Pickup details

All passengers must be ready at their designated Starting Point/Hotel/Bus Stop 30 minutes before the tour is scheduled to depart. The "No pickup" does not include hotel pick-up, but complimentary pickup from the Reykjavik Terminal / Bus Hostel at Skógarhlíð 10, please be at meeting point 30 minutes prior to departure. You must contact the local operator after booking to confirm your pick-up location or meeting point.

What To Expect

Leave the city by comfortable coach, and journey into Iceland’s countryside to search for the Northern Lights.

En route, listen as your guide explains the science behind the extraordinary natural phenomenon, also known as the Aurora Borealis. Learn about the Icelandic myths that have grown up around the spectacle, and how the fluorescent lights are formed by electrically charged particles in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Leave Reykjavik far behind, and head into an area free from any urban light pollution—the darker the skies, the better the chances of getting a good view of the lights.

Hop out of the coach at select locations with your camera in hand and scan the skies, with pointers from your guide. If you’re lucky, be treated to a display and gaze at the shimmering veils of fluorescent lights as they dance and move across the sky.

If you’re keen to get shots, get tips from your guide on how to set up your camera and take good quality photos. Sightings can’t be guaranteed, but if you don’t observe the lights, you receive a complimentary ticket to take the evening tour on another day.

After your evening spent looking for the lights, return to Reykjavik where your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off.

The coach pick up went smoothly and it was warm and comfortable. When we arrived at the location, it was good to have WC but there were 2 strong lights, causing light pollution, which meant a small glimpse of green light later was not ideal. We learned that the count was level 2, which meant the chance of seeing the lights was slight. We waited a boring 3 hours for a bare glimpse. Of course this is a chance you take.

Disappointing display

It started out well, we were picked up on time and taken to the bus station to get into a bigger coach, the guide was okay although he kept repeating how the northern lights show themselves, we arrive at our destination and waited and waited for the northern lights, they did appear for a very short time and Very miniscule, it was such a disappointment as this was what we really wanted to see more than anything else on this holiday and I know its not the tour operators fault that it was such a poor display, the reason I gave it an average score is that when we got back to you bus station the guide appeared to say we should get off the coach but when we did there was no smaller buses to take us back to our hotels, we asked him how we are to get back and he seemed confused so he said for us all to get back on the coach and he took us to bus stops near our hotels, we ended up getting out of the wrong stop as he wasn't clear as what stop was needed so we missed ours and had to find our way back which was a bit scary as it was our first day and we hadn't got our bearings yet, so not a good first day of our holiday.
