The train was not airconditioned but this was not problem at 23C in late Oct but it would be uncomfortable in mid summer with many more tourists.

We had to stand, but if you get there a little earlier, you are much more likely to find a seat, since the train sits there for a while before leaving.

While it was great to have the train trip planned and paid for the actual tour was the problem. We were 4 seniors, three of us using walking sticks as aids. The tour moved too quickly - we could not keep up and while we heard the comments fine when we finally got to the talked about point the group had moved on. The leader did not hold an identifying stick or flag and as he was quite short a couple of times we lost him. I felt as if I spent the tour looking at the ground, trying not to miss my footing. At the end we wished to stay on site a little longer but needed a break first - no mention was made of the Pizzaria and, in fact, he seemed to only want us the go to the place near the train station.

Made a train journey from Sorrento to Pompeii with our guide Gino. This fella was fantastic from start to finish. He's worked as part of the team excavating Pompeii, so he really knows his stuff! A very funny and knowledgeable guy. We spent a couple of hours on the tour. He took us to most memorable parts of the site. His commentary gave us a real insight into how the town was before the eruption and afterwards. This trip was worth the money and we had a great day exploring the site. Go visit!!!!

We had a great time visiting Pompeii with this tour. The tour guide was very well-informed, interesting to listen to, and funny at times, which made the experience a fun one! We thought it was the perfect amount of time to keep our attention. Once the tour is over, you can stay and explore on your own if you wish, as you can take the train whenever you want with the tickets provided at the start of the tour.

Easy to find meeting point at Sorrento train station and agent very helpful. Guide Gino very informative, helpful and friendly. Only negative is that there was a very steep hill at start of tour which was a little fast to get up but Gino was waiting at the top.

The problem with this tour is that it says it's only 2 hours, but actually it's 6 hours!! We had made other plans in the afternoon and had to leave in the middle of this tour.

Dear Cathy_Z, 2 hours is the guided tour in Pompei, but of course you need to add the time for transportation which is normally 45 minutes from Sorrento to Pompeii and another 45 minutes from Pompeii to Sorrento.
