My tour guide, Alex, was such a great person! He was kind and thoughtful to all. The trip went really smoothly and the beaches were amazing. He was full of happiness and you could feel how passionate he was about everyone's experience. I recommend packing a good amount of water and some snacks for the trek. If you're not a regular hiker, it could sneak up on you. Would definitely recommend this to any passing traveler.

Wonderful day exploring less populated beaches.
    Nadia_D, Sep 2023
Had a fantastic day hiking from Boca De Tomatlán to Las Animas, discovering and swimming at many of the beaches along the way. Elian was very knowledgeable about the native fauna and flora along the way, helped with the tricky parts of the hike and stopped and offered to take photos for the guests too. It was good to catch the bus as it gave me confidence to catch the bus on the following days of my trip and know what I was doing.

    Hiking & beach excursion
    Remi_D, Sep 2023
This excursion was a tough one. Let me start out by saying we don’t normally hike mountains in humidity but do light hiking a few times a year. We are in our mid to late 30s and workout a few times a week. We took this tour with 20 year olds so get very old at the end. This is mostly hiking and you get to relax at the first beach for 30 min. Going from dry to wet back to dry is tough as well so be prepared bring extra socks and dry clothes. The hike it self was pretty but very challenging, you are literally going straight up and down many times. You start by being picked up by public transportation to the river village, which we weren’t used to for a tour. Then you start your hike through the village, up wooden bridges that aren’t very secure and through the jungle. Bring sunscreen and lots of bug spray. Once at the beach it was pretty but just okay. I think this would be better if it wasn’t hours of hiking, maybe 3 max. You can tap out and get a taxi boat to the final destination outside of PV, Los Animos. This beach has many restaurants and water activities. We were taken to Abelardo’s for lunch, 10/10 recommend, great service too. The group was there about 2 hours. We finished the tour by taking a water taxi back to the original village. Where you can take a taxi or the public transportation back to the original spot or your hotel. We did a taxi which was faster and less crowded. Was a challenging tour but enjoyed the first few hours as it was manageable. Recommend bring lots of snacks, towels for beach and sweat you lose, lots of water, socks, and dry clothes. Tip money as well.

Hello Remi, thank you so much for leaving a review. for a better reference the hike is 4 km over irregular terrain. the heat is a factor that can make it a bit harder but in general we consider this hike medium level. Also the public transport is indicated on our page. kind regards!
    Great Experience
    Coralis_S, Aug 2023
Great of the beaten path tour with an authentic experience. The views were spectacular. The hike was challenging with the heat but worth the effort.

    Alex was a great tour...
    Emerald_S, Aug 2023
Alex was a great tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the area, showing us things we would never have known if we did that hike on our own, like a bubble gum tree and seeing a termite nest. He was very patient, even carrying one of our water bottles to help us out. The restaurant we ended at was a little on the pricier side compared to other places we had eaten in PV, but still not too bad (40$ CAD for two meals). This tour was a highlight of our trip.
    Response from Host, Aug 2023
Hello Emerald. So glad you enjoyed the experience. We feel proud when travellers feel wel taken care of by our guides and learn something new. Kind regards and hopefully see you soon again in PV
Great, difficult hike with unbelievable awards.
    PIOTR_D, Aug 2023
All six beaches are beautiful. Getting to them is difficult. This is whole day hike so make sure you have enough water. Trial itself is difficult and requires a lot of scrambling from rock to rock because original steps are washed or quite unstable. It is continually going up and down ad up until you get to fifth beach and continue to the last one. Third or fourth beach had great places for snorkling right of the rocks by the beach. It has also about 10-15 feet high rock for jumping to the ocean. Worst/hardest part is getting to first beach, half of our group of ten people gave up, when saw start of uphill trail going to second one. Here they took water taxi to sixt beach (called by our guide Alex). Kudos to him for handling all during full hike. Over all be prepare for short and hard hike with beautiful views and great beaches with warm ocean. Loved it.

    Engaging Hike with Beautiful Views
    David_K, Aug 2023
This was an amazing hike that gave a great opportunity to explore more nature around Puerto Vallarta! We met our guide at the bus stop in the Zona Romantica area (a short walk from our hotel). Our guide helped explain the logistics of the bus (pretty easy since we were getting off at the last stop), and we set off for the 30-40min ride to Boca de Tomatlan. The busses are very well used, so the ride is pretty full at the start. As more folks get off, seating opens up, but some folks might stand for a few stops initially. At the final stop our guide notified us to got off and we gathered to discuss the day's hike. We briefly stopped at a restroom ($10MXN pesos). The port near the start of the hike has lots of boats and birds to view. We crossed the river on a cool pedestrian bridge and trekked for about 10min to get a view of the port. Here, our guide took time to help different groups in the tour take photos, and show us a map of the hike we were about to embark on. After some photos, we set off on the main chunk of the hike. It was about 20-30min of hiking on mixed terrain - some portions were paved, other parts were hilly technical forest. Overall it was a moderate trail, but the temperature/humidity made it more challenging. Our guide kept a good pace and made sure it was appropriate for every member of the group. He made sure to take breaks often to let everybody drink water and take short breaks. He would explain different details about the port, beaches or forest at times throughout too! He brought a great sense of energy and enthusiasm, and chatted with each member of the group throughout! The hike in the forest and along the coast was beautiful! We stopped at our first beach, Los Colomitos (the smallest beach in all of Mexico!) and enjoyed our time there briefly. Our guide warned us that there had been some jellyfish in the area the day before (and confirmed that again after he got a small sting at this beach!). We appreciated his forewarning, and still got to enjoy the beach thoroughly the jellyfish notwithstanding. Next we hiked along to the 2nd and 3rd beaches, stopping at each for a bit to take in the sites. It was maybe 20min between each beach. Our guide brough some delicious mango for us to snack on too - a great touch! Finally we stopped and swam for a bit at the jellyfish-free 4th beach (Los Caballos, I think, there were so many beaches!). After swimming a bit, we enjoyed some shade and got a coconut from a vendor there on that beach (bring some cash for snacks :) ). Finally we hiked to the main port at Los Animas and had lunch and a drink at a restaurant there. We relaxed here and chatted with our guide and amongst the group for a bit before heading to the doc and taking a short water taxi ride (~10min) back to Boca de Tomatlan. From there we boarded a bus back to Puerto Vallarta (~30min) where we had started the tour. The day we were hiking was very warm and humid, so pack lots of water, and I'd recommend the earliest session! The hike was beautiful and the beaches were each amazing - this was a great way not only to see some of the beaches, but also gave us a preview of some of the area outside of Puerto Vallarta if you wanted to venture out to these different beaches/area on your own!

    Great trip, with some caveats
    Siddharth_T, Aug 2023
Great hike! Our guide was excellent and super responsive. The hike is moderately challenging in the beginning as we cover some elevation (especially in humid heat), but it's worth it. Bring lots of water and electrolytes! It can be quite draining at times. One suggestion would be to have more life vests. The guide was carrying only one (which is understandable since he can't carry more on his person); some group members had to limit their time snorkeling because of it. Maybe all the folks interested in snorkeling could be given equipment at the start of the trip to carry themselves? Also the restaurant at the end, Abelardo's, is a tourist trap. They sneak in the tip in the bill, and then try to charge another tip when swiping the card. Also overcharged for food after verbally communicating an lower price for a vegetarian substitution. Maybe the tour company could choose a more ethical partner to take the clients to at the end of the trip.

    Challenging BUT AMAZING
    Angel_G, Aug 2023
The hikes itself were a bit challenging although I have a moderate active lifestyle but the breaks we got in between made it manageable. Our guide , Eliam, was absolutely amazing!!! He made the experience even better. He was very attentive to everyone’s needs and made sure we were careful in crossing some paths since there was a big storm the day before. He offered us small snacks (fruit) which were delicious. He took everyone’s pictures as well which was great. Along the whole hike he would tell us interesting facts about the trees, the beaches, and the area as well which was cool. I would not recommend the hike itself to children too young or anyone who can not do much activity like going up and down steep steps. He did offer us a boat ride to the next meeting spot if we decided to skip the hiking. Overall, it was definitely a highlight of our trip!

Fun challenging hike w/ beautiful beaches
    Kate_g, Jul 2023
Elian was a great guide. The day is long with a challenging at times hike. Bring plenty of water, Gatorade etc snacks and closed toed shoes as it can be slippery. The path has steep high and lows some slippery rocks. Not for young children without hiking experience -we stopped many times -the beaches were beautiful and the rests wonderful! The mangoes were the best I have ever tasted at the mango/coconut stand on Animas beach. Although lunch is not included we stopped at a restaurant on the beach. Make sure to bring money!
    A magical hike!
    Manolet_S, Jul 2023
Such a wonderful day to enjoy nature and the beauty of puerto Vallarta beaches. The hike is challenging but the guide has been very helpful and accommodating. The weather and terrain can be a challenge but your reward is the awesome view and beautiful beach. Highly recommend but expect to get a good work out. Option to always tap out and take a boat ⛵⛵⛵ to the final destination so worry not!!!
Great experience, would do it again
    smbly, Jun 2023
This hike was fun and a great value. Eduardo the guide is funny and knowledgeable. He frequently checked in with the each individual to make sure everyone was comfortable given the high heat. He hailed a water taxi for a senior member of the group after determining she was fatigued. Just a kind and attentive guy! The hike is not easy in the summer.

    Above and beyond!

I am so glad I booked this excursion. After finding out the cruise ship would arrive after the original excursion departure other arrangements were made and we got to still do this. Armando was the fantastic guide who was very friendly and helpful. He had fun information he shared along the hike about the culture and also some of the plants, animals and insects. Armando was also prepared with a first-aid kit which was handy as one of my kids got a blister. Also, Armando's patience with my kids who's pace was slower and his kind encouragement helped us all have the best time ever! And as a pleasant farewell he sent me a short video of our ship leaving port that night which looked very pretty.
    Response from Host, Jun 2023
Hello Kevin. So glad you guys could still join the tour. I see you had a great time with Armando. That makes us very proud. Kind regards!
Best way to see authentic Puerto Vallarta

    Highlight of my trip
    John_W, Jun 2023
This tour exceeded my expectations in every single way. Our guide Elian was one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. He knows all the best spots, and the beaches we stopped at were just incredible. This tour is such a good way to get out of the tourist areas and see some local hidden nature. The hike is fairly strenuous so be ready for a workout. But it’s completely worth it. Be sure to bring some cash to buy drinks and snacks at some of the stops along the way. This was by far the highlight of my PV trip, and I can’t wait to come back and do it again.
    Response from Host, Jun 2023
