Pedal past sights like Aquatic Park Cove, part of San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, and enjoy views of Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Traveler Tips

There were a couple of small uphills, but time was allocated for those who preferred to get off and walk uphill
I was shaking by the time we got across the bridge but it was worth it because the views were spectacular.

Our family had a great...

Our family had a great time! Loved all the stops along the way. Rick was a great tour guide, & was very willing to take a lot of family photos. Our youngest child is 11, & did great!! Highly recommend this tour!!
Exhilarating adventure

Our guide was friendly and fun. I appreciated also that safety talks were emphasized. I rode an electric bike which really came in handy uphill. I am not a seasoned biker and I only caution those who don't -- like a thrill like a speeding roller coaster! -- this may be too much for you. It can be very windy on the bridge. But what an exhilarating time and beautiful views of the bay. Plus a moment to catch your breath in lovely Sausalito.
Great tour, even on a rainy day.

Our tour guide was Blake. Even though it was a rainy day in San Francisco, Blake took us on a great (modified by our request) tour to the Golden Gate Bridge. Rain was forecast for the afternoon, NOT the morning -but it started raining less than 10m into our tour. It wasn't too heavy of rain, but it was cold. We ended up on a private tour, because of weather. Each stop, we would check the weather apps and made decisions to move on or not. Eventually, it did let up and we had an enjoyable time. Since we didn't know if the scheduled storm was still coming in the afternoon, we opted not to full cross the bridge to Sausalito. We didn't want to get to Sausalito and be stuck in a bad storm, so far away from the bike return. Instead we requested to be led into the Presidio to a museum we had on our list to do next. We were able to see and experience most of the regular tour - we even got to go halfway across the bridge for some up close photos. Blake was a great tour guide and put up with our craziness to keep going in the light rain. He was kind enough to lead us to the Walt Disney Museum in the Presidio and help us find a safe place to lock up the bikes. After the museum we rode our way back to the shop to return the bikes on our own. I would do this tour again, and hope for better weather.
A definite must!

Great opportunity to see the city and the bike across the Golden Gate Bridge was amazing! Adam was a great guide and very passionate and knowledgeable about SF
Beautiful location - abysmal service
Sophie_R, Mar 2023
We were super excited to complete this tour and had booked weeks in advance. When we arrived (45 minutes early) we were approached by a worker and was extremely rude around bike selection options and very condescending. It automatically made us feel I’ll equipped for this tour and his attitude was noted by others around us. During the ride, the tour guide constantly spoke to a couple vs the whole group, so we missed a number of information updates. We are fit people who exercise frequently however this was challenging and unlike the descriptions shared. The actual bridge was hectic with so many cyclists and tourists and limited actual guidance from our tour guide who just rode to the other side with no checkpoints. Finally the ferry back was not as simple as the description sounds only coming every hour and also does not take you back the pier 39 - the entire tour group was confused and directionless. Overall a really, really disappointing experience and the staff at both the bike shop and touring were lacking of service and care.

Hi Ms. Robertson, I am sorry you didn’t like anything about your tour with us. It’s hard to respond to a guest when they have nothing positive to say, about any aspect or any person involved. Still, we can say: you toured on Wednesday after a flood of rainy days, and folks were very excited to be out biking, so the day held much pent up demand. Your tour was larger as so many waited to book overnight. That said, others on your tour loved it and went out of their way to express their joy with hefty tour guide tips, which he greatly appreciated. The review just below yours, from the same tour, cites how patient your same guide was with her.... Also about bike choice; the public tour you booked includes a City Comfort Bike, however you were free to upgrade to a an E bike or sports bike if something more upscale suited you better. As we are staffed with a team of pros, we know what bike to choose for you, based on your size and hip to floor ratio. Again, the bridge was probably crowded as so many on Spring break waited until the rain cleared to walk and ride the bridge. We aren’t able to control the ferry conditions but do feature well posted signage through our materials and shop about the two ferries. They alternate departures all day long going back to Pier 41 and Pier 1; the great news is the Pier 1 ferry, 15 minutes farther away, takes you to the fabulous Ferry Building, an epicurean marketplace most folks love to visit. Its sounds like perhaps you would’ve done better with an upscale private tour with electric bikes, which we happily feature! That way you could have had a tour guide all to yourself to fulfill the dream you had for bike touring in a city. We feature these on Viator and welcome your booking for one next time! Thanks!
Great experience!

Great tour and bike ride! Our guide was very friendly and we got great pics on top of the bridge. We took the ferry back and got pictures in front of Alcatraz Island, too.
Intense bike tour
Joe_A, Feb 2023
If you enjoy a challenging bike ride than this one is for you. Without a doubt one of most satisfying and intense bike tours that I’ve done. The sights and panoramic views are breathtaking. Adam our tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about his beloved city of San Francisco. If you can’t handle the hills get an e-bike. All in all if you can handle the hills and intense bike ride - totally worth it. Note: This bike tour is not for kids.
Fantastic time & a great experience!
Charlene_L, Jan 2023
We had a great time with Adam as our guide! Adam is a veritable fountain of knowledge about the area & many other things. It was a great time & wow those e-bikes are something else. Thanks Adam for a wonderful day 😁
Must do when in SF
Amanda_L, Dec 2022
Nice tour! Worth it to see and experience GG bridge. Nice thing is you get to keep the bike for rest of day to explore SF in your own time. Nice tour guide, very helpful and informative discussions.
Tour Guide 4*: Bike shop 1*
Eve_J, Dec 2022
Brilliant cycle tour and guide taking you along the coast which isn't particularly hilly apart from 2 short hills to climb. HOWEVER the ONE job the bike shop had was to give me a bike which fit. The staff member was very chatty and welcoming but didn't appear to put much effort into this ONE job. I ended up with an XS bike instead of a M. His excuse? "Some else put an XS into the S group of bikes" - either way - I shouldn't have had a small. His allocation of bikes was guess work and didn't even ask what size I would normally have. I assumed (wrongly) that the bike I had would have been adjustable enough. I spent the whole trip in pain with my legs (and subsequent days) and the tour guide also didn't seem to care and didn't offer much solution. On returning to the bike shop, the employee said I should have phoned and he would have sent another bike out - but the tour guide did not offer this as a solution and I did not even think that was a possibility. They did not offer me any compensation for this significant physical issue. If you book PLEASE talk to the employee about your height and usual bike size - DO NOT RELY on them!!
Great tour

Excellent tour. Steve was a terrific guide, very informative, great scenery, easy ride with the e-bikes.

My wife and I, instead of a normal day date (while the kids were in school) booked the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito Guided bike tour through Viator. Our tour guide, Steve was great, very informative and made sure the group was together and stayed safe. The team at Bay City Bike Rental were friendly and ensured that the bikes we got were the right size for us and that we felt comfortable. Definitely wish I was in better shape especially going uphill but overall we had a fantastic time. Seeing the city in a different way, would recommend this tour.
My best time!
Isabet_G, Nov 2022
I love every second of it even when it becomes a bit harder biking on the Golden gate. I chose a regular bike. Everybody else got a E bike. Our guide Jude was very knowledgeable. We learned a lot during our regular small breaks. I’m not a biker and it’s really doable. Golden gate a bit windy and noisy. We crossed it to arrive in Sausalito where you can enjoy stores restaurants and views. Very pretty and upscale. After enjoying Sausalito you can either bike to your primary departure. Good luck you should be a good biker or have an E bike ( because of the hill). Or you can take the ferry. Again I loved it. If you love the efforts and feeling alive do it. Don’t forget to tip your wonderful guide!😜
One of our favorite days...

One of our favorite days in San Francisco. Breathtaking views of the bridge and city and we loved Sausalito. So nice to have a guided tour but then also time to bike on our own.

Loredane_F, Nov 2022
The tour was great. Adam was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about the city that he deeply loves. He was very patient with our group making sure everyone was enjoying the ride. The tour ends in Sausalito, which is a super charming place. So I suggest you take the time to walk around and try one of the many restaurant options before taking the Ferry back to San Francisco. There are three hills on the way. The first one is the most difficult, but also the shortest. Take your time and you can do it ;) There's the option to rent the electric bike as well! There's one stop before the bridge where you an buy some water and rest a bit. Take a lot of pictures and enjoy the views. You won't regret it!
Great guide and fun day!
Sandra_S, Nov 2022
Judy was a fabulous guide on our 8-mile adventure from Fisherman's Wharf to Sausalito. She had lots of history and insights as a local. We splurged for the electric bikes, which I highly recommend, unless you are an experienced biker (there are a few good hills and certainly if you plan to ride back ...we only went one way). It was nice to spend the day enjoying the scenery and had a nice lunch before taking the ferry back
Fun way to SF
Katherine_S, Oct 2022
We had a great time and enjoyed having Steve as our guide. He was awesome! I knocked one star off this review, though, because one of our electric bikes was not working properly. My 60-year-old friend had to walk her heavy electric bike up the hills, defeating the purpose of paying extra for an E-bike.
Fun
Leah_A, Oct 2022
Excellent seeing parts of the city we would never have seen otherwise. Great tour guide and broke up the ride really well with regular stops!
The Best Day!
Kevin_F, Oct 2022
Beautiful scenery and perfectly timed stops for photos/rest. Our guide Steve was amazing.. very friendly and knowledgeable. Do this tour!
Worst tour ever, waste of money, poor costumer service
samantha_m, Oct 2022
I would NOT recommend this tour to anyone. The guide doesn’t wear a microphone so you can’t hear him. If there are any problems with your bike be prepared to wait at least an hour for them to bring you a new one. We had 3 bikes that had issues in just our tour we were were left just waiting around. You’re allowed to keep the bike after the tour until 7:00pm and given a number to call if you have any bike troubles or are going to be late. One of our bikes got a flat tire and we couldn’t ride it back to the shop. I called 9 times trying to get in touch with someone at 6:30. I was hung up on twice and sent to voicemail several times. When someone answered she told us they already sent people home and we would be charged an overnight fee. I explained several times that physically the bike cannot be ridden. We do not need a new bike but for someone to pick up the broken one. The woman on the phone (Karen) then proceeded to talk over me. The sun was going now and my friend and I were alone in a park. We attempted to ride it back again and could not. I called her back to let her know we were trying and still could not do it where she then said to stop trying to ride the bike to prevent damage. I again asked if someone was coming where she said yes to “assess the situation” and would not confirm if the staff member would be taking the bike. She said it would be about 15 minutes before someone could get to us. After 30 minutes we finally got a call from someone saying they were coming to replace our bike. I told them we did not need a replacement as it was already past 7 and we clearly could not get back in time to return the new bike. They are less the helpful, the tour is nothing special and the only sight you see is the bridge. DO NOT BOOK THiS TOUR. It will be a huge waste of your time and money.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Hi Karen and Sam Apologies there were any issues we had to resolve on the guided tour. Always glad people take advantage of the post tour, free included bike rental. About the call you made to us at 630- I am the one you spoke with, and we have no other missed calls from your 609 phone number on our log. We close at 700, so when you called to say you were more than 30 minutes away, down at a beach with a flat tire, I was trying to explain you would not have made it back WITHOUT a flat tire and would have had to keep bikes overnight which does bear a fee. Still we tried to help, but at that point, most everyone had gone home, and we didn’t have a driver to dispatch. It took a bit to coordinate but our mechanic was able to stop work and get to you within 15 minutes. You unfortunately began our call barking “Here’s how you are going to do this”. This kind of demanding, tell-someone-how-to-do-their-job tone never helps the situation; it was not the fault of the bike- bikes do incur flat tires at rocky beaches. I know you were upset at yourselves for not thinking ahead, and realizing attempting to leave the area to be back by 700 would never happen, but it’s never good to scream at customer service folks. Luckily, our fabulous team was able to resolve your challenging situation for you. Sincerely, Susan
