Isabella was a fantastic, friendly and personable tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable about Chinatown and was very entertaining. The food was excellent! Highly recommended!
Great way to spend a Sunday - even in the rain
    Anuj_N, Mar 2023
I would wholeheartedly recommend our tour guide Brian and the whole experience. It was a rainy Sunday morning but the rain took nothing away from our enjoyment. We were a group of 5 - and one was in a wheelchair. Brian accommodated us easily. He is funny and incredibly informative. I live in SF and still learned a lot - from the proper chopsticks etiquette to where the first public school in the US is located and what those barbary coast tiles in the pavement really mean.
    Good for teens, and adults

Fun and informative tour. Isabella had great stories to bring Chinatown to life. She hit all the high spots. She also kept the teenagers on our trip interested.

We loved hearing the history and being able to meet local shop owners. The food was fabulous and we met people in our group from all over the world.

Educational and entertaining tour that focuses on food, culture and history. Our tour ran 3 1/2 hours and time literally flew by. The stops at little shops and sit downs at several restaurants made the tour relaxing. Brian, the tour leader, was outstanding! Highly recommend.

We enjoyed learning about tea and its properties to assist our health. May gave a great and humorous demonstration of making tea and providing us with several different varieties. We enjoy the oldest dim som restaurant and enjoyed the samples. We all chose a bakery treat at a Chinese bakery. Later, the meal that we enjoyed at another restaurant was very nice and has been enjoyed by many famous guests. Our tour guide provided us with a very intesting tour in various spots of Chinatown. She made our visit exceptional.
    Fantastic tour! Highly recommended.

We had an absolutely fantastic 3-hour Chinatown Culinary Walking Tour with a local guide, Brian, so we heard fascinating history, learned Chinese food and table customs, visited so many places that we lost count, and sampled some foods that we never would have known about let alone tried on our own. Unlike most food tours where you walk a lot and get some small samples from some vendors, this tour included actual meals at two restaurants and ended with an entertaining (and delicious) sampling of teas. The walk is relatively flat and there is lots to eat and see. Well done! I highly recommend this small-group tour (10 people) and would will do it again when I return. Ask for Brian at Local Tastes of the City Tours. And bring an appetite!
    Awesome tour

Brian had great stories and was a pleasure to spend the time getting to know the area. The tea shop experience at the end was an excellent end to the tour

Brian was fun and knowledgeable, food was delicious! It was interesting to learn a bit more about Chinatown and experience the culture through food. The tea tasting was a great experience on its own. 10/10 recommendation for the tea tasting if you can’t do anything else in Chinatown.

Brian was an excellent guide. We have walked through Chinatown many times on our own, but having a knowledgeable guide to share the history and show us the hidden treasures made all the difference! The food was delicious and the experience fantastic!
A fun way to experience Chinatown
    Nancy_K, Aug 2022
I would recommend this tour as a very good way to explore Chinatown. Our guide Brian was very knowledgeable about this unique neighborhood of San Francisco. He explained the history of Chinatown and took us to a variety of places to get a good flavor of the area, including a Catholic church that survived the San Francisco earthquake, a kite shop and a kitchen goods supply store. The owner at the kitchen goods store said if you aren't cooking with a wok, you aren't cooking! Along the way, we sampled pork and onion buns, a moon cake and chocolate. We also drank many different kinds of tea at a store run by a very colorful 92 year-old man who said he has drunk tea all his life. This made one of our sons decide to start drinking more tea. We especially enjoyed the tea tasting experience and the two restaurants we visited where we sampled pot stickers, roast duck, Chinese vegetables, Chinese-style green beans and chow mein noodles. Come hungry because you will get plenty of food to eat and tea to drink.
