What To Expect

Pick up your GoCar at one of two convenient locations: at Union Square or on Beach Street near Fisherman's Wharf. Up to 2 people can fit in this roofless, 3-wheeled car that reaches speeds of 35 miles per hour. This is a unique way to explore the City by the Bay, and GoCars aren't available in any other place in the nation. 

Strap on your helmet, climb into the tiny car, and take off on your city adventure. Listen for directions that are clear and informative, telling you where to go and commentary about the historical and cultural significance of your destinations. Follow the designated route or make up your own tour based on your interests like film, art or nature. Explore the city at your own pace, stopping to spend more time at places that interest you. Landmarks on the preloaded tour include over 50 points of interest like Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park, Fort Point, Crissy Field, Lombard Street and the Palace of Fine Arts.

Palace of Fine Arts Theatre

The Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District of San Francisco, California, is a monumental structure originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. One of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition, it is still situated on its original site. In addition to hosting art exhibitions, it remains a popular attraction for tourists and locals.

Golden Gate Bridge

Certainly the most-photographed bridge in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge is synonymous with San Francisco. Drive up to the viewing area, or the foot of the bridge at Fort Point, to take pictures. You can take even better pictures at Baker Beach, a few minutes drive past the bridge!

  • GoCars hold a maximum of 2 people. Prices are per GoCar - not per person.
  • Pickup location must be chosen at time of booking. This is the location where your GoCar will be reserved
  • Driver must be 21 years or older to rent and must provide a major credit card and valid driver’s license at the time of check-in. A driver’s license must be in the customer’s physical possession (no photocopy). For foreign customer’s, an international license is not necessary.
  • Passengers must be 4 years of age or older - and small children must safely fit into one of our DOT approved helmets. The GoCar is registered as a motorcycle - but a motorcycle license is not required to operate the vehicle.
  • All renters must be able to read, understand and sign a liability release and waiver form (standard participant agreement)
  • On the day of rental, a $500 security deposit will be held on the customer’s credit card. If a CDW or SLI insurance plan is selected, a $150 security deposit will be held. The security deposit is released when the GoCar is returned.
  • Foreign language options are available in French, Spanish, Italian and German
  • For the safety and comfort of passengers the maximum height is 6'4" (1.9m) and maximum combined weight of 500 lbs (226.8 kg) for two passengers
  • Can you stop along the way?
  • Yes, you set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
  • Do you have to stay on the tour?
  • Absolutely not! If there is a San Francisco sight you wish to see but is not yet included on the tour, just use the map provided to navigate your own way through the city streets.
  • Vehicles:
  • Are controlled with a motorcycle-style handle, throttle, and hand brakes. The 3-wheeled cars seat two and have a lockable trunk for your things. Their small size makes parking a breeze, and in San Francisco - a major bonus!
  • How fast does the car go?
  • Up to 35-mph. Note that drivers in San Francisco do not typically drive fast, therefore an average speed of 30-mph or less can be expected while driving.
  • Can you cross the Golden Gate Bridge?
  • No, but the tour will navigate you to Fort Point. Here the bridge soars about 200-feet above your head. It is possible to gain pedestrian access to the bridge span from the car park at the bridge vantage point.
  • What is a CDW?
  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an optional form of insurance similar to rental car insurance that limits your liability in case of accident. It is non-refundable. If you opt to purchase the CDW your deposit for rented a GoCar is only USD$150.00 instead of USD$400.00

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Precious memories made in a GoCar!

My 22 year old son and I took a GoCar tour and had a blast. It was so fun to drive and easy. Local cars were gracious and patient as we navigated to all the sights of San Francisco. It was a highlight of our trip!

We had loads of fun! The weather was kind of miserable but we decided to embrace the experience anyhow & had a great time. Thanks for a great time Jose, you are a wonder to behold :) We wholeheartedly recommend this experience. We did a longer tour along the bay & went down Lombard Street. Fun, fun, fun! You can stop whenever & where ever you want so that makes it even better as you are not beholden to a tour bus schedule. Highly recommend!

We were lucky with the weather - the sights were amazing - laughed a lot driving the go cart and my 17 year old niece loved every second. We booked the full day - definitely take advantage of it, you can stop anywhere for as long as you like. Show up early to fill out your waiver. We got there right after 10 am for a 10:30 reservation, but with paperwork and orientation it still took til 11 to be out the door. GPS is clear and easy to understand. One of the best memories we’ve made together and strongly recommend. You have to be mobile to get in and out of the cart, also very tall people may want to call ahead to see if they fit. At 5’7” and 5’9” we were cozy - not sure someone over 6 feet would have been as comfortable for a full day.

The entire experience was just amazing!!!! 100 % recommended for those that like to explore (at your leisure) and don’t know where to start. This is a personal, private tour of the city and landmarks on wheels!!!!!

It could have been fun; however, the cars were old and kept breaking down. One of the cars we rented could not make it up the hills. The men had to get out and push the car so it could go back down the hill after stopping midway. We became so aggravated that we did not finish the route. We just decided it was not worth the hassle and took the cars back. Also, the route was not set on our cars, so we had the use the GPS on our phones to get around. It would have been a fun experience if they had updated cars.

Wow! Absolutely loved this experience! Cars were easy to drive and the route felt safe (slower speed limits and mostly 2-lane roads). Directions were clear with the GPS and I felt like I learned a lot too. This is the perfect way to get to see a lot of San Francisco in a short amount of time! I went with the three hour tour and wish I’d opted for four hours. I saw a ton, but didn’t have time to stop for food or breaks other than the quick photos ops. Check in was a little chaotic. I had to wait in line with people who were booking in person - wish there had been a quicker process for people had reserved in advance.

Best way to see San Francisco. Highly recommend, easy to drive and satnav works well. It’s basically a moped so they don’t go fast but it’s done at a great pace. We went for three hours. Probably would do four if we did it again.

I set this up for my boyfriends birthday and we had a blast. We did get lost (call the office number so we didn’t get charged for being late) but it was amazing. We saw all the tourists spots, totally worth it !!

Employees gave us all the detailed info needed, be sure to be patient during checkin several steps (easy) to take before jumping into a car, was super fun, each of my boys age 10 and 13 rode with my husband and I, we visit the city many many times this was another way to see the city and found some extra fun spots we had not came across before! We did the 1-hr tour and gave us a chance to try and see if we liked it, will take a longer options next time

Amazing experience driving the streets of San Francisco in these little GoCars. We had the 2 hour hire which was perfect for what we wanted to see. Plenty of opportunity to stop and stretch legs for photos. Highly recommend this as the starting point of your trip to San Francisco. It's a great way to familiarise yourself with the northern parts of San Francisco.
