Skip Villa d'este; bus a wreck
Robert_B, Oct 2022
Hadrian's Villa superior to the villa d'este which I would skip if I did it again. also the bus was a wreck as the fan and lights did not work and I had to kick the back door to get it open all the way. The bus needed new springs and the seats did that recline and were worse than airline seats.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Dear Robert, thank you for writing these lines and sorry for the inconvenience about the bus. We'll inform our Product department for internal verification. We're glad you liked Hadrian's Villa, which we also agree is more attractive than Villa d'Este. Both are though worth visiting when in Tivoli, we believe. Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team
As good a half day tour as we’ve had ever taken.
Dennis_E, Oct 2022
The guide Monica was so knowledgeable. She was clear and engaging in both English and German. Villa Adriana is staggering in scope. Hard to believe it really existed. Villa d’Este, especially the gardens, we’re something to behold. We’ve been in Italy for a month and this was a high point.
Unfortunately, the bus...
Dorothy_K, Oct 2022
Unfortunately, the bus was well over an hour late so we did not take the tour. A refund was issued promptly.
Fantastico half day trip
Katherine_B, Sep 2022
This tour was beyond what we expected. We are so happy we choose to do this. We have been a number of times to Rome and we wished to explore beyond rome itself- this was perfect! It was a great blend of history and walking around as well as relaxing coach trip there and back.
The part that spoilt it...
IAN_W, Jul 2022
The part that spoilt it for us ,was, the guide spoke a lot in French, then had to say it all again in English, we had passed by things en route ,when it was explained in English… the French people spokeperfect English, would have made it more interesting,if it just had been English (which was what we paid for)
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Dear Ian, thanks for bringing this to our attention about your Tivoli guided tour (Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa)! Actually, it happens sometimes that we have to put two groups together and make a tour bilingual. This is for financial reasons or difficulty in finding another guide that speaks the other language. We are sorry if it made the tour less smooth or attractive for you! We'll try to avoid this next time - we always do actually as much as possible. Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team
Beautiful day of history and gardens.
Deborah_W, Jul 2022
Hadrian’s Villa was so interesting. The gardens at Villa d’Este were spectacular! My husband is a Landscape Architect and had studied these gardens as part of his training. Seeing them was one of his favorite parts of our Italy trip.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Deborah, so glad you and your husband enjoyed the guided visit to Tivoli so much - it must have been overwhelming to finally see up close something you had only studied on textbooks. Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team
Great Tour of Hadrian's Palace and Tivoli
Julie_M, Jun 2022
Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the sites we visited. He was attentive to the group and was ready to answer questions. Great tour, highly recommended.
Tivoli experience
Margaret_M, Jun 2022
The canope at Hadrian’s villa and the fountains at villa d’este are stunning. A not yo he missed experience. More time is needed at Villa d’este if you want to see the house and the gardens.
Must see
Anna_H, Jun 2022
Great trip! Beautiful scenery and our guide Fabio was amazing. We opted to have a nice little lunch in Tivoli instead of the climb down and back up to the gardens at Villa s’Este
Tour Guide gets 4 stars, Bus Drive Zero
MARILYN_M, May 2022
The bus driver spoke very loud on his cell phone the whole time while driving the bus, with the exception when the tour guide made comments.. After an hour plus touring on a hot sunny day,, we returned to the bus and he had never turned on the air conditioning and it was extremely hot.!!! We had to request that he do so after the next stop. Not only was he annoying , it was a safety issue, and we didn't pay for a cell phone performance from the driver. Some retraining is required.
Rome away from Rome
Kyle_T, May 2022
The English guide Marco was very informative and helpful. Bus ride was quick, easy, and comfortable. Hadrians Villa left a little to be desired as all the original statues had been moved to the Vatican. Villa d'Este had many beautiful fountains and decent food choices for a quick snack during the hour of free time we had to explore.
The roman emperor...
GW_V, May 2022
The roman emperor Hadrian's buildings and the expanse of his lands is overwhelming. It's the total concept of landscape, ruins, water, the immense archtecture that is impressive. It was a great pity that time was far too short to visit the renaissance Villa d'Este ! We almost ran through the Villa and the splendid gardens, such a deception, also for our guides, who were well informed on both sites. How very nice it would have been to have 2 hours more time!!!

Very informative tour. Be prepared for a steep hill to walk up and many stairs in the 2nd part of the tour.

Morten_S, Oct 2021
This was a nice 5 hours tour. If you have some time over during Your trip to Rome this is the perfect way to spend them. Interesting views, and a good guide made this tour a memorable trip.
Excellent Tour by Fabian
NenetteV_T, Oct 2021
Both the Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli & Villa d’Este are a must see. I was sad so little of original Hadrian’s palace structure survived. Villa d’Este’s paintings were so fascinating and its fountain landscape was magnificent. Fabian displayed a complete mastery of the subject to my knowledge and I felt it was a highlight of my trip to Italy. My wife had a knee replacement 5 months ago and was a little slow. She was able to see everything without holding the tour up..
A great and most enjoyable tour.
Carmelo_M, Oct 2021
Imagining what Hadran’s villa must have looked like. The fountains of villa d’Este are fantastic. Our Guide Fabio was extremely good - very knowledgeable and courteous.
Must See
Mark_R, Sep 2021
Our guideFabio was very informative and social. In addition we had a terrific driver. Hadrian’s villa was the Disney world of its day except for 1 person.
Fabulous excursion!

Benjamin was our remarkable tour guide to Hadrian's Villa & Villa d'Este, and was superb! He has a wealth of information, which he shares in such as way as to make things come alive again! The weather was perfect, photos excellent, and Benjamin's professionalism was outstanding. As a return visitor to Rome, I had long waited to visit Villa Adriano. I was not disappointed in the least! Highly recommended to make this a "must do" visit!
