Traveler Tips

The trip itself is about 4 to 5 hrs in smoldering hot heat so be prepared bring a fanny pack of a hand towel or something , water is provided of course.
This trip is not a walk in the park but also you won't go over any extreme things.
Highly recommended, the guides are so friendly and easy going, worth it.

Julian, the tour guide, Luis & the Mitcelll were amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly & charismatic. The tour was not rushed or frantic. Julian took his time to explain about the rain forest & our adventure.
Amazing tour!
patricia_G, Mar 2023
Absolutely wonderful experience! Adriana was an amazing tour guide with consistent and plentiful energy! Luis was very helpful and kind on the hike. The scenery and activities were one of a kind. I was nervous at first that a tour would be slow and boring, but they kept a nice pace and a great level of conversation.
Liars and scammers

My friends and I called to book a half day tour that did not look strenuous. When I called they said that tour was sold out but they recommended a different tour which they said was pretty much the same only longer. That night we get a text saying that we agree to climb boulders and this tour is not ok if you are afraid of heights. We immediately called at night and said that we do not want to climb bolders and I said that I was over 60 and afraid of heights. After being kept on hold for about 20 minutes the woman came back and assured me that the tour is ok for me and that it's not strenuous. On the bus, the guide told my friends and I that we would be trekking in mud and are likely to fall. We were told that we would be climbing bolders the size of cars. We were told that some paths were so narrow we had to huddle together and walk sideways.. We were also told that there is a rope swing and cliff dive. NONE of this is what I wanted nor what I signed up for. Furthermore, we were told that when climbing the bolders the person behind you has to hoist you up and you have to do so with the person in front. When we told the guide that this was not appropriate for three seniors, he asked is we read the description. No, we did not, we were just told some things over the phone. We called about a different tour which was sold out. We ended up leaving and not risking our lives. This tour was completely misrepresented and we deserve out $300 back.

Dear Sandra, As my colleague Lynnette kindly explained on the conversation you had the other day, all this negative situation was experienced with Viator/TripAdvisor's Customer Support. We are Bespoke, the local provider. You never spoke to us prior to the day of the tour. The lady who sold this tour over the phone is in charge of selling all the products, from all over the world, found on their website. She neglected to read our description in order to know the Off the Beaten Path tour is not suitable for elderly persons, children under 7, or persons with mobility issues or other serious medical conditions. We have clearly listed these disclaimers on the description, as well as on the confirmation voucher. You were instructed to address this issue and claim this refund directly to them. As you well know, once the guide explained on the bus how the tour was going to be and realized you were not going to be able to do it, we promptly sent a driver to pick you up in Luquillo. Otherwise you would have had to wait for the bus to return several hours later, or incur into a taxi or Uber cost back into San Juan. As a responsible company we made sure all safety requirements and limitations are listed, we responded and provided a solution to your problem right on spot. We are not the liars and scammers. Future travelers, you need to understand Viator is who connects all the travelers into one site, to find the best local experiences. Reviews left are always for the local provider. Please make sure to read the entire description and contact US for any specifics about your tour. We are the ones with the expertise, and is sad to be rated poorly on something we did not do wrong.
Loved traveling with...

Loved traveling with Talia and Mitchell! Prepare for a muddy trek, and the hike is just a short 20 min until you reach point a where the rope swings are. Take all their recommendations/requirements seriously-closed toed shoes!
Fun way to see el yunque
Tasnim_A, Feb 2023
The experience was as advertised. You will get wet! We wore water shoes from the convenience store and appreciated keeping the only sneakers we brought dry. Didn’t have a problem with the rocks or climbing and hiking. It was muddy and fun and the challenging parts were mainly ascending to a beautiful water slide and rocks we could dive into the clear cool water from. Very fun experience we accidentally signed up for and really enjoyed. Felt adventurous and Talia our guide was very fun and friendly. Wish we could have stayed at Luquillo beach for a bit at the end! Really beautiful beach and waters. Food was okay but restaurant was pricey. Kiosks closeby seemed yum. At least there was a bathroom to use. We also made a bathroom stop on the way there and the shop was very cute and had food, drinks, and souvenirs.

Thank you for sharing your experience and insight. We understand each person can have different perspectives of the tour. We are constantly taking our customers feedback in consideration to make sure descriptions are as accurate as possible. Glad to know you had a great time with Talia!
So so
RayP_H, Feb 2023
The hike itself was fun although it would have been nice to know how muddy we would get so we did not ruin good clothes. But we really wish we could have driven ourselves to the trailhead. The lunch afterwards is a mistake. We wanted to get on with our stay in PR and not be held hostage to the slow restaurant and slow eaters.
Trip was good, communication was poor
Katie_S, Feb 2023
The trip itself was fine. It was a little more adventurous than our active family was expecting but we liked it. Communication was quite poor. I searched through many tours options for one that would pick us up at our rental home in Isla Verde, and chose this one since it picked up in Isla Verde. I provided the address upon booking and got a confirmation. The information said we would receive pickup time the day before. As of 4pm I had not heard anything so called them, and they said they do not pick up at private homes and we would have to walk to a hotel 20 minutes away. This is a perfectly fine policy but they had many other opportunities to communicate it to me, and finding out the day before when we had no option to switch to another provider was frustrating. I said they should make that clearer on the website or should have contacted me when I booked and provided the address, and the person was quite rude in response. She did not seem to recognize this as an unexpected inconvenience, and my teenagers do not handle last minute changes of plan well. She did eventually switch our pickup to a closer hotel (a 10 minute walk) so I appreciated that change, but it still made for a much more stressful morning than I was expecting. We got further information about what to pack etc for the tour sent after 10pm which is WAY too late to provide info when we are getting picked up at 7:15 the next morning. The tour guide recommended leaving everything behind on the bus and I asked about water since my family gets quite thirsty hiking. He said there would be a water break partway through and we should not bring water bottles. I thought there would be a natural spring or something that was safe to drink but we never had an official water break. One member of my family said that they saw him tell people to drink from the river at one point during the tour, so maybe that was the water break? We are not comfortable with that and 4 hours hiking in the forest with no water was unpleasant, and if we had known, we would have made sure we had a lot of water ahead of time. It also said light snacks would be provided but we did not receive any. There was bottled water on the bus when we returned to it. There was also mixed info about what to bring on the tour. It said do not bring valuables such as credit cards and cash so some people who came did not have money for lunch, but we stopped for lunch at Luquillo on the way back. (The tour provided at first said we would stop at a restaurant and provided a menu of fairly expensive options, but when people asked about the Luquillo stop in the description he had us vote on what we wanted to do.) We brought wallets etc. and left them on the bus during the tour, along with cell phones, which seemed relatively safe. You can bring a cell phone in a waterproof pouch. Definitely wear sneakers and ideally wool socks. I thought about wearing my Keens but was very glad that I had closed toe shoes in the mud since you are hiking through 6 inches of mud at times (my kids were literally stuck a couple times). Avoid cotton in general. Also, the info said there were no bathrooms before the tour so I thought there were no bathrooms at the forest, but while we were getting back on the bus I noticed some members of our group was missing and had gone off to a bathroom to get changed etc. We did not realize this was an option until the bus was ready to leave so that information was not communicated effectively either. I hope that the company uses my review to improve this experience. I would recommend this tour but there are many different providers and would choose a different one next time.
A day in El junque
Ridhhisha_S, Feb 2023
Loved the trip. Very well prepared tour. Ensured we were all comfortable. Super friendly guides. Only thing I wished was more info on flora & fauna and showing more of it. Very adventurous doing water slides & jumping off cliffs! Loved it.
Perfect

Amazing experience. Super fun and informative. It was a tough hike for people like me who aren’t in the best shape, but so beautiful. Super worth it and would do it again!
Amazing trip! They aren’t...
Aileen_S, Feb 2023
Amazing trip! They aren’t kidding when they say that you will get muddy. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip - even with that, expect to slip into the mud. Overall great experience, Julian, Elias, and Mitchell were great throughout making sure everyone stayed safe. They were very personable and made it a fun experience. 10000% recommended.
not the full trip
Daniel_S, Jan 2023
A short hike to the swimming hole with rock jumps, water slide and rope swing. There were 3-4 other groups there (about 35 people)Really fun but I was expecting more. I paid and signed up for and 8 hour tour as opposed to a 4-5 1/2 day hour tour. Paid the extra fee but only got the partial day. I understand that they have to do groups but they should have refunded my extra payment or at least informed me that it would not be the FULL day tour.
Perfect rainforest/water adventure trip
Joe_W, Jan 2023
The total experience was great and well guided. We walked on a rainforest trail, the guide taljed about the plant life and had a opportunity to enjoy the water through cliff and rope jumps and a natural water slide.
Rain Forest Paradise!!!!
Jessy_O, Jan 2023
We absolutely loved our Yunque Adventure! We had the best tour guide Adriana, she was born to guide you through this tropical Forest paradise! We appreciate people like her! If all of your tour guides are like Adriana well we look forward to many more Tours with Viator.
Bucket list tour!
Matt_S, Jan 2023
Where to begin?!? Adriana, Mitchell & Luis were PHENOMENAL!!! We were given lessons on not only the history of El Yunque, but the flora and significance of different plants in the habitat. We loved how Adriana gave us instructions to safely and environmentally responsibly navigate the trails. ‘Embrace the mud’ was a refrain we heard often and heeded well. We felt SUPER safe at all times!! All three guides gave us meaningful and ‘uplifting’ help, especially on the steep climbs!!! Absolutely amazed how well they knew the trail and the forest!! From climbing, sliding, and jumping, this was THE Bucket List trip we’re looking for!!! Highly recommend all three of these guides!!!
Amazing. Do not miss this adventure if you go to PR
Kathleen_M, Dec 2022
Jaime Elias and Mitchell were friendly informative and patient. Their instructions were clear and made sure we were safe at all times. Highly recommend this experience.
Muddy, wet and so fun!
William_L, Dec 2022
The rain forest tour was muddy, wet and awesome! Jason and Luis were great guides and my husband and our three daughters all had a blast. The water slide was incredible and the cliff jumping was a rush! As advertised, this was not an easy hike. The mud makes things slippery and the rock climbing was rough but very worth it. Highly recommend!
Awesome Rainforest Excursion - Must Do for the Adventurous!
Zinna_S, Oct 2022
Such a fun, memorable time! Make sure to bring hiking or water shoes with good traction. The tour provided great safety gear (helmets and life vests) and our guides, Luis and Adriana, were excellent and always put our safety and enjoyment first. Adriana especially was so enthusiastic and made the hiking fun even when it got a bit tough (be aware there are some challenging climbing and slick rock areas). Very convenient pick-up near our hotel included. Sliding down the volcanic rock waterfall was something I’ll never forget. You can bring your phone in a waterproof case but we preferred unplugging and the guides took great videos and photos throughout that they shared with us.
We had a great day with...

Wonderful day in El Yunque!
Mariah_G, Oct 2022
This was such a fun tour!! Highly highly recommend. I went with my friend, and we had the best day cliff jumping and sliding down waterfalls. The day ends at a beautiful beach where you can get the best mofongo and drinks.
Must do
Eleni_M, Sep 2022
My mom and I did the El Yunque Rainforest and it was amazing and so much fun. Sliding down the rock slide and jumping off cliffs was the best part. Our tour guide Frankie was amazing and so funny we loved him. I recommend this for everyone to do. I would definitely do it again.
