What To Expect

Eat and shop like a Japanese local during this immersive, food-themed trip inside Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji Market. If you want to get a sense of Japanese culinary culture, you couldn’t possibly start at a better place.

Meet up with your guide just outside the market’s main gate, in the morning. As you navigate your way through this labyrinth of all things seafood, learn from your guide about the market’s history and why many Japan’s top chefs visit here daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients. You never know what you might find as you stroll past the outer stalls of this amazing food center. You might see piles of sea urchin (uni) stacked neatly in boxes, watch as vendors carve massive Bluefin tuna or spot pufferfish floating in tanks.

With all this walking, you’re sure to work up an appetite. Luckily, you sample a tasty assortment of Japanese foodstuffs like sushi, Japanese-style omelets, Japanese tea, sake, fried fish cakes, and fresh oysters to help fuel your exploration.

Traveler Tips

Wear comfortable shoes since you do a lot of walking.
It's expensive, but once you factor in all the food you get, it's really quite reasonable.
I recommend however, wearing waterproof boots/shoes in the inner fish market area.

Could have done on own.
Lee_A, Sep 2023
The tour was OK, but we probably could’ve done this on our own. While our guide, Kei, was very nice and knowledgeable, there wasn’t that much additional information that we got from it versus just walking up and down the halls of the fishmarket by ourselves. Three hours is definitely too long for this tour… At least the way that we had the tour. For the last half of it, it appeared as if we were trying to find something to do or somewhere to go. Just walking aimlessly. I will say that the sashimi that our guide got for us was tremendous… And lunch was nice too. I wish we would’ve learned more about sushi at the sushi restaurant. We showed up, had our sushi, and the tour is over. Lunch could’ve been more of an experience as well.
The tour was a great experiance

Great foodie tour

Hiroshi (aka Robert) was amazing! So much knowledge not only about the fish market, but all of Tokyo. There is so much food on this tour… go hungry!
Fascinating and fun!

Our guide Alex was amazing. So knowledgeable, fun and considerate to everyone’s needs. We learned a lot about the Japanese traditions and little tips on their language, eating what to and not to do’s. The food was fabulous and abundant. Thank you for a memorable night.
Yuko is the best

Super fun and interesting market tour
Anthony_G, Aug 2023
This tour was so much fun! We learned about the history of the market and tasted many varieties of local cuisine. Lilly was a super tour guide! She was very knowledgeable of the area and knew the best places to eat.
Great

Great tour of the outer market. Definitely worth it if you are looking for an introduction to the area and the market. The sushi lunch at the end was surprising and fantastic.
Fantastic tour with Taka
Melanie_G, Aug 2023
Our guide, Taka, was fantastic - very friendly, knowledgeable and great company. We really enjoyed this tour - great sights and lots of tasting opportunities. A real highlight of our trip!
Excellent tour guide, tour, and food
Grace_R, Aug 2023
An amazing experience worth every penny of the cost. We would suggest anyone visiting Tokyo who wants to learn more about food and culture and a bit of history to do this tour. You definitely spend time on your feet but Taka is an incredible guide who balanced walking standing sitting and eating over the 3ish hours of this tour. We ate enough to not need lunch and I'm glad we skipped breakfast. I highly recommend you skip breakfast too if you do this tour :). Thank you Taka - we had an amazing time!!!
Great tour!
Samantha_L, Aug 2023
We had a great time on this tour! Seiji was very knowledgeable and friendly. A great mix of history and current local knowledge. The sushi lunch at the end was also delicious.
Tak is amazing!
Briana_E, Aug 2023
We had such a wonderful time with Tak!! He’s attentive, fun and so informative. We got to try so many types of food and explore a temple in addition to the market.
Our favourite tour in Japan
Katharine_T, Aug 2023
We had a wonderful tour with Taka, it was extremely hot and he made accommodations for us, making sure we were hydrated and rested along the route. We visited two different temples along the way and the information shared by Taka was very interesting. The food we tried was varied and he asked us if there was anywhere else he could direct us to and even took us back to the market to try some Wagyu beef. There were six of us on the day and this tour turned out to be the best excursion of our trip to Japan so I would highly recommend.
The best way to do Tsukiji
aksahuja, Aug 2023
You cannot do Tokyo without seeing the Tsukiji fish market and you can’t do the fish market well without this tour !! The tour itself was well planned at a smooth pace but our host Laila was incredible as she took great care of individual preferences , introduced us to a variety of shops and amazing snacks and then took us for a lovely sushi lunch !! All this was accompanied by a detailed explanataion in two shrines as well!! Highly recommended !!
Great tour with family and friends!
Carolyn_W, Aug 2023
This was a terrific tour and Kay was an excellent guide. She let us wander a bit and pointed out good food that wasn't part of the paid experience so we could eat to our hearts content. There was plenty of food also included but it was fun to snack on other treats. We asked for a couple of specialty items and she took us to the shops that specialized in those. We'd previously done a similar tour years ago when the inner market was still here and I found this one to be just as enjoyable.
Do not really need a guided tour at the fish market
Boris_N, Jul 2023
I have taken this tour twice before during business trips a number of years ago and have to say that it has gone way downhill since then. While our guide was very nice, this tour has become little more than walking through the fish market behind your guide, while stopping at a few shops. You might as well just go to the fish market yourself and walk around on your own and at your own pace. Having the guide this time added nothing new or unique that we would not have been able to do ourselves, but did cost me almost $400 for a family of four.
Fun, tasty, tour!
DA_W, Jul 2023
Great, tasty, tour! Our guide Naoko was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The behind the scenes tour of the omelette factory was great fun with a sushi finish!
A Great Experience!

Our tour guide Sayo gave us an exceptional tour of Tsukiji Market introducing us to a variety of food samplings. The sushi at the end was phenomenal and she was super patient in accommodating our shopping interests everytime we passed by an interesting vendor.
We had an excellent tour...
greetramaut, Jul 2023
We had an excellent tour with Yuko who was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of insights in the history, religion, (food) culture.. She went out of her way to give us an unforgettable experience.
Great Food. Great Guide.
Elizabeth_F, Jul 2023
Seiji, our guide, led is through the myriad stalls of the fish market, explaining the most exotic foods with great samplings. It was a wonderful way to my Tokyo journey. In the end, we had a wonderful sushi lunch. Seiji was such a lovely man.
