Great colosseum tour

Fascinating tour of the colosseum. Our tour was initially scheduled for a day later and at a different time slot but (for reasons that were not communicated to us) we were asked to shift our tour time and day. Fortunately it worked with our schedule but we would have been disappointed had it not. We had been the the colosseum before but this tour included the basement and ground level. It was fascinating to hear about all the animals kept their and the inner workings. Our guide was great! Informative without being too boring and kept our 16 and 12 year old boys engaged with details about all the fighting.

While the trip itself got off to a bit of a rocky start as the directions to the starting point weren't as specific as I might have preferred, I overall enjoyed it! It was only me and a pair of women, so it felt very exclusive. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny!

We were fortunate to have a Filipino-italian tour guide. notwithstanding the fact that we could speak in 2 languages plus a lil Italian! BENJI is thorough, patient, knew the best spots to take pictures. He even had an ipad and pictures to help explain everything. We enjoyed this tour and Benji’s company and we learned a lot . it was very memorable He was on time!
Shambles, basic beyond belief, not VIP experience!

Absolute shambles, terrible organisation at meeting point, we found a woman who could hardly speak English and looked so confused. When she confirmed with another tour guide that we were with her she took us over to the colosseum and told us that she would be taking us to the meeting point 4 to join a group. After standing around for about 20 minutes and talking to countless people she just told us to start walking with her through the underground entrance. No formal welcome and introduction and explanation about what was going to happen. Just rush rush to get through. Something 100% had gone wrong and it felt like she was told she would have to take us through as she kept telling us another woman was coming to meet us. Very brief information was given to us when on the underground tour and what ever little information she gave us you could hardly hear or understand what she was saying as she wasn’t fluent. She was very lethargic and did not act like she wanted to be there, especially when we were surrounded by other younger enthusiastic tour guides which we could hear. We were pushed through the underground tour like we were a nuisance to her when we wanted to take a few photos and ask more questions regarding something. The words she continuously said was ‘hurry, hurry. I’ll show you later, hurry hurry follow me’ when we arrived on the floor level again no real detail went in to what she was showing us, just very brief descriptions of what it was and then ‘hurry, follow me’ the worst part was that we could see other groups standing by with their tour guides clearly getting deep explanations regarding there surroundings and other levels of the colosseum. Again she rushed us through the artefacts area and only chose 2 or 3 points to give us a brief explanation regarding it did to her language issues. You could see she was was relieved when she reached the exit and told us that this was the end of tour and she was leaving us. Again she gave us no explanation that we could continue on through the higher levels of the colleseum and see the fantastic views from above and then work down each level to the exit, luckily when she left us we asked another tour guide and they explained the route we could take. You could see she wasn’t very mobile and has issues with her legs as she has to take the lift instead of the stairs, she advised us that she had been doing this for 35 years but we honestly thought it was her first day there with how lost and confused she was at the beginning. This was supposed to be a VIP experience, but it was basic beyond belief! We didn’t get a headset so we could hear our guide clearly. Such a terrible experience and was upsetting after when this was a once in a lifetime visit for us and thats why we paid out a bit more on the VIP experience. It got worse the next day when we had another tour with Viator for the Vatican City tour and you could see the professionalism throughout with the meeting point, introduction and huge enthusiasm and knowledge they gave us through our headsets. This was in a group of 18-20 people and we felt a friendship with the tour guide straightaway. This then really made clear to us how bad the VIP colosseum tour was. I don’t like to speak bad of people I would really suggest you need to investigate who this woman your guide was (Andrea I think her name was) as this has really effected how we look into booking further tours.

This tour was amazing. The tour guide (we didn't get his name) was very knowledgeable and provided interesting facts. The tour ended up being just the 4 of us, so we felt very exclusive! I would highly recommend!
Confusing start, but overall a great experience

Tour company was good about communication prior to meeting. However, Rome & the Colosseum is very crowded. The meeting spot is the same place that every tour company uses, so it was a little bit confusing on initial meeting with the tour company to get tickets. However, once I met with them, they were very nice and helpful. The tour guide was pre-assigned by the Colosseum and was nice and very informative. Aside from the initial confusion, it was a great tour.
Underground Found!

On a summer day, at the height of tourist season, we had moments when we actually felt that we had the Colosseum to ourselves! What a treat it was to be in the underground section of this historic site with our guide, Andrea, bringing each corner and cell to life. Andrea worked very hard to make sure we had access to everything promised and managed to keep my teenage kids interested through her knowledge and passion. I must say, I fully expected to be handed off to one of the Colosseum guides and I was pleasantly surprised to learn we had a guide all to ourselves. This was a great way to tour such an important part of history.

Our tour guide was terrible. Asked her on the way in was there a toilet, she said no! There was! Tour was meant to last 3 hours, it was less than 2 hours, she spent the whole tour on her phone, didn’t tell us anything!

Great tour underneath Colosseum. You get to walk the reconstructed Arena floor and then have as mush time as you want to walk the Colosseum on your own. Guide was good. My only complaint about this tour is that it was too long. A lot of information was repeated multiple times and I think the tour definitely could have been shortened by at least 15-20 minutes. Also, I did not realize when I booked this tour that Viator was not the actual tour company but the website that contracts with various other locations tour companies. I’m sure it’s in the fine print but I didn’t know at first. Finding your actual tour company, getting into the Colosseum and then finding your actual guide (someone different from the person who brings you into the Colosseum and gives you your ticket) was really chaotic for everyone on our tour. Don’t forget your passport - they checked ours at the entrance. Again, it was a little in the long side but I would still recommend this tour.
Average tour but nice to have access to the underground

The tour ran on time and it was very nice to have a skip the line ticket to enter the underground of the Colosseum. I gave it an average rating because the guide was not great. The tour company just arranges tickets to enter then you are handed to an official Colosseum guide inside and that guide was not good. But this said, it was nice to be there.

Rome had a strike with taxi’s that day. We waited an hour for a taxi and we arrived late and missed the tour. We paid for it and did not get refunded. Very upset about this.
Would Not Recommend - Unreliable and Not Professional

This company canceled our underground tour the day before it was scheduled. They then offered us a less desirable arena tour at a different time. Having no choice, we accepted the change. The tour guide was kind but did not seem particularly knowledgeable. Her appearance was a bit dishevelled and the printed photos she used for illustrative purposes were old and wrinkled. Not a very professional operation. If you have a choice, go with someone else.

We visited the Colosseum June 14, 2022. Laura was our guide. She was excellent! Her knowledge and passion of the history in Rome made this an incredible experience. She moved the group at a perfect pace to see everything.
Great tour of the Colosseum

GIovanna was very informative. She showed us photos to illustrate her stories of the colosseum’s rich history. We walked through the underground level which was recently opened. Quite interesting. It was crowded so it was helpful to have used earphones. Giovanna also walked us to the Forum entrance and told us where to go from there. Very helpful.
