What To Expect
Begin your day trip with a pickup from your Reykjavik hotel or a bus terminal in the city. Then, set off on your Golden Circle tour by air-conditioned vehicle while learning about Iceland’s geology and history.
Stop to take in the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall. This double-tier fall crashes 105 feet (32 meters) into a rock gorge, and begs to be captured on camera.
Head into the lunar-like landscapes of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. View the geological rift where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet, and see Iceland’s age-old parliamentary site — the Althing. It was here in 930 AD that the country’s, and the world’s, first parliament assembled, and continued to convene until the late 18th century.
Visit the Geysir geothermal area, home to hot springs, streams and waterspouts. Stroll around the bubbling pools and watch the famous Strokkur geyser. This towering geyser shoots water high in the sky every six minutes or so, and makes an unforgettable sight.
Lastly, travel on to the Fontana spa and wellness center, where pools and steam baths have been built above natural hot springs beside Lake Laugarvatn. The original sauna was constructed in the 1920s and was orginally little more than a shack set above the springs.
Enjoy free time here for an optional bathe in the naturally heated pools and steam cabins. Alternatively, relax over a coffee (own expense) at the café or enjoy the lake views from the rooftop area.
Then, savor some traditional Icelandic rye bread slow-baked in the natural hot springs. Watch as the bread is dug from the ground, and sample a slice slathered in butter.
Later, return to Reykjavik where your tour ends at the start point; your hotel or the bus terminal.
Please note: guests are advised to bring swimwear and a towel for their visit to Fontana. Swimwear and towels can also be rented (own expense) on site.

We loved this tour! A really great way to see a lot of things in a day. It was a small minbus, which we preferred. We visited the National Park, Geysir and Gullfoss before heading to the Fortuna Spa, for a well deserved dip in the geothermal pools. Our guide Dylan, was the best tour guide we've ever had. He was interesting, engaging and clearly passionate about his country. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Awesome day

Our guide B-G was awesome. Nothing was too much trouble for him. This trip was the highlight of our stay.
B-G was so passionate about his country and so informative.
We were in a small group in a mini bus which made it more personal.
The stops at the sights were timely and B-G gave lots of helpful
Information at each stop.
The Fontana Spa was a great way to relax at the end of the tour.
What an experience and what a guide! Thank you so much B-G!
Superb day and service.

The trip was well organised with clear schedule times and helpful service.
The initial walk to the pick up point from the city centre took around 18 minutes but the location was very easy to find.
The staff at the check in desk were friendly and helpful.
Our driver put us at ease and was friendly and provided useful tour information throughout.
The tour was very interesting and tge stop at the Fontana spa at the end was amazing.
You don’t have to take part in the bakery demonstration if you don’t want to and can head straight for the spa to maximise time relaxing.
The spa is clean with body wash etc available and the changing rooms are well stocked and very clean with great facilities.
The spa was a great experience and the whole day was an amazing experience.
Amazing

Traveling in a small group. Good experience to explore the geyser and the spa plus baking the rye bread. Weather and the scenery were good to allow us to take nice photos
Lovely tour of Waterfalls and Wellness Center
Rebecca_S, Jun 2022
The Fontana wellness center was wonderful! Would recommend this be moved to the end of the tour instead of right before Thingevellir national park.
Great guide Regina during the morning portion had a lot of information. Margaret was also a good guide for the afternoon.
Nice buses and plenty of stops for clean bathrooms.
A perfect day in Iceland

We loved the primary destinations - Gullfoss and the Geysir was especially amazing. Also really enjoyed the extra stop at the Tomato farm - words can’t do it justice, but make sure you have a Bloody Mary and/or a bowl of Tomato soup - it is the absolute best I have ever had, anywhere. The mid afternoon stop at the Fontana spa was perfect - enjoyed all the pools, the cold lake plunge and the Hot sand baked Rye bread with smoked trout. A truly memorable day.
Excellent choice of a trip and it a must !!

Wonderful day trip!
Onyxmoon_S, Nov 2021
This was such a wonderful trip! Our guide was fantastic and every stop was so lovely. The spa at Fontana was incredible, very clean, and very relaxing. The sight seeing stops were absolutely gorgeous despite the cloudy weather. The minibus was clean and very comfortable. We had an almost full group (18 people, I believe) and each stop had plenty of time to wander around and see things, as well as multiple opportunities for eating and some souvenir shopping. This tour was a great trip and so worth the money!

The bread is very good. We had a really lovely tour guide and group for the morning portion of the tour, but since you get dropped off at the spa in the middle of it, you get picked up by a different group. The guide and the group for the afternoon portion were fine, though not as engaging. It might have been better to do the Golden Circle and the Geothermal Spa separate from each other.

Very well organized trip, comfortable bus, interesting facts presented by our guide, and the combination of sightseeing with a visit to a geothermal bath was amazing! The bread baked in the ground was soo yummy!

Run by Reykjavik Excursions, this was a fine-tuned experience with friendly and knowledgeable guide. We would suggest that anybody booking a golden circle trip choose one with a further experience added on as the time-keeping works really well and there wasn't time to get bored!

The tour was pretty much what I had expected. The bus was comfortable, the guide was informative, and the sites we visited were beautiful. One suggestion, would be too alot more time at the shopping location.

Lillian S, Jan 2017
Booked this trip a couple of days before we headed off to Iceland. We soon found out that it's cheaper to book before you go rather than wait until you arrive in Iceland and then book. We were really lucky as the weather was lovely the day we went on our tour. Although it's dark until 11am it didn't spoil the trip at all. We were picked up from our hotel by shuttle bus and transferred to a coach at the bus station downtown. Our tour guide and driver were great and we even got a song from our driver at the end of the day. We stopped off at a wool shop as it was still dark and we thought the prices there were good. Even if you don't buy anything, it's still good to have a look around. We then headed off for the National Park which was awesome and the sun was just rising and we got some amazing photos. After this we headed off to Strokkur geyser and had lunch at the restaurant there. The soup and bread was lovely. Burger and chips are on offer but we didn't think they were that nice. The geyser area is great for photo shots although it was really windy and freezing cold so we didn't stay there too long. After this we headed off to Gulfoss waterfall which was amazing. We spent about 45 minutes there which was ample time to take photos. There is a nice gift shop which is a little expensive but which was great to have a look around and keep warm. Our final stop was the Fontana spa and we were really glad we went for this option as it was the highlight of the trip. The spa pools were lovely and hot and so relaxing. We were glad they are not that big so it makes for a nice experience not too crowded. You could see right across the lake and we had such gorgeous weather it really made it special. The hot bread and butter was scrumptious. As it was my husband's birthday we treated ourselves to 2 slices of gateaux which was delicious. All in all we had a fantastic day, met some lovely people and would recommend our tour guide and driver highly. Good value for money.
