What To Expect

Meet your group and guide at 100 S. Plaza Drive at the gazebo a little before 11am for your 1-hour walking tour of historical Taos. Most tours run right at 11am, but other times are available if requested at the time of booking. Because most of this tour is on sidewalks, it’s wheelchair accessible.

Follow your guide around the town as you pass by historical areas. Listen to stories about people of the past as you walk about half a mile around the town. Some of the famous historical figures your guide tells you about include Kit Carson, Padre Martinez, Don Juan de Onate, Long John Dunn, Doc Martin, and others.

Along the way, gain a better understanding for Taos' unique history, and what makes the town the way it is today. Your walk finishes back at the gazebo around 12pm, and you can decide what’s next for the day.

I was here and the guide was not. he told me later he was at the doctors in Santa Fe and must have been a mix-up with Viator but would get me a refund.
Brief but good

The tour was a bit brief. I wish we saw more. I really enjoyed what we saw. I wanted more culture and history, less art. Sam was pleasant and engaging!

Sam was an excellent tour guide! He was knowledgeable and also funny/tactful when sharing provocative information. If we had not taken the tour, we would not have known much of the history of Taos. Definitely would recommend to others.

Our guide shared local color and character stories. That added so much to the experience. And he was, of course, able to recommend other things to see, do and eat!

Disapponted in Taos

There does not seem much to see at all in Taos. The guide was knowledgeable about the history of the area, but we stood and listened a good portion of the time. There were few stops or places to see. On our own, we toured the Kit Carson Museum, which was the most worthwhile place to visit in the town.
Response from Host, Aug 2019
Hi Rose, We're disappointed you didn't enjoy Taos, or our 8-stop, one-hour walking tour during your visit a couple of months ago. We received a 5-star glowing review from the other party on your tour, which is perplexing. Taos is a fascinating place to explore and as I mentioned during our phone call, we'd be happy to give you a tour of the area instead of just the downtown next time you're visiting. Happy Travels! Tour of Taos with Anita
Melinda_G, Oct 2018
Four of us were visiting Taos again. We had been there many times, but had never done a tour. We signed up for the Historic Downtown Walking Tour to find out if we had missed anything and discovered we had missed a lot! Anita was our guide. She was engaging and fun, told us interesting facts and gave us information about what happened in the past in Taos -- bringing it all to life with her engaging manner. Highly recommend the tour.

Due to our visit in October, on a rainy day during off season, we ended up with a private tour. We learned about the history of Taos and walked within a few blocks of the town square. It was informative and interesting and have us a general historical understanding of the city. We felt that it was well worth the reasonable price for this overview of the area.

-Taos Historic Downtown Walking Tour Our guide was Lisa. She is amazing very knowledgeable about the history of Taos, and New Mexico in general. We enjoyed learning about Taos. We also enjoyed visiting the St Francis de Asis Church, where we even got to see Aztec dancers celebrating a special ceremony. We had a great time and we loved all the places where she took us, especially, The Rio Grande Gorge, for which we will always have a special place in our hearts because WE GOT ENGAGED THERE! We definitely recommend Turquoise Tours. If you want a great tour with knowledgeable guides at a great price, definitely book this tour. Thank you Turquoise Tours! This was an unforgettable trip and we will definitely be back :
