What To Expect
Make your own way to the Arch of Constantine to meet your guide for your walking tour.
Your entrance ticket allows you to skip the long lines and enter the Colosseum quickly. Hear from your guide how the Colosseum was developed centuries before the advent of modern engineering in AD 70-80, and how it once held as many as 80,000 spectators.
Just outside, you'll marvel at the Arch of Constantine and then continue to learn about the features of the Roman Forum archaeological site and Palatine Hill. Legend says that on the Palatine, Romulus and Remus were kept alive by a female wolf, thus giving Rome its name.
Your tour ends at the Colosseum where you can continue to explore the area on your own.

Take a Colosseum walk and listen to the story
Beth_L, Nov 2022
The best we’ll informed guide. There were only ten of us so we saw some interesting details which a bigger group would not have been able to. I was very impressed with the enormous knowledge our tour guide, Alessio, held on to in his head. Who sat where and the fact that the locals got to claim the carcasses of the dead animals. The colosseum was abandoned for 400 years. So many stories to be told!
A must see experience

We really enjoyed this experience. Weather was awful which made it difficult but that didn’t detract from our lovely experience. However, we struggled to find our guide first thing amongst all other tour guides there until we were told they wore pink.
Decent but maybe not worth it
Iris_P, Oct 2022
Our tour guide was okay. If you’re on a time crunch, it’s probably worth it to do a guided tour since you can get a lot of information faster than walking and reading the descriptions of everything, but I wouldn’t book a tour for this again. Maybe it would be worth it to do a guided tour of the colosseum and spend free time in the Roman forum and palatine, but if you have time, I would purchase skip the line entrance but no guided tour.
Walking amongst the ruins...

Walking amongst the ruins of the Forum and the palatine hill and listening to the guides explanation of life in Roman times.
Hot weather but great guide!!

Alessandra was an amazing guide. Knowledgeable and kind- she especially watched out for an older guest due to the heat by using shaded spots to tell the colosseum history while giving us a sun break
We would highly recommend her….just maybe choose the late spring or early fall to visit Rome. It was HOT in the low-mid 90’s.

We loved this tour, the guide was easy to find and the tour was very well organized. It covered everything we wanted to see and more. I love Viatour, they have always been great from booking to the tour guides. Thanks for allowing us to see so much in a short period of time. The 3 hours just flew by!

Peter P, Sep 2017
Our tour guide really knew her history of the area. She was conscious of our heat/sun and water needs during the tour. She was very courteous and made the tour enjoyable. I had toured the Colosseum area in previous years but never took in or even knew of the Palatine Hill. The history is amazing! Having said this, through no fault of the guide, I expected more of the Colosseum visit based on the description. We really didn't get anything above and beyond what any tour would have given us. so in that respect this wasn't a tour that stood out above any other ones. It didn't help that on the tour date the place was preparing for a concert.

Sehr informativ in großer Gruppe
Mandy_D, May 2019
Die Reiseführerin sprach sehr gut deutsch- sie konnte ohne Pause 3 Stunden über viele tolle Details sprechen. Die Gruppe war jedoch mit 30 Leuten sehr groß und unübersichtlich.
