What To Expect

Begin your half-day trip with pickup from your hotel or cruise port in Sorrento. Meet your guide and travel to the massive archaeological site of Pompeii, where Mt. Vesuvius spewed tons of volcanic ash in AD 79, burying the prosperous city along with 20,000 of its residents.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hop out of your coach and explore the preserved ruins 2,000 years after the eruption. Follow your guide past preserve locations like the Forum, Thermal Baths, and the famous Lupanare brothel. As you go, hear the history behind the ancient city and each of the surviving locations.

Afterward, enjoy time to spend at your leisure. Purchase lunch, shop or people-watch before making the return trip back to Sorrento.

Such a great day out in Pompeii getting to learn about life during that time. Our tour guide Elisa was so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating to all in our group from 3 yrs old to 70. Took us to see many different buildings and landmarks and give great historical information about them all. Would recommend and love to do it again or do the tour then stay on your own after since there is so much more to see than in a guided tour.

Love Pompeii but this tour was not good

The tour included a pickup at our hotel. This was the main reason I booked so we didn’t have to deal with the train. Our driver picked us up right on time. Once we got to the next stop he asked for our passports. Why he wouldn’t do that at our hotel. I have no Idea. We didn’t have them with us and I have no idea why he would need them. I asked the tour company later and they say it states on the sign up that we needed to bring them. I didn’t see it. Then he didn’t ask the other people on the tour for theirs. There was a very severe accident on the road ahead so to no fault of the driver we were definitely about 45 min late. He had what could only be called a road rage moment and went down the wrong way of a two way street. Scaring everyone on the tour. It was completely unnecessary. By the time we arrived we had missed the tour time and had to wait another 25 min to get the tour. It was hard to tell if our driver was connected to our tour. Our guide did a very nice job. But he told our group and the other people on our tour that they could at the end of the tour stay til 5pm. This was a half day tour so we definitely hadn’t planned on staying late. Also how do you get 3 sets of strangers to decide when they want to leave. One group stayed and the other 2 left. The driver did an excellent job driving us back. So it may have just been a one time thing. But the tour definitely felt like a hodge podge that was confusing to everyone on the tour. Pompeii is great but I truly can’t recommend this version of Pompeii.

Susie was a very informative tour guide. It was a bit fast paced but very interesting. Pompeii is a must see, and the bus transfers to and from Sorrento worked very well, though we had to walk a short ways from our hotel to meet the shuttle.

The trip was absolutely beautiful and educational. The guide was also great. The booking was meant to include hotel pick up but was told the night before they didn’t collect from our hotel ( even though I specifically asked when booking) therefore costed €250 more for the taxi

The tour felt a little disorganized in the beginning because there is a separate tour driver who handed us over to one guide who ultimately brought us to the Pompeii tour guide Maria. However, once we started the tour at Pompeii, it was great. With limited time to learn a little about Pompeii and visit the site, this was a wonderful half day tour. Maria is a great guide and made everything very interesting!

Dear Sirs the tour includes transports, guide and ticket, we don't think is expensive :-) Anyway you can leave the group at the end of the visit and stay longer inside Pompeii but you lose your return transfer to Sorrento of course. Regards

Pompeii had been a bucket list item for many years and was finally fulfilled by this excellent guided tour. On arrival and departure, it all seemed a little chaotic, but there was a clear method in the madness and all was fine. Pickup from my hotel in Sorrento was perfect. After a little while on the tour you begin to realize just what an enormous site Pompeii is and on this tour we only saw a fraction of what was on offer, but what we saw was amazing. The streets are clearly laid out and very long. Cast your mind back and you can imagine how busy and vibrant it must have been in those days long ago. We did the tour in early October and it was perfect. There is very little cover from the sun, so doing the tour in the summer months, would probably be uncomfortable for many.

Excellent tour guide Maria in Pompeii. The guided tour was excellent Maria was very knowledgeable and witty. Our driver was polite and courteous. The only downside was the very uncomfortable mini bus we were cramped in like sardines. No leg room whatsoever. I’m only 5’4” and struggled to fit my legs in the space never mind my six foot hubby. Had we not booked another trip I. A very spacious mini bus for the next day we would have thought this was the norm

It was worth it to walk through the city ruins and our guide was very knowledgeable. The audio devices we were given need to be upgraded. The sound on them was not good and there was a lot of white noise.

Ensure you wear comfortable shoes, old Roman roads and cobbles to walk over. Not really suitable for wheelchair users. My husband had to help carry a wheelchair over cobbles to flatter ground. But an amazing place to see, learning how they used to live.

The pick up was convenient and easy. Our Pompeii guide, Maria, was excellent. A spirited storyteller who explained in detail what life was like in AD 70. The pizza lunch was nice. The hike at Vesuvius was too inclined for my 75 yr old dad, so he waited for me at the cafe while I hiked to the top. Overall, a fantastic day. I highly recommend.
