What To Expect

A resort town for Rome's rich and famous for over 2,000 years, Tivoli is today a fascinating refuge for anyone interested in history and culture. This guided day trip from Rome transports you to Tivoli on a comfortable air-conditioned bus and deposits you smack in the center of thousands of years of history. 

Take a guided walking tour of Hadrian's Villa, a lavish palace where the Roman emperor officially moved in AD 128. Marvel at the ruins of temples and theaters, swimming pools and steam rooms. With a guide at your side, learn about what daily life at the villa was like nearly 2,000 years ago. 

After touring the ancient estate, indulge in a delicious Roman lunch at a local restaurant and then get acquainted with the opulent Villa d'Este, an erstwhile Benedictine convent that was turned into a Renaissance palace by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia. Wander through the palace's verdant, highly manicured gardens and take delight in the famed Fountain of Neptune. 

After touring the villa, hop back on the bus for the return back to Rome.

Villa Adriana

You’ll meet your guide at a centrally located meeting point in Rome and proceed to Hadrian’s Villa in an air-conditioned coach or minivan for a guided walking tour. The villa belonged to the 2nd-century emperor, Hadrian, and was used as a summer residence. You’ll explore the archaeological ruins of Hadrian’s Villa: its temples, statues, theatres, thermal baths and much more.

Villa d'Este

Next, you’ll proceed to the nearby Villa d'Este where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch (set menu) in a typical local restaurant. Afterwards, you’ll take a walk through the romantic Villa d’Este. This former Benedictine convent is one of the most fascinating villas of the late Renaissance period. You’ll see its famous Fountain of Neptune, admire its stunning gardens and marvel at its impressive waterfalls, pools and numerous fountains. At the end of the day you’ll return to the original departure point in Rome.

This is an all day outdoor walking tour with lunch break, so bring sunscreen and hat!
You have to be able to climb a lot of steps at the Villa d’Este.
But there is one thing of note - be prepared to climb stairs, especially in the Villa D'Este

Great escape from the city

This trip gave us a nice, quiet break from the bustle of Rome. We saw two villas, one ancient and one medieval, and had a delicious lunch. Our tour guide, Diana was lovely and knowledgable!

Breathtaking and beyond the imagination. Make sure you don't leave your camera on the bus during lunch - you might be able to get it before going in to tge Tivoli Gardens....not that a picture could possbly du it justice!

Fountains were spectacular. Grounds were beautiful well worth the trip. Driver was very good (not scary). Definitely would do again; however, the guide’s English was not easy to understand and his facts were scanty. All the other guides we’ve had were amazing (6, so far).

Our tour guide, Carolina. She made her information so easy to follow and understand. It was obvious she loves her job. However, there is a lot of walking and I'd suggest taking water and wearing a hat. But, it is worth it.

Incredible experience. Caroline was a wonderful guide. So much great history. Nice lunch. Be prepared to walk a solid 3 hours. Uneven land, lots of stairs and be sure and wear closed walking shoes. Would definitely recommend.

All of it. The gardens were spectacular as was Hadrians Villa. The Villa d’Este was beautiful . The lunch was simply mediocre.the wine served was awful.

My wife and I took this same tour about 4 rears ago and we learned much more from Karolina. She was just excellent and made the experience a good memory. I highly recommend this tour

Fantastic Tour

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. Hadrian's Villa was beautiful--but a warning: it is VERY hot. And, you will be in the sun and need to walk quite a bit. So, take a hat and some sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes. (I wore Sketcher's sandals and those were fine for me). The Villa d'Este is also very lovely (but still quite a bit of walking with some stairs added in). I didn't expect much from the lunch that came with the tour, but it was very nice. I was happy to see lots of locals eating at the restaurant (it wasn't just a tourist trap). The lunch came with wine, lovely appetizers, and a decent meal. It also came with dessert. I have to say, this tour exceeded my expectations, especially given the price.
