Traveler Tips

Public transit is the least expensive way to get to the bus terminal.
Highly recommended - both Rhine Falls and Stein-am-Rhein are undoubtedly worth seeing!
Highly recommend a trip to see the Rhine Falls and in particular taking the optional boat cruise which takes you close to the falls.

Take the train.
Antonio_P, Mar 2023
It was okay. The four stars is for the waterfall. Take a train and you will get the same experience and it will be cheaper. Because it was winter, Stein am Rhein was mostly closed. So take this tour between April and Sept. But again, take a train and save some money.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Dear Antonio, Thank you very much for joining our Rhine Falls & Stein am Rhein tour and rating your experience. We are very sorry to hear that you felt our tour was not worth the money. While it is of course possible to travel to the Rhine Falls individually by public transport, many guests appreciate having a tour guide who serves as facilitator and as a direct contact person in case of any occurring questions. Also, listening to the personal anecdotes of the tour guide and historical information of Switzerland, is the main reason why our guests opt for a guided tour instead of an individual visit. Stein am Rhein is a small but beautiful village which we include in the itinerary because it gives our guests the chance to visit a typical and well-conserved Swiss town. It is a destination that sustains itself mostly from tourism. For this reason, some shops may close during winter due to the low volume of visitors. Nevertheless, we are sorry to hear that this stop didn’t meet your expectations. We hope that you still enjoyed a wonderful stay in Zurich and that you will give us a second chance to convince you of our great price-performance ratio during your next visit. Best regards, Ambika from Best of Switzerland Tours
Excellent

The great commentary from our guide Daniel. He gave great detail of life in Switzerland from long ago to the present day
Magnificent tour of the best of Switzerland’s natural beauty and history
Anthony_P, Feb 2023
This is a great half day tour from Zurich. Rhine Falls is just magnificent. The views from the various viewing platforms is just breathtaking. It is then just a short drive through the beautiful countryside to the Medieval village of Stein am Rhein. A picturesque quaint village with history everywhere you turn. From the medieval houses with their painted facades, to the beauty of the main street of the old town, it is a must see town. Our guide Thomas was very knowledgeable and presented us with so much information in an easily understandable and enjoyable way, and our driver was excellent.
Amazing views of water falls!!!

Lovely tour guide - Patrick. Waterfall is stunning! Stein am Rhein was a lovely village but mostly shut due to winter so we had too long there. I do not blame tour though as they didn't expect that.
Our first day in Zurich!

The Rhein Falls were a very pretty sight. The little town of Stein am Rhein was totally worth exploring. We had a delicious raclette burger from a food truck there. The guide (Andy) was very informative and the ride on the van was comfortable.

The tour guide was excellent and shared so many cool stories on the way. Rheinfall was spectacular even though the weather wasn’t great.
Great half day tour

Loved the Falls, and loved the little village. We were lucky to do this at this time of year as all the Christmas markets had started so it made it more special.
The village on the Rhine river was breathtaking!

The village on the Rhine river was breathtaking! My favorite part of the trip. Only wish we could’ve stayed longer than the hour we were allotted.
Beautiful experience
Sourik_D, Nov 2022
The trip was pretty nice and compact. The view at Rhine Falls was absolutely amazing and is a must visit.
Could have taken the train…
Diana_H, Oct 2022
Seeing the falls and walking around the small town were the highlight of this tour. Your guide was not the nicest…very uptight, short with passengers, actually yelled at a passenger. Who knows maybe she decided not to do the boat ride because she decided it was too rocky for her! Not enough historical or countryside commentary information was given. She was speaking more about her own personal experiences a lot of dead air…many she was having a bad day. Wish we had a bit more time to walk around the town. Additionally noticed that the boat ride charged to us was 5 francs more than the actual price… NOT COOL!
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Diana, Thank you very much for joining our afternoon excursion to the Rhine Falls & Stein am Rhein and for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that the service provided by your tour guide did not meet your expectations. Many guests appreciate our tour guides sharing personal anecdotes to learn about life in Switzerland from the perspective of a local. However, we totally agree that the historical background information should not be neglected and will be happy to share your feedback with your tour guide to help her improve her storytelling. The Rhine Falls can be accessed from both the south shore and the north shore. The boat ride for CHF 5.- is only a transfer between the two shores, while we offer an 15-minute boat ride exclusively for our groups for CHF 10.- per adult (April – October). We hope that you will still keep your visit to the Rhine Falls & Stein am Rhein in good memory and would be delighted to convince you of our high quality standards during your next visit! Best regards, Amanda from Best of Switzerland Tours
Enjoyable
Kathleen_P, Oct 2022
Loved the falls and the town. Too short of time to enjoy Stein am Rhein. Good job of herding people where they should be.
Verena was our tour guide.
Siddharth_S, Oct 2022
Verana was our tour guide and she was such a delight to explain the history of the rhinefalls and stien am Rhine town. As typical of a Swiss, she was on time and very punctual. Highly recommended.
October at the Falls - 20 degree C Day

I would highly recommend...
Karen_S, Oct 2022
I would highly recommend this trip. Our guide was exceptional, the scenery along the ride was beautiful and the falls and village were breathtaking.
This professional run tour is great value for money
Dale_C, Oct 2022
The falls are not the highest but are a great sight especially with the included boat trip going as close as possible to the falling water. Stein an Rhein is a very picturesque village with many decorated houses ,well worth visiting.
Pretty, but not too impressive
Hayley_S, Oct 2022
I really expected the largest waterfall in Europe to be more impressive, but overall the trip was worth it. After finding out I could have taken the train from Zurich in my own every 30 min, I would do that the next time.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Dear Hayley, Thank you very much for joining our afternoon excursions to the Rhine Falls and Stein am Rhein! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit and would have loved to know how we could have improved our tour. While it is also possible to visit the two destinations individually by train (return tickets from CHF 55.60 per adult), many guests appreciate our tour as a convenient way to reach the Rhine Falls & Stein am Rhein. The personal anecdotes and historical information shared by our tour guides are an additional reason for guests to choose our tours over an individual visit. We are sorry to hear that you felt that the tour was not worth your money and hope to convince you of our excellent price-performance ratio during your next visit!
