Pickup details

Pick up service is available only within central Reykjavik at selected hotels and bus stops. Make sure to take this in consideration before booking your tour. If you are staying outside of the central Reykjavik area, please send us a message and we will tell you where to meet us. Please note we don't operate pickups outside of Reykjavik.

What To Expect

Start your 5-hour tour with a pickup from your central Reykjavik hotel or alternatively, from a central location in the city. Then, travel by air-conditioned vehicle into Thingvellir National Park, where Silfra is located.

As you travel, take in the volcanic landscapes and hear from your guide about the park’s geology and history as the site of Iceland’s earliest parliaments. Thingvellir is also famous for the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates: a valley becoming gradually ever wider as the plates slowly pull apart. Some of the fissures and faults between the plates, such as Silfra, are filled with clear, cold water.

On arrival at Silfra, hop out, and listen to an introduction to snorkeling in the fissure. Then, don a special dry suit over your everyday clothes to stay dry and warm in the cold water.

Learn how to use your snorkeling equipment, and enter the water via steps. Then, follow your guide on a 30- to 40-minute tour of the only place on the planet where you can snorkel between two continental plates.

Float through the intensely blue glacial waters that are famously clear for having filtered through the underground lava for 30 to 100 years. The incredible visibility — more than 328 feet (100 meters) — showcases the rocks, with their emerald plant life and algae creating beautiful colorscapes.

Swim the narrowest section known as the Silfra Big Crack, following the fissure as it widens into Silfra Hall. Gaze through the waters into Thingvallavatn Lake before entering the deep Silfra Cathedral. Float over the boulders here before finishing in stunning Silfra Lagoon.

Afterward, change out of your dry suit, and warm up with hot chocolate and cookies before your return transfer and drop-off at the Reykjavik start point.

Don’t psych yourself out if the weather is cold. This is an amazing experience and even in the winter is warmer than expected. The views are incredible and the guides great. Jake was awesome. Pictures are once in a lifetime!
A real sense of achievement when you finish the cold water swim of the Silfra Rift
Alastair_O, Mar 2023
The weather was unusually cold and it was a struggle to get through all the preparation without losing your nerve. Our team coach, Sebastian, took great care to ensure we were all properly kitted up and fully briefed on technique and did a great job of supporting and reassuring each one of us. In fact, it was relief to get into the water even though it was only 2degC and most of us actually warmed up during the swim. The views of the rift and the experience of swimming in such cold water were definitely worth it and we came away with a great sense of achievement. Overall a very professional set up with good quality equipment and slick organisation.
Unforgettable, fun, safe time snorkeling

This experience was the most unforgettable for me in Iceland; not just because of the convenient pickup/drop off service, but also because the tour guide David and the experience were amazing! David was a super fun guide and ensured everyone’s safety during the snorkeling tour, and as for the view of Silfra it was stunning- it was freezing but we’ll worth it, afterwards we got hot chocolate/crackers. I recommend purchasing the pictures as well, they came out super cool! 100% recommend to anyone considering doing this activity :) would do it again in a heartbeat!
Fun time with fun professionals! This is a MUST in Iceland!

Jessica and the team at Dive.IS were amazing! Never would have thought snorkelling in winter in Iceland would be a good idea… though so glad I did! One of the most amazing and beautiful experiences! Top shelf and highly recommended anyone travelling to Iceland to enjoy this adventure.

Jennifer took us out on our trip and she was great. Jennifer was happy to answer any questions we had and was very informative. Jennifer and the team were all very friendly and made the experience lovely. Me and my fiancé were worried about the cold but it wasn't bad at all and was well worth this once in a lifetime experience, it was breathtaking. If you're considering doing this DO IT
A magically cold experience
Alexia_H, Feb 2023

World all its own
Patricia_C, Feb 2023
Winter time in Iceland is going to be cold by if you want something totally cool this activity is a must do! All of our concerns about the cold temps and poor weather conditions made us think we’d never be able to enjoy the beautiful underwater fissure. None of it was true. We were over the moon with the incredible beauty and other worldly vastness we experienced.
Snorkelling between two continental plates
David_P, Jan 2023
Had a great time throughout the day. Our guide Henry was fantastic from start to finish. The snorkelling views were flawless and a sight you have to see. The kit provided definitely work and kept the chills away on a -18 day. 100% recommended!
Definitely worth doing

Fantastic well organised excursion. Was apprehensive snorkeling in January but our guide was fabulous, put us at ease the whole way through. Throughly enjoyed the experience. Once in a life time event.
Exhilarating Experience
Kristin, Jan 2023
This was an incredible experience. Clear water, beautiful colours, a slight current to pull you along. It was winter, and sub-zero temperatures during the week with snow. The water was warmer than outside and once you get in, there is a cool sensation, but it was absolutely fine with all the gear. Sebastian, our guide, did a great job checking for safety, guiding us, briefing us on what to expect and taking photos. The cookies & hot chocolate afterwards is a welcome extra. The pick-up and drop-off were very efficient/pleasant, in a mini bus. They even adapted the route with a last-minute change I requested the day before when I realised there might be a closer pick-up point. The team are all very pleasant, kind people. Based on several observations, I would recommend that if you are nervous, have questions or haven't done snorkelling before, make sure you say something "before" the dive, either during the safety briefing or one to one with the guide. You will get practical advice and the guide will know to keep an eye on you. This activity is accessible to everyone, but you will have an improved experience if you can communicate your level and concerns with the guide. My other tip is... wear 2 pairs of warm socks (I wore 1!).
First time snorkeling

Good experience with Mark to do the snorkeling. I felt really stressed and Mark encourage, help and support me a lot. Good for beginners.
Once in a lifetime experience!
AdrianneC_B, Dec 2022
Pick up was early, but by the time we arrived and got geared up, the sun had risen. The changing van was sufficient. Sebastian was patient and kind with us. The activity itself was quite exhilarating. The water temperature was 34 F degrees; the air was 17 F degrees, with gusts—it was warmer in the water! Very clear water. So glad we did it. Bring long underwear/thermals, and you’ll be fine!
Wonderful time

Snorkel of a lifetime
Grant_A, Nov 2022
We had an amazing experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. He did an excellent safety briefing before the dive and made sure everyone was set before we entered the water. The snorkel did not disappoint. A truly unique experience that we will treasure for a lifetime.
