I love to visit zoos wherever my travels take me. The San Diego Zoo and Safari park is the greatest I have ever been in. The variety of animals is breathtaking. This is my second visit to the zoo/park and I recommend it to anyone visiting the SD area.

Go to the zoo!!!
Janelle_W, Oct 2023
The San Diego Zoo was great! We had a blast there 😊
We purchased our tickets through Viator and had zero issues using them. They scanned right at the entry without any issues.
Heads up: October is Kids Free month! So kids 11 years and under do not require a ticket for admission into the park. Lots of babies to see right now (October 2nd, 2023).
Lots of food options to choose from (be prepared, most are between $15-$20 plus drinks). The beer gardens were a nice treat for the adults - we loved the frozen blended margaritas! Drinks were expensive but once you get your refills for the day, it evens out. Be prepared to spend money!
We spent 7 hours at the Zoo and was able to see almost everything.
We went to the Safari for day 2 - it wasn’t as good. A lot of the attractions were closed (examples: the petting zoo and the tigers), as well, the food options were limited. I would say about 30% of the food options were open. May have been that we were there October 3rd, and it’s their end of season. The highlight was the Africa Tram! We were able to get to see the Rhino’s, Giraffes, and lions. We spent 4 hours here and saw almost everything. I will say, it is quite deceiving that the Safari rides are prices you have to pay on top of your ticket. Most of the Safari’s (keep rides) are $90 US which is more than the ticket to get in. While it would have been fun to experience that, I’m not willing to spend those kind of extras for a short experience.
Highly recommend the zoo! Not sure I would go back to the safari.
Zoo was good; Safari Park not so much
Amy_C, Aug 2023
We found the zoo interesting and fun to walk around. The Safari Park was a disappointment. It was difficult to find your way from one place to the next since the numbered poles that were to guide you were too high up to notice, covered by foliage, or off the main path. There seemed to be no direct route anywhere, which is tough on a 5-yo who just wants to get to a certain spot. The Safari ride was ok, but nothing special.
Great time at the San Diego Zoo
Elizabeth_V, Jul 2023
Go to the zoo early because that’s when all the animals are visible. Loved the tour, the hop on hop off buses and the sky ride.
Ticket issues
Don_O, Jun 2023
We received 1 ticket for 2 adults. This caused an issue at both parks. Took a while to convince the ticket attendants to let both of us in
I Love the Zoo!
Chrystal_R, Jun 2023
I had a wonderful time! There is so much to see and do! I wish I could have came back for the night time fun (which is included). The zoo tickets you can leave and come back and for anyone, you can bring your own food.
Love this place!!

San Diego zoo and Safari combo pass
Bonita_F, Apr 2023
Both the zoo and the safari park are must sees in San Diego. Getting there first thing in the morning allowed us to avoid the line ups and see the animals still active.
Do not purchase through Viator
Clarissa_H, Mar 2023
1. They’re the same price as the website.
2. They don’t scan properly at the gate because of a letter in the serial number.
3. They don’t require a specific date at the zoo or safari even though Viator makes you choose one
4. Customer service sucked when I called for help.
The zoo/safari employees were excellent and very understanding (we weren’t the only ones having the same issue) but it did make entry to both places a lot more frustrating and time consuming than it should have been. Until they figure out how to fix this problem, save yourself the trouble and just purchase them from the website.
Viator is only concerned...
RamonaB, Nov 2022
Viator is only concerned about making money. They never ever disclosed the fact that their tickets don't include the actual Safari ride, it is only admittance to the park which of you buy them at the park you get bigger discounts for adding excursions. They also didn't disclose that the park (both) close at 5pm everything stops at 4:30pm everyday even though the Safari Zoo stays open till 8pm for Xmas is just to walk in the corridor under Xmas lights no show at all. Finally, the staff at viator was very rude when I called to get my tickets unlocked because if you don't go the day and time scheduled you have to beg to use your tickets which was upwards of $800 for my family of 7 2 children 5 adults even though they say you have 1yr. to use them.
Disappointed customer
Great trip.

Amazing animals from all over the world especially the lions, tigers and giraffes. Kids will love it.
Great SD Zoo & Safari
Debora_M, Jul 2022
Had a great time at the SD Zoo & Zoo Safari. The animals were great, especially in the bigger areas at the Zoo Safari! My family really enjoyed it!
Zoo and safari park
Thomas_H, Jun 2022
Beautiful and well kept for the animals! So spacious for them to roam. Best park in the USA. Workers are friendly and so helpful and knowledgeable

Allison_B, Jul 2021
Never got to the Safari park . But got to see the Zoo a very bad experience was not pleased at all I really wanted my money bad . No one told us that the Safari was 45 min away . That what we really wanted to experience.
Excellent!
Hope_R, May 2021
The San Diego Zoo was the best zoo trip I have ever experienced! The only downside was we didn’t get to see the Penguins..
Disappointed
Trish_B, May 2021
Disappointed, that we could not get a refund for my 80 year old Dad who has the beginnings of Dimentia. He would not let anyone else drive him, and he got lost. He has lived in San Diego for years, and is a retired Master Sargeant, US Air Force ..can't refund one dinner for that out of 5 people??? Also no music, dancing, or fireworks like last time .. not worth money. We will not be back. We flew down for my sons Marine Graduation too. Super disappointed
Safari was a bad experience
Apolonio_M, May 2021

Great time
Mike_M, May 2021
The zoo was very clean and the staff friendly and very helpful. Animals seemed to be healthy and content in they're habitats
Good day!
Stacey_V, May 2021
None were mememerable as much just was a relaxing day. Allot of walking and enjoying spending time with my wife.
No trams or bus
david_r, May 2021
I was very unhappy at both parks there were no tram or bus in the park. My right knee aches really bad when I walk alot. Your website didn't mention that because of Covid19 no rides. In fact the site said I would be riding on a tram at Safari Park. Very misleading sorry I booked through your site. Won't happen again I promise. Never
Zoo
Oscar_A, May 2021
Great just that I didn't notice I purchased for both zoos and I was only able to visit one. Other than that it was great
