Overview

 While most people don't associate Iceland with snorkeling, the cool Nordic country actually offers plenty of underwater marvels -- you'll just need a wetsuit. With this experience, a professional guide will take you to Silfra, a fissure between North America and Europe in Thingvellir National Park that marks where the two continental plates are slowly drifting apart. You and your group will get a chance to spend around 40 minutes in the water before heading back to shore.

    Park at “Thingvellir P5” & walk 400m back along the road until you reach a smaller car park with all the snorkel & dive vans. Please be there, ready to meet your guide 15 min before your tour is due to begin. Stick to main roads & dont take any short cuts to Silfra, especially in winter.

  • No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • All participants must know how to swim and be comfortable in water
  • All participants must be able to communicate in English
  • Bring a swimsuit and towel.
  • Minimum age is 12 years, please reach out regarding younger participants & Participants over the age of 65 need to get a physicians approval
  • Be at minimum 145cm (4’9) tall / maximum 200cm (6’7) tall, and be at minimum 45kg (99 lbs) / maximum 120kg (264 lbs)
  • Don't wear glasses, instead bring contact lenses or your own prescription mask (if you have one)
  • We recommend bringing warm clothes to wear after the snorkeling
  • Please dress according to weather - no heals or jeans
  • All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. Please contact local operator in order to request the form via email.
  • All participants heights, weights and age must be provided to local operator. If you do not provide at time of booking, please contact supplier immediately after booking to provide this information
  • Note: Each guide can assist one group of up to six participants at a time. Up to three different groups can be present during this activity.
  • Most travelers can participate

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Amazing experience

Booked wetsuit by accident and the team were kind enough to change us to drysuits. Getting ready for the dive, everyone was anticipating that the water would be colder than getting suited up. Water was actually warmer and the really cold part was getting out of the water and changing out of the drysuit. Not a drop of water came into the drysuit, so thanks to Bjarni, Doris and Gretar for keeping us dry. All-in-all an amazing experience that we would warmly (no pun intended) recommend to anyone looking for a breathtaking experience.

Great experience! Bring warm, tight clothes if you go in the winter. You’ll wear them under your dry suit.

This was something I’m really glad I did. Yes, it was cold and strange and uncomfortable at times, but when else are you going to snorkel between continents?

It was very intense driving there because our GPS started taking us in circles. Finally we decided to follow one of the vans with the tour guide name on it. There wasn't that many signs leading us to the right destination either. I was so relieved when we finally arrived and was warmly greeted by Arturo. I can honestly say I was getting anxiety at first but thanks to Arturo he made the experience smoothly and fun. Even though other groups before hand had some issues wich he had to assist them he didn't take the focus of our group. Very attentive and professional. I highly recommend this beautiful experience especially if you get a guide like Arturo.

Be ready to be COLD if doing this in Winter. That being said, me experience was AMAZING!! My guide Arturo was very professional and funny and the views under the water were breathtaking. It was well worth the discomfort. The day we went was extremely cold and windy. The coldest part was honestly the getting ready part because of all the standing around and putting on of equipment. Once you get in the water you warm up!! My dry suit leaked and I ended up getting wet, which was also cold coming out of the water, but it was still an amazing experience! We’ll worth the cold, I didn’t want to leave the water when the time came up. If you have a good tolerance for cold, and are prepared for the fact that they can’t guarantee you staying dry (but they absolutely do their best to do so!) then this is definitely a MUST do adventure. I also recommend bringing an underwater camera or GoPro with you.

It just as incredible. The water is unbelievably clear and also, it has to be said, so bloody cold. Thankfully the weren’t wetsuits but dry ones! Our guides Eyal and Dori were amazing and super funny!

Parking instructions and meet up points were easy to find. Our guide Chico was helpful and knowledgeable in every way possible throughout the whole experience. Would recommend the dry suit because of how cold the water is. 1000% would go snorkeling again when I come back to Iceland.

A definite MUST DO! It was a fantastic experience. Chico, Miguel, and Diego at Adventure Vikings were professional and fun. We initially signed up for the wetsuit option, but were able to change to the drysuit option with no problem. The GoPro photos taken were available to us within a few days (as promised). I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Diego was our guide, and was AWESOME. It was out of this world. Definitely worth planning to do if you can. Be ready for the COLD. Bring your wool socks and a strong will. The views were stunning, once in a lifetime experience. It looked Like swimming in a piece of stained glass.

One of my favorite parts of our trip to Iceland! The underwater views were absolutely amazing and it was so relaxing once we got in the water. The dry suit was a bit constricting, but kept us in the glacial water. Miguel was an amazing tour guide!!

Tom was an amazing guide! There is a bit of setup to get into the suit but it’s well worth it! It does take a little effort while in the water but for the majority of the snorkel the current flows you along.
