Amazing experience! Our trip was delayed about 1/2 hour due to new snow fall which made it even better. The staff was great and the views on the glacier we’re spectacular!

Best birthday ever

The meeting place was spectacular, the tour guides were fantastic, friendly and helpful, very safe and lots of fun! Travelling to the glacier is like being on another planet. Not to be missed!

Hello David, Thank you so much for this positive review! We are glad you hear that you had a memorable experience
It's not meet my expectation
King_L, Feb 2023
Long drive up to the mountain (1hr), and 30mins wait for the other group. Actual driving the snowmobile less than 30mins and just follow the line. It's not exciting. Spent two and half hours on shuttle bus for that less than 30mins drive the snowmobile.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your snowmobile tour with us. We understand that the drive up to the mountain can be long, and we do our best to ensure that our customers are informed about this beforehand. Regarding the 30-minute wait for the other group, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and will take steps to ensure that this does not happen in the future. We are sorry to hear that you found the actual snowmobiling experience to be less exciting. We strive to provide our customers with an exciting and memorable experience and will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to improve our services. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve our services. We hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in Iceland and that you will give us another opportunity to show you the true Mountaineers of Iceland experience in the future.
Be VERY prepared for the cold and the amount of time NOT riding a snowmobile involved here!

Riding a snowmobile on a glacier sounds like adrenaline rush fun -- some of my group (age ranges 12 to 55) loved it (those in their 20's mostly), most of us (including me) would have passed in retrospect because of these reasons: (1) What the ads for this don't tell you is that there is a LOT of riding in a bus. It takes 2 hours to get there from Reykjavik, then you board the snowmobile operator's bus and ride it another hour to the place where you get your suit, helmet, gloves, etc., then you get BACK on the bus and ride it another 1/2 hour to the place where the snowmobiles are located. So by the time you get to the snowmobiles, you have ridden in a car or bus for 3-1/2 hours ONE WAY. The snowmobile riding itself is less than a full hour. (2) It's so much colder than you are probably expecting. Their gloves aren't that fantastic (I should have kept my own on), and your fingers may freeze past the point of pain, to the point where you aren't sure you won't lose them to frostbite. More than 24 hours later, my fingertips are literally still numb! My 15yo was in tears most of the ride because of the pain. (3) I've ridden snowmobiles before, and these are not easy to maneuver. It takes a lot of strength and effort to get them to turn and the entire ride is lots of turning back and forth and back and forth over and over. It was exhausting and finally we just hung back in the back and shot straight through all the turns to catch up to everyone. I will say that the vistas out there are beautiful, and the guides were great at shepherding all of us slowpokes at the back to make sure we didn't get lost. All of the Mountaineer staff were very friendly and kind.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for sharing your experience on our snowmobile tour. I am sorry to hear that you did not fully enjoy the tour and that you experienced discomfort due to the cold. It's been exceptionally cold lately, and there is less snow than usual. This means that a longer time is spent driving to and from the glacier than usual. December and January are the coldest months in Iceland but the scenery is all the more beautiful when it's freezing and still.
Fun time
Tracey_C, Dec 2022
It was fun. But too many people. Will do a smaller group next time. But there actual snowmobiling was fun.
Best experience
Andrea_M, Dec 2022
Amazing scenery, friendly staff. The best experience we've had in Iceland. It was absolutely breathtaking, the sunset over the glacier
fun fun fun,

It's a great experience and all who get to visit Iceland should do this. Great value for money. Very organized office with great equipment.

Exciting, efficient outing
Sai_R, Dec 2022
Everything took place as planned and the place where we did the snow-mobiling was vast and beautiful. The crew is very skilled and professional. They give you very good overalls, helmet and gloves. You don't need to wear big parkas etc. You can leave that in your car.

It’s a fun adventure tour, not your X Games tryout
Amber_E, Nov 2022
Been thinking on this for a few days. First off, everyone who complains in their reviews about “boo hoo, we only got to ride in a straight line and not go very fast, waaaaahhhh” get over it. This is not a tryout for the X Games snowmobile cross, for Pete’s sake. It’s an adventure to go ride on a freaking ancient glacier. And we went faster & took more turns than I was comfortable with so get over yourselves. On the other hand, the super hero was CRAMMED full of people, and you’re bundled up in so many layers that a claustrophobic person would probably crawl out of their skin on the ride up. And I kept thanking my lucky stars that I didn’t need to pee cause it would’ve been problematic. If you can’t hold it for a few hours, don’t go. 😂 Was it worth it? Yes. Was it the best thing we did in Iceland? No. But the guides were nice in the 5 seconds we had contact with them, and kept everyone safe. I was glad we only rode for an hour cause it was icy (no new snow or powder due to global warming, sad face…) so it was scary and I kept thinking we’d tip over. Any longer and I might’ve asked to hop off tbh. But it was a cool experience and I’m glad we did it. My husband absolutely loved it.

Go snowmobiling with a smaller group!
Christopher_M, Nov 2022
It was our first time snowmobiling so that was cool. However the group was too large and the driving was tightly controlled and slow. The vehicle to take us to the glacier was too crowded with no room to move for an hour ride. Add that the inside of the truck dripped on you the whole time and had dirty windows that you couldn’t even see the scenery through and I have to say that part was fairly miserable. My recommendation would be to find a provider that offers a smaller group!
amazing!
Abigail_W, Nov 2022
This experience was the highlight of our trip to iceland! so much fun, and our guides were amazing, especially Nate who was so friendly, funny and answered all of our questions. However, right at the end i was made to feel really bad for getting my foot stuck in the snow suit by a different man in the changing area, telling me the next customers would be mad because i was ‘wiping the floor’ with the snowsuit instead of helping me and seeing that i was struggling with it. As someone with anxiety these kind of comments are quite upsetting and did put a dampener on an otherwise amazing trip! Still a 5* experience for everything else though :)

Thank you for your 5-star review. I am so sorry for the way our staff treated you this is not what we want our staff to treat our customers. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour despite what happened at the end.
Glacier views worth it
Charlotte_S, Nov 2022
Beautiful views. Snowsuits kept us very warm. Only complaint is single file very almost painfully slow snowmobile ride.

Fun experience
Charles_F, Oct 2022
Great time and a fun ride. Guides were very nice. Beautiful scenery. Would try it again. Make sure you have enough time, entire experience took 4+ hours with travel to and from the glacier and time for for wardrobe changes.

Great fun and amazing experience for the whole family
Patricia_C, Oct 2022
Amazing experience on top of the 2nd largest ice cap in Europe. The guides are great at explaining everything and keeping everyone safe. Perhaps would have been nicer to have a smaller group but understand that their overheads must be substantial so need to make it viable. We were lucky with the weather, it was beautiful up there, very peaceful!
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Thank you for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed the tour. Small groups are always more fun, we try not to have the groups so big that it ruins the experience.
Must Do!

Such an awesome time! would do it all over again, great experience. The tour was so much fun the guys really show you how to navigate the snowmobile.
Great views of the glacier!
Rodrigo_P, Aug 2022
Very well organized, provided us with gloves, helmet and warm / waterproof overalls. Check weather before you book, but we had a wonderful time on the glacier. Took some of the most memorable photos of the trip.
Snow mobile a glacier
Heather_C, Aug 2022
Fun day experiencing riding a snow mobile for the first time. Very well organized. Beautiful view from the glacier. Good safety measures.
Great Adventure
ssusco, Aug 2022
We rented a car in Reykjavik and drove about 1.5 hours to the meeting place in Gullfoss. We met the monster bus, rode up to a midway house (30 mins) to gear up, then another 15 minutes to the glacier. About an hour on snowmobiles including a stop at halfway point for photos and driver switch. We were a group of four that all enjoyed the adventure. Snowmobiles relatively easy to control.
Awesome!!!
