Traveler Tips

It is a long day from Rome but well worth it.
The gondolas are a bit expensive but you can't go to Venice and not have a ride in one.
Despite an early start, a comfortable and pleasant three-hour train ride awaits for your trip to Venice.

Lost in Venice!
Julie_W, Mar 2023
Venice was a lot bigger than I expected. Tour company was fabulous in insuring every detail. We did get lost in Venice which is to be expected.
Good guide. Included...

Good guide. Included restaurant stop… the food was poor quality. Choose a better place. Thanks for sending a survey.
If you can navigate the easy train system, do that instead.
Jenna_A, Mar 2023
If you know how to use the train system (which is incredibly easy to figure out), then this booking won’t be necessary. We learned how to use it for an earlier day trip and I regret not canceling this one to schedule the tickets myself. It would’ve saved us hundreds. Train tickets are expensive, but then you have the freedom to leave and return when you want and not wait for participants who don’t respect other’s time. The “tour” guide was kind and made sure everyone was taken care of but it wasn’t exactly a tour.
Loved our time in Venice!
Shea_B, Mar 2023
We loved this tour! Rosella was our guide and she was amazing - after the train ride to Venice, the tour started with a guided walk through several different areas where she told us interesting information and allowed us to take pictures as we went. After about an hour and a half, the guided portion of the tour ended at St. Mark's Square. We then had free time to explore. On Rosella's recommendation, we went up in the Bell Tower for a great view of the whole area. It was definitely worth the 10euro/pp to go up. We decided to use the rest of our time taking a gondola ride (80euro/cash only) and wandering through all the charming streets and shops. At the end of the day, the tour included a drink and appetizer plate (3 pieces of bruschetta with various toppings) that we took advantage of before heading back to the train station. Rosella also had told everyone there was a grocery store to pick up any items we might want for the train ride back - and I'm so glad she did. Our train ended up being delayed for 2 hours because of an accident, but luckily we had purchased some items for dinner. For those that did not though, there was a cafe car on the train where you could purchase small food and drink items. We finally arrived back in Rome close to midnight and Rosella made sure to walk everyone to the taxi stand and make sure we all got safely on our way back to our hotels. Long day, but a great taste of what Venice has to offer if you only have one day to go and explore. Highly recommend this tour!

High speed train made the roundtrip from Rome easy. Guide was wonderful, very attentive to any need. Tour allowed enough time to explore the city. Would highly recommend!

New friends and Gondolas!
Pri_D, Dec 2022
This tour was one of my favorites from our trip(honeymoon). Our tour guide was Antonella. She was really personable and helpful trying to help us all get water boots for a reasonable price. Venice had so many shops and things to see. My husband and I rode the Gondola with two other group members from the tour. It was nice meeting new friends and getting to experience a once in a lifetime adventure like we did in Venice.
Beautiful Venice!
Trina_A, Dec 2022
My tour guide she let me kept walking around with her even during our free time. We had lunch at her favorite restaurant where the staff treated me well & took photos with me…. Very enjoyable!!!
magical day
Anjali_J, Nov 2022
Our guide Rossella was very kind and knowledgeable and I feel like the tour offered just the right balance of structure and independence. And of course Venice was lovely. I recommend avoiding the lines to go into San Marco or the bell tower and to just use the time to walk around and explore the streets and the little bridges and the smaller churches and definitely check out the mask shops.
Lovely day trip from Rome
Mary_d, Nov 2022
Really great day trip! I was worried it would be too rushed for a day trip, but it really was worth it. Venice is beautiful, of course, and it was lovely to have a guide give a bit of history before heading out on my own. If you are on the fence, do it!
Exceptional tour
Elsa_E, Nov 2022
Rosalie was the best tour guide since we got here. She helped everyone. She did this alone without any help Spanish and English. I was impressed for her care and dedication. We had elder people and she took her time explain and be kind with them. Something that I love about her is the she didn’t leave until we took our taxi on our way back to the hotel. Thank you so much for provide people that you can trust..
Bellísima

A full day in Venice
Judith_F, Oct 2022
Our day trip to Venice from Rome was all we anticipated and more! Our guide was there for us throughout the day. We knew we were in good hands the minute we met her at the train station. She was clear, concise and always accommodating. We had a few Spanish speaking attendees and Rosella spoke in both English and Spanish. The train ride allowed us to see the countryside. Once we arrived in Venice she guided us through the streets explaining significant sites and historical significance. We we then allowed to wander on our own for the afternoon. A romantic rid on the gondola was a highlight! We all met up at the returning train station at the end of the day. It should be noted that Rosella made sure at the end of our day that each member was safely escorted to their taxis (since it was late at night) She exceeded our expectations throughout the trip.
Not worth it
Megan_G, Oct 2022
Maps should have been included, or we should have at least been told where to get them. Guide led us through a maze of streets to St Marks (admission is also no longer included) and then we were left completely on our own. As a solo traveler I was very nervous about getting lost and being left behind; if I hadn’t taken a bunch of random pictures on the walk to St Marks to help me navigate my way back to the station, that probably would have been the case. The train rides were also longer than advertised. The only saving graces of the day for me were the gondola ride which I took once I got my bearings (cost 80 euros but it was worth it because it helped me relax) and I had a great lunch at a restaurant the guide recommended. Speaking of the guide, none of the above was her fault, but she could have shown a bit more sympathy when I was clearly nervous about getting lost. If you ever go to Venice, stay in a hotel for a few nights. I do not suggest doing it this way. Not worth the cost and long train rides in my opinion.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Dear Megan, thanks for writing and for expressing your concerns! We are sorry to read that you didn't feel totally safe or relaxed, we can understand that! The one-day tour to Venice from Rome has a strict schedule and the time is limited. The tour is dedicated to those who are in Rome for a short time but still wish to reach Venice daily and need a little assistance or help in purchasing the train tickets. An assistant is available all the time but we don't call it a 'guided' tour. Your feedback about maps and more help in allowing the customers to get their bearings in a new city has been noted, we thank you very much about it! Best wishes, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team
Venice experience
Luis_V, Oct 2022
Walking around the different islands in Venice and spending time in the square are worth the trip. I recommend the tour guide give more information about key sites in Venice before leaving us to ourselves to explore.
Would recommend to anyone and hopefully you’ll will be able to get Rosella as a guide
John_C, Oct 2022
Such a fun place to visit and share with family. Rosella was a great guide with an abundance of knowledge
Great way to see Venice, definitely recommend!
Jessica_P, Oct 2022
YESSS do this trip! I made such great friends, learned a lot about Venice, and really enjoyed the solo time exploring. Have cash for the gondola's (80 euro) but card is fine elsewhere. The train was really quick and had great wifi (and a bar for snacks and cocktails on the way). Great trip all around and I highly recommend.
