What To Expect

After pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, travel by private vehicle to Iceland’s craggy south coast, one of the country's most scenic areas.

On route, hear about the region’s geography and absorb the views over lava plains, glacier-topped volcanoes and rocky black landscapes. Let your guide know if there’s anything you want to see more or less of: your tour is private, so the itinerary can be tailored to suit your personal preferences.

Stop at the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, set against the backdrop of the glacier-topped Eyjafjallajökull volcano; and pay a visit to the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Center, a museum charting Eyjafjallajökull’s infamous 2010 eruption.

View Skógafoss, another of Iceland’s stunning waterfalls, and then head for the nearby Skógar Folk Museum, housed in a traditional, turf-roofed building. Stroll around to see the antique tools, handicrafts and archives, and gain fascinating insight into the history and cultural heritage of Iceland’s south.

Next, continue to the quad bike station near the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Don the supplied helmet and coveralls, and after a safety briefing and instructions, settle on your rugged 4-wheeler and begin your shared 2-hour tour.

Riding in a convoy behind a guide, splash through several small rivers, and speed across lava fields under the dormant volcano Katla. Stop at a stunning black beach to admire awesome views up to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and along the coast to the Dyrhólaey pensinsula, and then travel toward the famous Sólheimasandur aircraft wreck, the remnants of a plane that crashed in 1973.

Continue to the River Jökulsá, and then rev your engine to climb mountain slopes before descending back to the quad base, where your ride concludes.

After your quad ride, return to your private vehicle, and admire more of the south’s lunar-like landscapes on route back to Reykjavik. Your tour concludes with a hotel drop-off.
