Put this on your to-do list
Stephanie_B, Mar 2023
Since I knew I was coming to Iceland I wanted to swim/ snorkel in the Silfra Fissure. I liked how they kept the swimming groups small. I knew ahead of time about the discomfort of the dry suits and the wait time before you go in ( if there is a line), so I wasn’t bothered by it. They help you into the suits which are cumbersome. The views are stunning and worth the visit.
The air was colder than the water
Erin_D, Mar 2023
Well organized! There were 4 guides in the group and all of them did their part! We had Gretar (sp?) pick us up and he added some fun tidbits on the way back! The process did take a long time to get ready, but I honestly don’t know how it could be made faster. The guides were super helpful and gave lots of tips along the way! When we snorkeled, Arturo led a group of five. He made us feel comfortable and relaxed so we could enjoy this beautiful experience! Was it cold getting ready and also when we got back? Yes. Absolutely. Was snorkeling in the unique location worth it? Yes. Absolutely. The water was warmer than the outside temp! I was bad at the snorkeling, but whenever I had to turn around and float on my back for a break, I got to see a beautiful view of the North American plate and gorgeous endless skies.
An absolute must for your trip - Incredible!
Laura_V, Feb 2023
This was the best experience we had in Iceland! The tour guides make sure you are well briefed and know what to expect. The dry suits kept us dry and protected us against the cold waters. The snorkeling itself was incredible! Views were so clear it was like looking at a photograph, definitely the clearest we have seen out of all of our snorkel destinations. Would 100% recommend to anyone it's an absolute must to see and experience! A big thank you to our guide Bjarni who was great and kept checking in with us to make sure we were all okay.
Don’t do it on the coldest day of the year
Justin_N, Jan 2023
It was -20 Celsius, the coldest day of the year, but they didn’t cancel the trip. The guides were amazing but it was so cold that 1/3 of us didn’t even go into the water we just stayed on the bus. This looks like an amazing trip but not when it’s so cold.
Time does not reflect experiance
Paige_W, Jan 2023
Please be warned this excursion has no other facilities other than toilets. You get changed in the mini bus transport you are collected in and outside in freezing temperatures. You spend 30 minutes snorkelling and the rest of the two and a half hours is getting the dry suit on outside in freezing temperatures. It is a nature reserve however the set up is poor.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Hello Paige W Sorry to hear you did not like our setup and I truly hope you enjoyed all the beauty that Silfra has to offer though you do not mention that in your review. The location for the snorkeling is in a national park and a UNESCO world heritage site, as I told you in the snorkeling pre-briefing. That means that there are strict rules in place and no building allowed in the area. Us and all other operators at Silfra adhere to the same rules, we are allowed our vans/busses and they must be gone at days end. People are offered to change inside our minibusses or in our changing room van. All customers then put on their drysuits outdoors as they are big and bulky. We also help each and everyone donning their suits so it is done correctly and to minimise the risk of any leaks while snorkeling. Neck seals and wrists seals of the suits are also very fragile and that is another reason why we ensist on helping each and everyone. After the tour we also help each and every customer removing the suits and other equipment so it is done correctly and as fast as possible. Dressing up and undressing groups of people does take quite some time but our booking page also clearly recommends customers to dress according to weather. We are constantly trying to improve our setup or organizing and we have been operating for years. Time spent in the water is 35-40 minutes and we always offer our customers to spend extra time snorkeling near the exit platform at the Silfra Lagoon. Best Regards The Adventure Vikings Team
Better options
Chris_N, Dec 2022
There was too much time standing around waiting to get the suits on. It was not very organized in terms of getting the guests outfitted in an expedited fashion
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Hello Chris N We are sorry to hear that you dont like our organizing at the location. Dressing and undressing groups of customers unfortunately does take time but we always recommend everyone, on our booking pages, to dress according to weather. We ensist on helping each and every customer to put the suits on so it is done correctly and to minimize the risk of leaks. After the tour we also help all our customer to remove the suits and other equipment so it is done correctly and as fast as possible. On the booking page you can also find information regarding how long time the tour takes as well as how much time is spent in the water. Our organizing is the process of many years of work but as a company we are of cause always trying to improve. Best Regards The Adventure Vikings team

A must if you travel to iceland. Our guide Gretar was great and professional. The rest of the crew was also very welcoming. Would go again anytime.
A must experience.
Christopher_A, Nov 2022
Spectacular underwater scenery, amazing water clarity, and of course, really cold water. We had an interesting diverse group and our personable knowledgeable guide was a huge plus.

Victoria_R, Nov 2022
It was fun! Would do it again. Different from my other snorkeling experiences! Don’t get worried about being in cold water. It’s not challenging at all .
Once in a lifetime! DO IT!!!
Sharon_T, Oct 2022
Boy am I glad me and my friends decided to do this adventure last minute! Our guide, Gretar, was absolutely amazing! Starting from pick up to drop off, Gretar took really good care of us, kept us informed, managed our expectations and kept us feeling safe the entire time we were in the extremely cold (and delicious) glacier water. Definitely a great experience! Thank you Viking Adventures!! Thank you Gretar!!

What an experience! With the wetsuit on, it was not as cold as I thought. Would do it again when I am back in Iceland
Yes! Do it!
Gabrielle_P, Aug 2022
Luis was awesome. I had a great time. I felt like I was in a conga line a bit, but it’s completely understandable as they need to move so many people through the space. I highly recommend this unique experience.
Incredible Experience!
Sarah_P, Jun 2022
Fantastic experience! Our guide was Luis and he was very knowledgeable and made you feel comfortable with the process. Perfect amount of time spent in the water and I will never forget how crystal clear the water was, incredibly special place to be! Thank you for the one-of-a-kind experience!
Wonderful Water experience
Mick_S, Apr 2022
This trip is awesome. The build up getting ready was a bit cold, but essential so the safety and the suit up was done correctly. Chico and Luis were brilliant guides and instructors. Then the views in the water were incredible. Thanks you to all the team
Highly recommend!
Allison_D, Mar 2022
Great, responsive communication. Great staff with the added benefit of having a separate changing van instead of getting gear on out in the cold! Wonderful tour overall!
Good fun trip
Daniel_B, Feb 2022
Most of the time is getting dressed. Part of the fun! Warning, if you are even slightly claustrophobic, this would not be for you. We did it in -7 Celsius, and yes it was cold. But I would say more uncomfortable than I doable. Luis was great. He is fun and professional! I would request Luis!
Amazing experience
Barry_N, Jan 2022
Really nice and friendly guide (Luis). Picked up on time and had a very small group of just 3 of us. Good equipment, keeps you warm and dry - definitely wear thermals and flexible trousers and a jumper for extra warmth. It is an incredible experience. Would definitely do again with the same company.
This was an awesome tour...
Maria_B, Jan 2022
This was an awesome tour and I would highly recommend! The water was about 2 degrees Celsius but you stay very dry in the dry suit. Your head and hands do get pretty wet but it's not too bad. You spend about 30 - 40 minutes in the water. The water is extremely clear and we had great visibility. I think it does help to have used a snorkel before so you know what to expect breathing only using your mouth but it's definitely not necessary.
Great experience! Don't be afraid of the cold water!
Catarina_J, Nov 2021
Great experience with our instructor Chico, from Portugal! Caring, attentive, calm and secure, made this activity into a great fun and unforgettable experience for us! We didn't even felt the cold water (the drysuits really work!) L. Would totally do this again with this company.

I Had an unusual experience, but I would still highly recommend this tour to my friends and family. I am short 5' and heavy (but under the weight limit) The suit did not fit me properly due to my height. The tour guides were amazing and did all they could to help me. I am glad I tried it, even though I was not able to swim with my group.
