Meeting And Pickup

Meeting point

  • Ingólfur Square
    Austurstræti 4 101, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland

We meet up at Ingolfstorg Square in the center of Reykjavik by the two stone high seat pillars (Over 2 meters high), The square is at the beginning of Austurstræti (Austurstræti 1) and is squared off by the streets Aðalstræti, Hafnarstræti, Veltusund, and Vallarstræti. If you walk down Laugavegur (The main shopping street) please just continue all the way down until you come to the square always walking straight down until you can't continue further. On the Ingolfur square itself, you can see Kvosin a small grocery market and Center Hotel Plaza. We sincerely recommend map programs like Google Maps because the Icelandic street names can be quite tricky.

End point

  • Jón Sigurðsson
    Austurvöllur, 43W6+V4C, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland

We end up close to our starting point but now infront of the Parliament building at Austurvöllur public square.

This walking tour was the first thing we did on our trip to Reykjavik (~2 hours after arriving at our hotel. Looking back, it was a great jumping-off point. Our guide on the day was Bardi: he was fantastic. Entertaining, informative, and considerate. This is a wonderful way to experience Icelandic folklore and see it come to life in front of you - highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the walking tour! Our guide told the best of stories and did a great job of explaining creatures of folklore that I was no familiar with. For those reading my review please tip your guide if you enjoyed the tour! For the tour guide, please walk just a little slower. You were over 2 m or 6 ft tall. I am significantly shorter! Lol

Skip it, do a different one
Krista_S, Jul 2023
I've done walking tours in different countries through viator. This is the first one I'd say skip it. I was anticipating more Folklore history and fun stories that my 6 and 3 year olds would get a kick out of. This was more...meh.
We had a great time

My family enjoy the experience the guide Matthias was informative, personable and witty. He knew his history and told in an entertaining way. The locations were interesting and beautiful. Lots of fun. With a bad leg the walk easy only one small hill places to sit and not rushed. Would highly recommend!
Fun and entertaining.

Like two tours in one!
Julie_T, Jul 2023
Our guide was amazing with not only telling tales but explaining the history and culture of Iceland. We feel like we got two tours in one. We had several conversations about everyday life in Iceland and how it is influenced by centuries of oral traditions.
Fun walking tour
Emily_B, Jul 2023
We loved this! Our tour guide Mathias was fantastic! We loved hearing all about Icelandic folklore. We got to see more of Reykjavik than we would have otherwise - particularly the cemetery - which was so beautiful. We booked this trip at the last minute because we had some extra down time and it ended up being a highlight of our time in Iceland.
Great experience
