What To Expect

Receive an included pickup in the morning from your San Juan hotel, after which you’ll transfer by air-conditioned bus or van through a number of local Puerto Rican towns heading to El Yunque, one of the oldest forest reserves in the Western Hemisphere.

You’ll continue into the rainforest, heading to the first trailhead to take your first guided nature walk. As you wander along the trail, your guide will introduce you to the exotic varieties of flowers and the fresh ginger that grow alongside your route. You’ll also learn about the reserve’s significance to the local Taino Indians, who have long considered the area as sacred.

Continue to the reserve’s El Portal Visitor Center, where you’ll have time to explore the exhibits including an elevated forest walkway, walking trails, and educational displays as you learn more about this unique ecosystem. Leave the visitor center behind and head to La Coca Falls, an 85-foot (26-meter) cascade that plunges down a series of rock formations into a shallow pool.

Then head to Yokahú Tower, a 69-foot (21-meter) tall tower offering unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside, plus a range of lush plant life like wild flowers, giant ferns, tropical hardwoods, and tree orchids growing nearby. After your stop at the tower, you’ll receive a transfer back to your San Juan hotel.

Traveler Tips

Other stops along the way were beautiful waterfalls (wear hiking shoes if you want to climb the waterfall), the Yokahu Tower which is an easy climb for a beautiful view of the island.
For those who want a sustained walking trek, this may not be the best tour.

A taste of the rainforest
LAURA_P, Mar 2023
If you want just a taste of the rain forest, with no hiking and no water activities (apart from a short stop by a river) this tour is a good choice. The driver and guide Frankie was very friendly and taught us much about both the rain forest and Portorico.
Must do in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Pictured is our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and enjoyed his insights. Wonderful sights and views. The van wasn’t wonderful.
A very enjoyable tour of El Yunque!!
Daniel_M, Feb 2023
Our guide - Frankie - did a super outstanding job. From the minute he picked us up he was energetic, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. The drive from San Juan to El Yunque was about 45 minutes, and he gave us info about the Park and Puerto Rico all the way to the visitor center, and then led us on a very interesting walk from the parking area to the visitor center itself. He then took us on a Very nice tour of El Yunque , all of the time continuing his talks about the Park. We would definitely take this tour again - especially if Frankie was our guide!!!

A nice trip to the forest.
Michael_W, Feb 2023
My wife and I enjoyed the tour. Frankie our guide was very informative. The tour is not strenuous if that is what you are looking for. We got to see the forest, went to a tower to get a great view of the island and stopped at a spot to walk among the rocks and dip our feet into the cool water.
Good guide but not enough hiking
Billy_N, Feb 2023
Frankie the guide is very funny and informative but the hike is too short. Would be great if it has a couple of more trails
We had fun

Frankie was our guide for this tour and it was something really amazing! His knowledge, humor, and love for El Yunque made this a great experience. We saw some beautiful sights but most meaningful to us was acquiring so much knowledge about Puerto Rico’s valued history. Would recommend this tour to everyone who’s up for an adventure and curious to learn - it was the best way to start off our vacation!
I loved our rain forest family

What a delightful day with our charming guide Frankie. It was an easy and convenient pick up. We learned so much from Frankie’s knowledge and enthusiasm about nature. The group got along great and it made for a fun day. The views were incredible and it was invigorating to take a dip in the springs. Recommend to anyone wanting a taste of forest.
Great half day tour w Frankie!
Yumnah_T, Nov 2022
Frankie was an awesome tour guide! His knowledge makes you appreciate nature and the natural ecosystem so much more. This is not a tiring or grueling tour/hike at all. Very leisurely. You have the option to climb rocks to get to a waterfall and swim at the end.
