Traveler Tips

We would definitely recommend paying for the highest category for the hotels; it is worth it.
The itinerary is good overall for first timers especially to get the best of the places in Northern Italy.

Great and affordable way to see most famous sites in sunny Italy
Alexander_F, Jul 2022
This was a great way to see most famous sites in Italy, well organized and relatively affordable. We also signed up for 2 out of 3 optional trips: Venice by night and Gondola ride (absolute must). Do you own research and pick activities for your free time, you can rest your feet later :) there's a lot of walking, so pack comfortable shoes, cloths that cover knees and shoulders for visiting churches, and sunscreen. Taking one star off for 3 reasons: 1. We were expecting on-board bathroom on the bus, didn't get it; on-board wi-fi and USB chargers worked well enough and there were plenty of stops, but still would've been nice to have that option. 2. Hotels were decent, but too far from the center of the cities, especially the one in Venice, because it wasn't really in Venice. We would've settled for a smaller room but within the city limits, would've been much better option for exploring Venice instead of spending time commuting in and out of it. 3. Included meals were mostly ok, some good and some not so good, like an awful desert in the hotel near Venice. The idea is to feed tired tourists fast and plenty and send them on their way, so expect sustenance, not culinary fireworks. Luckily there are multiple resources available on where to find a great meal in each region of Italy, like Google maps, various travel blogs and TV shows, so please use them. Nicky our tour director had a very stressful job of keeping the group together, on schedule and well informed, she did it well, answered all my questions, and I had many. I forgot a bag on the bus, contacted her and she responded without hesitation, so I got it back the next day. That's good service, thank you Nicky and Carrani tours! Special note about our driver Luigi. Talk about the man who respects his job and it shows! Elegantly dressed and groomed, clean bus, he was never late, very friendly, always helped with luggage and most importantly, safe and confident driver, which is not an easy job especially in Italy. Mille Grazie, Luigi! Overall, this trip was a very good value for a modest budget, a hassle free, safe way to move around the country, with decent accommodations, which enabled us to visit all the remarkable sites and experience the magic of Italy.
Love it!

The tour went to so many wonderful places! The tour guide was absolutely amazing! She was very knowledgeable and helpful. There were additional charges for some extra activities but they were reasonably priced and worth it!

We had an awesome time on this trip. Highly recommend it. Patrizia was very knowledgable and friendly. We enjoyed her commentary and her sense of humour.
Excellent Trip

I really enjoyed this trip, it gives you an all around with all these different stops. Our tour guide Clara and driver Gigi were awesome, they our life easier and took care of our group all the time.
Fantastic Experience for single travelers with limited time...Thanks to Sabrina & Co!

Following my sister's wedding in Sardinia, Italy this September (hotel Su Gologne is highly recommended, BTW!), I found myself with some (albeit not a lot of) extra time on my hands and a hankering to see more of Italy...What to do? Though I didn't have enough time (or cardiovascular endurance) to take a cycling tour of Italy like I wanted to, I was fortunate to stumble onto this 5-day tour of Italy, which fit my schedule almost perfectly. The tour offers visits to many of the major sites of Northern Italy in the comfort of an air-conditioned bus, albeit one with shaky wi-fi at times (I'd recommend getting SIM card through Orange - only $65 Canadian for a ridiculous 20GB of Data). Sure, with such a short timeframe, it's not easy to fully enjoy all the sites on offer (especially Rome and Venice - well worth a repeat visit, despite being overcrowded with tourists like us), but this is where a good tour guide comes in - and boy did we get a good one! Sabrina, our chief tour guide was instrumental in not only smoothly coordinating the tour - no mean feat given the number of tour options, passenger requests, wandering/lost passengers, inevitable miscommunications, etc. etc.) but also in helping us to extract the maximum value out of our experiences - with helpful recommendations and tips for obtaining the best experiences given time and budget constraints (e.g., best restaurants, can't-miss sights and unique shopping experiences) at each stop. To be sure, this is what one would expect from a good tour guide, but Sabrina's knowledge and experience went beyond those of a typical guide's to include suggestions for less touristy experiences (especially in Venice), that was a welcome relief for me, at least! Sabrina and her team coordinated all this in 3 languages (and counting!) whilst remaining light, fun and accessible while calmly dealing with hair-raising events (e.g., missing, lost or late passengers; "pressing" passenger requests). This serene attitude fostered a sense of community among the passengers on our bus and helped us to bond and make friends with each other. As a solo traveler, I really appreciated this. Lastly, I loved the fact that Sabrina and Co. remained so knowledgeable about current/trends events in Italy (e.g., the impact of increased tourism on the lives of native Venetians). So, for you Reddit fans out there: TLDR: Great overview tour of Northern Italy. Ask for Sabrina!
5-Day Best of Italy Trip

I loved this. I never would have been able to see and do all the wonderful things if I planned this on my own. The accommodations and selected restaurants were great choices with good food. Bus driver (Antonio) was awesome and our guide made sure we knew exactly where to be when. I highly recommend if you want to see a lot in a short period of time.
A well-planned trip to see the best of the Northern Italy!
Kit_C, Sep 2019
I recently completed this tour with Carrani Tours (English languages) on 11th September 2019. Our tour guide, Patrizia was professional, lovely and funny. She is an experienced tour guide and took care of us well. Antonio, the bus driver was nice and worked very hard to get all of our luggages in and out from the bus. The itinerary is good overall for first timers especially to get the best of the places in Northern Italy. The only one big comment I want to emphasize here is Viator DID NOT state clearly that some of the tours to places have additional costs. Here's the options that you will need to pay extra, if you decide to join, which I believe, most of us will: 1) Florentine Museum - Academy Galley - guided tour - EUR 34 2) Pisa - to see the Leaning Tower - EUR 45 3) Venice tour at night - EUR 25 4) Venice - Gondola ride - EUR 35 I took all the options and Gondola ride is the best highlight. Totally worth the experience! Please be advised that most of us were staying in Mestre, rather than in Venice itself (if you book via Viator here). However, the hotel was nice and the dinner was delicious.
We enjoyed our time in Italy! The 5-Day tour was a great way to see the major sites!

We were very happy with our 5-Day Italy tour! We saw so many places that we never would have been able to see on our own in such a short amount of time! Our guide, Carlos, was amazing! He was very accommodating to each individual in the group. He was informative and knew a lot about the places we visited. We had plenty of time to explore, but he helped guide us into places where he thought we would get the most out of our free time. The meals were great. Our hotels were nice. We would definitely recommend paying for the highest category for the hotels; it is worth it. This tour is not for the weak! And it is a tour with a group! It is a busy tour which explores a lot of area in a short amount of time. Please take that into consideration when booking. You have to be flexible and able to keep up with a group.
Great Introduction to Italy
Pioneer01115940994, May 2019
We took this tour because it was our first trip to Italy and included a lot of the places we were told to visit by friends who were familiar with Italy. Our tour guide was Mirjam and she was great! She was cheerful, knowledgeable and able to communicate clearly with us.Our tour was in English but she also spoke other languages . We especially enjoyed walking through the towns of Assisi and Montepulciano, where the buildings are hundreds of years old and built on hills. In Venice we went to a glass making factory, took an optional gondola ride and optional Venice by Night tour - all great!!. Everywhere you went there was something to see and appreciate the buildings, sculptures, paintings, churches, culture and food. We enjoyed everyday on tour and looked forward to what we would see and experience the next day. We booked our tour for the last week of April and 1st week of May. We didn't know May 1 was a holiday in Italy (labour day) so in some places it had a lot of people. We highly recommend this tour as a great introduction to Italy.
Wonderful Vacation!
Richard_E, Mar 2019
We have used Viator previously for European tours and have been very happy with them. This trip was no exception. Let me begin by saying our tour guide, Clara from Rome was outstanding and everyone on the trip loved her. She was like a mother hen to all of us, making sure every detail was covered in such a warm caring way. We got to see a lot in 5 days and one suggestion I would make is if they offer an upgrade package for hotels, I would definitely take it. The hotels are all nice but we took the upgrade based on other reviews and it was so worth it. Part of our group was housed in a hotel on the mainland in Venice and the upgraded group was housed on a beautiful hotel right on the island that was located directly on the canal. We could walk to everything and were in the center of the activated whereas the other group had to take a bus and then a boat to get to the island. Thank you Viator for the option, we would definitely do it again! We continue to trust in Viator for a wonderful vacation experience!

We were 4 adults and very happy we took the tour, covered a lot without hassle to move from one city to the other. Our guide Sabrina was amazing. She was very friendly and knowledgeable of all the history as well of local shops/restaurants that allow us to taste all local cuisine. I had a mobility limitation and before every stop she always come and talk to me, give me details of the activity and make sure I will be able to make it back to the buss, including arranging taxi for us. This tour is also perfect for people never been to Italy and want to make a quick visit then decide what region they will like to come back and explore in more details.
Highly recommend taking this tour...
CASMIRA F, Jun 2018
Highly recommend taking this tour. Clara our guide was amazing and very friendly. Thanks to Stephano who is a great driver brought us safely back to Rome. The best part of this tour was that we met so many friendly people from Australia, Canada, Lebanon and US. You require good walking / comfy shoes as there is plenty of walking to do. All the cities were just beautiful and quaint especially Assisi and Montepulciano. 'The only downside was the cost of the Gondola ride which was a rip off for Euros 35 pp. 4 of us went locally and joined 2 students on the Gondola and we ended paying Euros 88 for 6 of us. I would recommend anyone going on this tour, to do the Gondola ride on your own.

Great tour guide and bus driver. This was the best way to pack a lot of the Italian sites into a short amount of time. The accommodations were lovely but the included meals left much to be desired.

Covered beautiful places you won t be able to do on your own / only negative was the hotel in Venice ,which we did not like , the room was sooooo hot and uncomfortable, EVEN PAID EXTRA FOR AN UPGRADE . I hope this hotel WILL BE remove from their list. When I travelled in March 2017 w/ my daughter we got a nice hotel in Venice w/ an upgrade, so I TOOK THE SAME TOUR W/ MY SON but no luck this time.
Antonio driver and Clara tour guide...
NATALIA A, Nov 2017
Antonio driver and Clara tour guide are great people. Very organized with lots of information of top things to see and do. What makes this tour great, is you dont have to worry about driving yourself and possibly getting lost to find your destinations. You will visit approximately 13 cities in 5 days and four nights. Clara always has a time and a meeting spot for those of us that want to venture off away from the big group. With a group of 43 people, you may not get to see everything you want if you stay with the group. Lots of talking and history which is good for people that want to listen. For us, we can google the information as we venture off and see the beauties of Italy. If you have a good sense of direction, you wont get lost! The only complaint is the hotel location in Florence is approximately a 2 mile walk away from everything. For those of you that are not in shape or cant walk long distance, understand that not all locations are close to everything. This is a heavy waking tour which we walked about 4-8 miles daily. Helpful tips for you to prepare ahead of time: - Best time to visit Italy in the Fall would be October. The weather is perfect, not many kids and your not sweaty. When we travel North to Venice, a light jacket will be needed for the day/night. Dont wear skirts and then complain your cold in Venice when your on an Island. Its October and the north is a little chilly. - There are cold water bottles on the bus that cost 1 Euro each. We would buy a 12 pack of small water bottles from the supermarket and bring with us. Cost is 2 Euros which makes more sense. - Have plenty of small Euros/change on hand. Some places may charge for using the bathroom. - Optional extra excursions will be offered on the bus for Venice. Venice by Night Tour and Gondola Ride. This costs anywhere from 23-45 Euros extra and no credit cards can be used to pay for the optional excursions. - Venice by Night is worth the tour because its less crowded and you will be more familiar with the area for the next day when you get to venture off after your local tour guide finishes the tour. - To enter the many churches/cathedrals there is a church code policy meaning that shoulders and knees must be covered. Ensure you dress appropriately. - Our bus did not have phone charging outlets, so bring extra power charging sources to allow your phone to keep charged all day. The bus does offer free WiFi. - Meals provided are all buffet but they will happily accommodate any special diet needs. In Maestre if not staying in Venice hotel, the hotel food is horrible. Dont waste your time with the buffet. Also, the internet is really bad even if you pay the extra Euros. If you are on the first floor, then there are no issues. - Dinners are late, not until typically 7pm-8pm.
This was an amazing way to see...
xtremeangie, Oct 2017
This was an amazing way to see Italy! We had such a great trip with a group of awesome people. Nicole, our guide, was fantastic! We had one couple that were a little difficult being nice but we didn't let them ruin our trip. DO THE EXTRAS!!! Pisa was amazing as was the Gondola ride. In Venice, if you have the option, upgrade your stay to the Hotel on Venice Island. There were a handful of guest who were very bummed that they didn't do this. If you are looking for a way to see many sites in a short time, this is the trip. Note, there is a lot of walking everyday and the surfaces are not always flat. We traveled with my dad who is 70 so I was always having to watch for uneven surfaces, odd steps, just something to keep in mind.
You better have your walking shoes...
Teresa V, Oct 2017
You better have your walking shoes on because you're going to need them to see all the amazing spots Italy has to offer and that via tour takes you too!!!
We loved the sites visited on this...
Susan K, Oct 2017
We loved the sites visited on this tour, but there were some real downsides. First, our tour guide had no regard for the makeup of the overall group. Some were a little older and couldn't maintain the breakneck pace. And some of the younger people even complained that they were on vacation, not a race. Most of the time this guide would begin the walk before many of the people were even off the bus. In fact, one time she left at least 10 of us behind and over a block down the street, made a turn before we were even off the bus. We were caught in the midst of another tour group and couldn't find her lovely pink umbrella, since she was so far ahead of us, over three blocks. Secondly, the lower priced hotel options were pretty meager and the food was terrible. In Florence, we weren't even close enough to old Florence to walk on our free time. The higher priced options were lovely and very conveniently located. The most annoying and exhausting day of the tour was being left on our own in Venice and told it would be an easy 45 minute walk to return to the bus station. It took us an hour an 1/2 and the streets were not clearly marked. We then had to take a packed city bus on our own to get back to the hotel. I'll think twice before I ever book another Viator tour.
