What To Expect

Meet your guide in Hólmur for the 5-mile (9-km) drive to Vatnajökull National Park. Upon reaching the base of Fláajökull, snap on your provided helmet and crampons and follow your expert guide across Iceland’s glaciated landscape that connects with Vatnajökull’s stunning ice cave.

This small-group hike takes roughly an hour with an approximate 524 feet (160 meters) of elevation gain. Along the way, hear informative commentary on the glacier’s geological history and its development during the last century.

Once inside the ice cave you’ll have 30 to 40 minutes to spend, so don’t forget your camera! Afterward, you're driven back to Hólmur.

Vatnajokull Glacier

The tour can take 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on location and weather. The ice cave is naturally made, so nature decides how they are shaped and where they are located. Safety is our priority. We always choose the best Ice cave for every trip. The drive and the walk to the ice cave can vary between days.

Great Guide and Amazing Blue Ice Cave
Jessica_C, Mar 2023
Amazing experience and great tour guide! I am not in great shape, so the hike to and from the cave was a challenge for me, but doable. And the guide was very considerate, took time to talk with each person during the hike and made sure we were doing ok. He encouraged us to take our time and not rush. Our tour left at 11 so it wasn’t too crowded when we were in the cave. The ice cave was amazing and I got a lot of great pictures so it was worth it!
Unforgettable

Highly recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure! The hike to the glacier was relatively easy, just make sure you got your waterproof hiking boots on! The views from under the Vatna glacier were spectacular and our tour guide Sindri was very kind enough to take some really cool pictures of us ☺️
Don’t miss this part of the South Coast!

The best part of our vacation! Sintri somehow got us in the cave by ourselves. Bring an empty water bottle to fill. Simply incredible.
Definitely recommend this

This is a small, very experienced, local company and our guide Sindri definitely went out of his way to give us the best experience. As he said to us; there are a ton of photoshopped ice-cave photos out there online but these caves are a natural phenomenon that constantly change and reform every year so you can never be quite sure what you'll find. We consider ourselves lucky; with the guide AND the cave. Definitely recommend

The guide Raki? was great!!! Dont let my avg rating take away from his efforts. He was informative, funny and really seemed to love what he does. The rating is based on Crystal Cave. Having done a similar tour on a different glacier 2 years back, Crystal Cave itself was the let down. To begin...Its just a really small cave. One narrow tiny tube that terminates in a puddle. the last Iceland ice cave I visited was tall and filled with the bluest ceilings and walls I could imagine. Pillars of clear blue ice. Crystal Cave....blue ceiling for half the cave. Add in that way too many companies have crammed way too many people into this small space and it was far less enjoyable than I had hoped. Maybe, if this were the only experience I had I would be more impressed. But, knowing what I know....the cave was a disappointment. Kudos to the company and Raki for making it enjoyable....without that, I would consider it a total waste.

Excellent tour - very exiting and a must do during your visit in Iceland. Being taken inside a real ice cave from the biggest Iceberg in Europe is an amazing experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the information provided during the tour helped to appreciate it even more. I would do it again without a doubt.

Absolutely great!!! We met the tour guide at the glacier lagoon and from there about 20 minutes took their big 4x4 vehicle near the glacier. The guide gave us our helmets and shoe spikes and then we started the 30 minute hike up the glacier towards the ice cave. Once inside the cave they gave us plenty of time to look around and take pictures before coming back down. Overall the tour took between 2-2.5 hours. It is amazing and a must do if you are in Iceland. The guide was great, very knowledgeable and funny. The ice cave is awesome, it is surreal and the pictures look amazing. Very happy with the company and the tour.

Great! We loved the tour. We were fortunate to be the only ones on this tour with 2 tour guides. They were prompt and informative. We enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend this tour company. Great pictures. Unbelievable. The local area is beautiful too. Spend a couple days there.
