and present was astounding. We were lucky to view the city on a glorious day in early Spring when crowds were less encroaching. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and Fiorenza was an exemplary tour guide she made the day very special.

I scheduled a tour at the tail end of our trip to Italy. We had a great time and was well worth the money. My husband and I walked around with an archeologist exploring the ruins. We both came away with so much information and knowledge about how the people of Pompeii both lived and died as well as understanding geologically what was happening. Simply fascinating and a great way to end our trip to Italy. We also went by ourselves by train and bus to go up Mt. Vesuvius which was awesome. Next time we are in Italy we have to venture to the Archeological Museum in Naples - we didn't have enough time but our guide at Pompeii said this is a must see just be careful because Naples has a lot of crime/pick pockets and the taxi drivers are shady.

Wow! Our guide, Giada, was lovely. Very knowledgeable and personable. Her help made Pompeii come alive and the private tour was so worth the money. Be sure to visit the archeological museum afterwards if only to see the mosaics--they are more intricate than you can imagine!

The tour was fantastic, and our guide Loretta was out of this world, she was so enthusiastic about the place and so very concerned about it's preservation. to top it off, what a voice she sang to us in the arena to show how the engineering back then gave an effect of surround sound, absolutely brilliant. This for me was the highlight of my vacation.

Even though the private tour was a tad expensive, it was well worth it and our guide, Antonio, was brilliant. He knew his subject and delivered it with real passion and for the whole day. It was a delightful and insightful day. I would thoroughly recommend this tour if you are interested in the detail of the Roman civilization and if you are assigned Antonio, you will have a most enjoyable and entertaining day.
