What To Expect

This educational and entertaining walking tour of the Savannah Historic District begins at Warren Square, where you will meet your guide and group.

The Savannah Historic District was the center of colonial government in the 1700s. It was where the first reading of the Declaration of Independence took place in Georgia. Much of the town’s historically significant buildings are located here, in one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the US.

For Savannah, the Civil War began in January of 1860, with the seizing of Fort Pulaski by Georgian troops. It preceded the attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston, often-recognized official start of the war, by three months.

Learn about Savannah’s role in the Civil War, the military strategies of the north and the south and how the locals dealt with the many hardships during this time of tribulation in the south. See the houses of the South’s most famous generals and marvel at the architecture that was present during the Civil War era.

Never have I ever been on a tour that the guide completely held my attention from beginning to end! Brad was fantastic! Meeting place was convenient, price was well worth the experience. I would recommend this for adults….even those not really into history.

It was a really good overall explanation of the history of Savannah and its involvement during the Civil War. Our tour was moved by the provider to an earlier time. So this was not same “civil war” tour as originally booked but more of a blended tour. We did not see the generals’ homes as we’d hoped, but did see the cemetery and the hotel that became the surgical amputation hospital. The story of blood stains still on the floorboards and paranormal sightings was the teens’ favorite part. As a local it gave me new insights on places I’ve seen many times before.

Due to the long walk to see Sherman’s headquarters and due to the heat, your guide took you instead to see the Union map on the wall at Vic’s which is a venue the afternoon tour doesn’t get to see!

We got to take a stroll through historic Savannah and hear the story of General Sherman. We saw things we wouldn’t have if we had tried walking the city alone. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and witty and made the walk very pleasant.
