The beautiful Amalfi Coast in November

Our group of six rode comfortably in an 8 passenger van with a very skilled driver, Rosario and friendly guide Diana. Our time was limited in port so we opted for this private tour so we could see the most in a period of six hours. Fortunately we had great November weather and traffic was light on Sunday. Because of the time restrictions we imposed on the driver and guide the tour was basically a photo op on the Amalfi coast. There are a few flowers in bloom at this time of year but most of the blooming is dormant at this point in the season. We spent about 45 minutes in Sorrento walking around and shopping on our own. Arrangements for lunch were made by the tour guide at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the water called Calajanarra Restaurant. ( definitely a highlight). The Amalfi Cathedral visit was an option for those who wanted to make the steep trek up the steps. We should have made enough time to visit the Duomo in Salerno where the crypt of Saint Matthew resides but some of the group were anxious to get back to the ship. ( We had taken a bus tour to Sorrento three weeks earlier and the traffic was horrible) Salerno has significant history for Americans during World War II. We had asked about it but never got much of a response. It would’ve been nice to have communicated with the actual tour guide prior to the tour in order to let her know the time limitations. She had a plan but had to readjust with the time constraints. I would recommend a private tour when You have a limited amount of time but do your homework and communicate ahead of time what it is you want to see and do. Also remember that some of the restaurants and shops are beginning to close for the winter season but the views are always magnificent!

We had a great time in Rome, we were on a cruise that ported in civitacchia and we opted for the driver with no guide but we got a driver with a translator who was very informative and led us to our points of interest and gave us time to explore with an easy meeting point destinations to meet back up with him. The Trevi Fountain the Vatican City the Spanish steps were all amazing and the coliseum was breathtaking, we really enjoyed and would recocommend the trip, we were a party of 6 and we were comfortable in the mini van and thought this was great value for money and a great way to explore Rome.

All in all, it was a wonderful tour, and all 6 of us enjoyed it immensely. The scenery is breathtaking!!! Our driver was very good; however his English was very limited. We had a person with us who spoke Italian.....however, instead of translating many things, he and the driver just chatted with each other. The following are my personal comments ........I would have liked less time in Sorrento, and MORE time in Positano. Also, we did not get to the place the driver chose for us for lunch, until LONG after lunch time, and most of us were "starving" by then. We would have liked to have lunch in or near Positano. Apart from that, it was a great day, and a great tour......... and I would definitely recommend Viator to other people.

Overall, it was a great day tour of sampling of Amalfi coast. The minivan was very roomy and comfortable for five of us. Our driver Pepe was excellent, very courteous, polite, and friendly. He paid attention to everyone's comfort and need. The drive was great. Pepe was very flexible as to how we wanted to split our time at each destination. He chose a lunch spot in Priano overlooking the sea, it was just amazing. Amalfi coast is one of our most favorite destinations and having Pepe the driver made it very enjoyable and relaxing day.

Our driver was prompt and very friendly though spoke very little english. We had a bit of trouble getting out of the port due to some misunderstanding with the port authority and the driver. Once on the road, the trip was really amazing. It was truly worth seeing and experiencing the culture in which they live in this region. Violets were blooming and it was just like the pictures you see painted of the Amalfi Coast. Food was amazing and the people were friendly. We still can't get over the way they drive in Europe, CRAZY and fast. Our drive was very careful and no one felt unsafe and nor car sick which is important to note since the road is very narrow and curvey. Over all it was a major highlight to our 18 day trip to Italy. Beautiful country!
