What To Expect

  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

I've been to Rome 6 times, and every time I take Hop-On Hop-Off bus tours and every time I discover something new. Unfortunately this time, the tour seemed to have less stops, route was not as I remember from previous times. It was still informative but not as much as I expected. Also for some reason an attendant at bus stop told us to board onto a different company's bus. It was not City Sightseeing Tours. It was still open air double decker bus, so maybe each tour company operates on different routes.

I was most appreciative that this ticket was good for a few days beyond the date on the ticket. It allowed me to pick the following day to use it. This city tour was decent. The stops were decent in proximity to where you wanted to go.

Worst part of the trip

Just plain horrible. Imagine walking up and down the hills in Rome all day covering miles and miles thinking that by the time we end up on the far side of the city we’ll have a ride back to the hotel…….well we didn’t have a ride. Everything was paid in full well in advance for our trip. We get on the bus and the attendant scans the QR code and nothing, no explanation or anything. There’s nothing we could do. Luckily it wasn’t 100 degrees outside but it was 51 and raining. This was by far the worst part of our trip. Go with a different tour bus company if you can… The coliseum was ok but ready the ticket first. Don’t do like we did and go there first. You have to go on the far side of the Roman ruins to get your actual ticket then walk all the way back to get access.

We decided to book the 72 hour ticket. Which gave you the chance to use brown bus and yellow bus. It’s great to get around. With it being low season though the first bus did not turn up until 9:25 both days so don’t book early museum as we just made it to our 10:30 at castle.

Worth it and enjoyable first day in Rome

Enjoyable Entry into Rome, I recommend you do this at the start of your trip, hassle free in booking through Viator and no issues on the day. I recommend hop-off at stops you won't have a separate tour on, also try and listen to the audio guide on the bus as well as through the app. This makes it very interesting. Also recommend that if you hop-off at Spanish steps, just walk down to Trevi fountain (about 5-10min walk) and then hop-on at the Trevi fountain stop.

Confused arrangement & money cheated

The instruction was unclear & confusion. I bought bus tour (48 hrs) & Colosseum and Roman Forum Guided Tour on line. We redeemed vouchers at the termini stop at where staff told us to meet up at stop 5 at where another staff asked us to report to their head office. Then they told us no guide provided and walk 10 mins back to the Corosseum entrance. Waste time on travelling to redeem vouchers & tickets and missed Roma Forum. We bought the skip the line entrance ticket but used normal line. Bad!

The exact address of the meeting point is also indicated, which coincides with stop no. 5. When in Rome, there is more than one bus company

Map for pickup point was too generic. There are 3 tour companies. Two start near the bus & train station which is where we waited. Finally a man from one of the companies walked us around the block and to another street where CitySightseeing bus was. We never would have found it on our own. Next time we will buy tickets when we get there. Buses are good way to see city.

I feel that we weren’t always provided with correct information. The prerecorded narrative didn’t always match the locale. The delay between buses is overly long. Bus needs to come more frequently. However the driver was competent and the host very pleasant.

3 buses were full and passed us. Passengers unable to get off at stops as so busy. Also didn't start til 10.30am. do not waste your money. We wished we'd just taken A taxi as we wasted valuable time waiting for buses

The waiting times were often much longer than the advertised 15 minutes (40 mins at one particular stop) buses from other operators came and went so could not have due to traffic etc. There was no explanation of how to use the audio system and I couldn’t get it to work at all until we were at the third stop. All in all not a great experience I’m afraid.
