Overview

This fun chocolate making class is something a little different from the usual Puerto Vallarta activities. Learn the process cacao beans are put through as they become the delicious chocolate sweets we know and love. You’ll get hands on experience making Mexican chocolate drinks and bon-bons you can take home.

  • Get a discount in the craft shop if you want to buy a souvenir
  • Open to everyone 8 years and older

What's Included

  • Tour guide within the museum

I signed up for this workshop thinking it would be a fun way to spend the afternoon. I read that it would provide a history of chocolate but I was amazed at how informative it was as well as fun, messy, and tasty all in one. As a teacher, I love learning new things everyday, and look forward to learning more about the history and culture of places that I visit. This satisfied this and so much more. I don't want to give everything away, but I did learn more about chocolate and its history with the Mexican culture for the past hundreds of years. But it wasn't just sitting there listening to the facts. We experienced grinding the beans as it was done hundreds of years ago as well as a more modern way. We tasted tea, chocolate drinks as it was prepared hundreds of years ago as well as hot chocolate that we know today. Through all of this learning, we were able to make chocolate candy to take home with us for souvenirs. The only negative was that the souvenirs never made it home. Nope. It was eaten the next day for Easter. Gia was a great presenter of the class. While she apologized in the beginning for not knowing English perfectly, she did an awesome job. She was pleasant, personable, and did a great job connecting with the six of in the class coming from different cities in the United States. Do I recommend this? Absolutely! And on our next trip to PV, I plan to book one of their other classes.

We had a great time learning about the history of chocolate and making some! Our class was small so we had lots of time for questions, and Elias was a font of knowledge.

We had the Bean to Bar Workshop with Zoar- she was so great with all of us- especially engaging our kids! Had so much knowledge - we loved learning from her. And guided us so well in all we made- between the chocolates and different kinds of drinks- was a highlight of our time here!

Lizette was as sweet as the chocolate. Great class . The historical information was nice , along with the hands in activities . The Chico museum was clean and air conditioned , friendly staff .

We took this tour on my birthday! It was so much fun! The instructor was amazing. She was so bubbly and a lot of fun. She told the story behind the chocolate and how everything was prepared. We did hands on making the chocolate, putting it in molds, preparing the bean for the drink. It was amazing a lot of fun & laughs! This tour was the best part of our trip & I hated to say good by! A must do excursion! Excellent!!!!

From learning about cocoa beans' origins to crafting our own bars, the experience was hands-on and educational. Expected something different at this workshop. We spent most of the time learning about cacao beans and hot chocolate and its making. Spent very little time in actual chocolate making. The guide was really nice and spoke english well and really took time to explain everything. The workshop was geared more towards hot chocolate and its making, so just depends on what you guys expect.

We were a party of 11, children and grandchildren, and everyone had so much fun. Our instructor was so good, informative and engaging with the children. Not to mention how delicious the chocolate was… we give it 5 stars!!!

Very fun and informative! The guide did a great job of showing us how to make chocolates and the history and lore of cacao. Better than I even imagined. The chocolates and drinks you get to make are delicious.

Low key, informative, enjoyable time. While waiting we got to enjoy samples of jam, barbq sauce, tea, and honey. Make sure you do so. Had a great time. 5 stars cuz I really enjoyed it. Husband not so much cuz chocolate process was too bitter. He needed more sugar so ask for more if you need. Gave 4 stars for Price to value for about an actual 1.5 hours of actual class. 40.00 usd would be more in line. Really friendly staff and enjoyable class.

Hands on from bean roasting to eating finished chocolate. You learn about the history of chocolate in Mexico, drink tea from the bean shells, drink hot chocolate and eat true Mexican chocolate. Delicious and informative. Highly recommend

Had a lovely time making chocolate! It was a very informative workshop so come ready to learn. You will be doing a lot of listening so come prepared for that. The chocolate was delicious and it was so fun picking out molds for our chocolate and adding spices to it. Highly recommend this.

Freshest chocolate you’ll ever have!

If you are ever in Puerto Vallarta, I highly recommend the From Bean to Bar workshop at the Chocolate Museum. You get to husk freshly roasted cacao beans, then grind with a mortar, the husks are then used for your tea, the paste has sugar added to it so it is the freshest chocolate you’ll ever taste. The remainder is added to hot milk, cinnamon, and anise like the Spaniards did. You then get melted chocolate with mix ins and choose a mold. You drink the Spanish hot chocolate while waiting for the molds to chill, which you then put in a take home box. A great history of chocolate is told along the way.
